I have been purchasing masa for Christmas tamales at Aparicios for the last several years. The masa I purchased yesterday was hard as a rock. I took it home and attempted to prepare it for tamales. However, I was unable to break it down as a result of its rock hard and dry consistency. I was forced to throw it away. We are now left without our traditional homemade tamales for the holidays. I called Aparicios and they suggested adding water to masa to "fix it." In my 30 plus years of making tamales, I have never had to "add water."
