“Good, but average.”

First place we ate in Port A. Had the Po' Boy. It was good, but nothing too special. My girlfriend had the day's special, lemon chicken. She said it was good and a good value as the special.

“Average”
Reviewed March 19, 2013

Ate dinner here. Got the po' boys, and they were average. Bread was nice and squishy, fish was fine, but the whole sandwich had no flavor. Put their tartar sauce on it, no flavor there, either. Finally went with tabasco to kick it up a bit, and that helped. Hey, at least it wasn't over salted like many restaurants! I would come here again, but maybe for breakfast. That menu looked fabulous!!

“Good, simple seafood.”
Reviewed March 15, 2013 via mobile

We started with calimari and it was better than average. Very meaty, but more strips than the normal circles and legs portions. More like eating fried clams, but not as fishy. We devoured it quickly! I got the fried shrimp special that had 6 shrimp, 2 hush puppies and a choice of sides. The shrimp had a great breading and weren't greasy. The hush puppies were yummy! I got a salad which was fine and green beans. My daughter got the fried fish basket and it was overly generous! It had the same coating as the shrimp and was equally delicious. My husband got a mixed platter and it was good as well. My son had fried shrimp as well and it was all delicious. The service was fantastic and super friendly! It is an extremely casual place with simple food made well. Not too expensive either! The sandcastle out front is great as well!

“great fried shrimp”
Reviewed March 13, 2013

Lots of places on Port A claim to have the best fried shrimp. Avery's actually does have the
best fried shrimp. Reasonable prices, great lunch specials. And everyone loves the sandcastle
out front!

“Just OK - nothing special”
Reviewed March 6, 2013

Our first night as"winter Texans" we chose Avery's for dinner on local recommendations. We should have guessed as it was 5:30 and no cars in the lot. Anyway, we had the six shrimp special and seafood platter. It was nothing to write home about....just average. The waitress spent more time talking to the next customers who arrived after we got our food and ignored us. The atmosphere was down home- folksy with not much class. I guess I just expected better food and atmosphere.
