“Great afternoon stroll”

Historic Downtown Plano

The shops along this historic street offer a lazy afternoon activity for those visiting the area. There is a small park gazebo and fountain with an old traincar on display adjoining the street shopping experience. There is a Dallas Redline metro stop about 1/2 block away so one can travel from downtown Dallas to this location. There are antique shops and a smoke shop. Options for eating include burgers, coffee shop/deli and an Irish Pub. The complete experience offers about 10 shops and takes about 2-3 hours if you include a stroll through the park and a small meal or stop at the coffee shop.

Many of the stores that used to provide unique shopping opportunities have closed. Some restaurants have opened, which is good, but the best time for Downtown Plano is at Christmas. The Friday, a week after Thanksgiving is the time for the Dickens Christmas celebration although there is not much Dickens in the celebration. Local dance schools, churches, and musical ensembles perform. There are food booths, a fire truck, Santa, and a Christmas tree lighting. Of course the stores have Christmas gifts and trinkets to sell and it is a very family, festive affair that initiates the Christmas season with jollity.

I don't have a reason to go downtown at any other time. Perhaps the people who live in the nearby apartments and ride the Dart keep it functioning. There are some art galleries that lend a nice touch.

This is a quaint little stroll, but could be worth it. 10 years ago we thought that this place was going to grow, but it now looks like it is shrinking.

I love the Vic! Great sandwiches and overall menu with local and craft brews on tap. Try the blue cheese fries and a club sand-o...can't go wrong.

When I was looking for something to see during some spare time, I saw this place in a guide and thought that this could be a place to visit. However, when I was supposed to be there, I had to look at the map several times since I was not able to find anything interesting, I was convinced that I was at the wrong place. But it turned out to be the right one, but as mentioned there wasn't really any real attraction that made the visit worthwhile.
