Good for: Kids, Families with children
Dining options: Lunch, Dinner, Reservations, Seating, Takeout, Waitstaff
Description: A Texas Steakhouse and Diner since 1948, with everything from scratch: Pies, Rolls, Salad Dressings and we cut our own (never Frozen) aged beef steaks from primal cuts and grind our choice beef for the juicy hamburgers. Slow down for a taste of what food used to taste like before the chain stores made it all the same. We are BYOB if you care for an adult beverage, we have wine glasses and bottle openers, coolers are welcome or we can put your beer in a bucket on ice. The setting is informal, but if you come in all dressed up, we'll know you must of had a good reason not to be comfortable. Get the city in your rear view mirror and come to Ponder where you can still see the stars at night.

“Still Good!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 9, 2013 via mobile

First visit was 50 years ago and things havn't changed except for added back room. I suggest you try the chopped steak. Tell them to put the onions inside. Stick to excellent French fries. This meal was identical to meals served in 1960-1965 when I Was a student at North Texas.

“Not Worth It”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 4, 2013

First visit to Ranchman’s Café, my first hint should have been everyone I saw was having the Chicken Fried Steak. We decided to try the 12oz. T-Bone and Rib Steak with baked potato and dinner salad. The potato and salad were very good, the steaks may have been some of the leftover from 1948 when they first opened, both were super thin, like a breakfast steak, we requested Medium Rare and received Medium and TOUGH. I may go back to try the Chicken Fried Steak, but nothing else.

“Girl's Trip”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 20, 2012

Wow! This was like going back in time. This place reminded me of a restaurant I ate in frequently as a child. We stopped by on our way home from a 'girl's trip' with my sisters. Had chicken fried steak Half Portion plate. It was a full portion size. Chicken fried steak with 3 vegetables. Delicious. My sister had it with homemade french fries. Delicious. Split homemade coconut pie. Delicious. Will go back.

“A great steak in a nostalgic location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 28, 2012

Been going here for many years when I pass through Ponder. Always a great steak and the place has not changed much over the years. Has lots of history to it and the walls are papered with many celebrities that have stopped in as well.

“We liked the food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 26, 2012

Read the negative reviews but we dined with friends from the area and were very pleased with the food. Yes, it is kind of a hole-in-the-wall place, but that just means character. The chicken fried steak was awesome, as was the burger. The coconut creme pie was to-die-for. Server was very friendly and attentive.

Overall we were very please and satisfied. Would come back.
