“Great brisket, meaty ribs, yummy sausage”

Lockhart Smokehouse
Ranked #11 of 916 Restaurants in Plano
Certificate of Excellence
Cuisines: Barbecue
Description: Imagine, the great BBQ joints of Lockhart, Texas just a short trip from anywhere in the DFW area. Lockhart Smokehouse fires up great smoked meat classics that make Lockhart the Barbecue capital of Texas. Great “cue” runs in the blood. One partner is the granddaughter of the legendary Edgar “Smitty” Schmidt, who ran Kreuz Market for over 40 years in Lockhart Texas. Lockhart Smokehouse is the only place in the DFW area you can get Kreuz Market Sausage. And just like the original, the meat is served on butcher paper. The brisket, sausage, ribs and other meats are smoked low and slow over Texas post oak. Updated versions of classic southern sides created by Executive Chef Tim McLaughlin and some Schmidt family favorites round out the menu.

We took brisket, sausage, and 4 ribs back to our hotel along with sauce. Loved them all. We do not recommend the potato salad, cole slaw, or beans. The line was not that long, maybe a 10 minute wait.

This was a fun experience. We learned the difference between a BBQ place and a smokehouse. You order your meat preference by the pound. They wrap it in butcher paper and hand it to you along with a limited selection of sides that come in styrofoam cups. There is a bar for drinks and tv's to watch sports. Food is good and there is a cut of brisket I had never heard of before which was delicious----"clod"??? Anyway, you can order your brisket "dry" or "moist" which dictates which side they lop it off of depending upon the degree of fat involved. Go early as they run out of things.

We went for a late lunch (2:00) on a Saturday. Was our first time there but heard good things via the Dallas Morning News so decided to give it a try. Was surprised to see a line of people from the front door all the way to the order counter! Five minutes in line we were told that the brisket was almost gone. What??? Didn't realize that at this place, once the meat is gone...it's gone for the day. They still had some when we reached the counter but we both opted for chicken. I couldn't believe how good the chicken tasted. Just fell off the bone. Had sides of beans, cold slaw and potato salad. All where tasty. Especially the potato salad. Meat is wrapped in butcher paper and flat ware is plastic, so don't except anything fancy...no plates here. Beer is cold and staff is friendly. Will be back for sure. Hope I can save room for desert next time. Looked really good!

First off....this place advertises that you can try the meat before you buy it....well think again. i went in yesterday and asked to taste the moist brisket to see if i liked it more than the lean. The butcher and the cahsier both looked at me like i was crazy. I then proceeded to get the Moist brisket and again asked to taste it. The nasty attitude cashier gave me a piece of my own brisket out of the just cut order i place. He rang me up before giving me a piece and again looked at me like id asked for something out of the ordinaire. The sausage here is waaaaay too expensive...$5 for one link, YEA RIGHT!!! in Lockhart texas each of the bbq places sell the links for $2.5 each...How do i know....I MADE THE TRIP! this place is a KNOCK OFF of the real!

I am very selective with BBQ. They opened at 6pm and serve until it's gone. No plates at this place. It's rustic. Had the pork chop and ribs. Chop was very moist. Could have used more smoke. Ribs were below average, dry and over cooked. Not bad. Would go back.
