“Great breakfast spot”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 20, 2012

This place is really small ... maybe 6, possibly 7 tables total. We ate here for breakfast several times and the same locals were always there which is a good sign. The pancakes, eggs, omelets were great. Bacon was overdone though. Lunch menu looked very good but we didn't get a chance to try it. Not open for dinner. This will be our go-to breakfast spot from now on in Port A.

“Best breakfast on the island”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 25, 2012

Frankie's has the best breakfast on the island, hands down. She is an AMAZING cook. It doesn't matter what you order, it will be excellent. Breakfast tacos, blueberry pancakes, biscuits and gravy, grits, eggs and bacon, burgers, chicken fried steak...everything has always been excellent.

The food is very reasonably priced, breakfast for two with coffee is about $10. Lunch for two is about $15.

Yes, it's a small place and yes, you might have to wait awhile, but it's worth it. Frankie, Joe and Joanie are some of the best people I've ever met and they will take good care of you.

“We'll be back!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 15, 2011

Hubby had the blueberry pancakes and omelet and he loved them. I had the regular pancakes and they were tasty. The only draw back was overcooked bacon after asking for soft bacon. You must have patience on your visit, as everyone else has stated there is only one cook. It is a very small place and does not offer much in terms of ambiance. But the food and welcoming staff overcome that shortfall. Our visit was good enough that we will return on next trip.

“Home cooking better than home cooking”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 28, 2011

Dumpy looking dive that might scare you away at first glance. Small place that allows for all orders to be handled individually. Only six(6) tables. Be prepared to wait. Trust me, it's worth it. Even after you're seated and have ordered expect to wait. Remember...You're on Island Time! We spent two hours there. Worth every minute. Got a chance to talk to the most beautiful girl in South Texas...my wife. She's a true southern girl and ordered grits as a side with her order. Perfectly cooked as were her bisquits and gravy meal; no canned gravy. I got the bacon and eggs with blueberry pancakes. Don't think I've ever eaten pancakes with real blueberrys in them. So many blueberreys that I felt like I was eating a cobbler. They were so light and fluffy, at least 1/2 inch thick AND they covered an entire dinner plate. A true meal unto themselves.

Lunch featured that traditional southern favorite...chicken and dumplings. Wasn't quite ready when we left so I placed a to go order. Came back an hour later (we stayed a block away at the Tarpon Inn) Got two orders as well as banana pudding and a carrot cake muffin. I think the most beautiful girl in south Texas is in love with me again after 37 years.

Food was better than the picture with a monkey; but that's another story.
