We live in Corpus Christi and often make the trip out to Port A just to eat at La Playa (not to be confused with the La Playa restaurants in Corpus, which are not related in any way). The place is small, and we almost always have to wait for a table, but it's worth it!
Although they do offer some of the usual Tex-Mex fare, the stars of the menu are the more unique dishes. My personal favorite is the Island Pepper, their take on a chile relleno. It is a poblano pepper, stuffed with white cheese, wrapped in a flank steak, and grilled. Delicious! Other favorites include the seafood enchiladas, fish tacos, ceviche, and the guacamole made tableside. They also have daily specials, usually a fresh seafood dish.
They have a huge tequila selection. So huge, in fact, that the tequila has its own menu. They also have a decent beer selection.
The wait staff is always friendly and helfpul. We've never had a bad experience.
Tip: If the meal you choose comes with the refried beans and Spanish rice, request they substitute in the black beans and fiesta rice; they are much more tasty!
