I've found you never know what you're going to get with La Quinta. That said. this is a very nice newer hotel with a great staff. Their shuttle wasn't available one of the nights of my stay so they called and paid for a cab to take me to the DART station. Rooms are modern and spacious. The fitness center leaves a bit to be desired.
Everything was very clean and nice. Even though there was a large group of young teenage girls running up and down the hall it was very quiet in our room. Having to be at the medical complex very early the next morning this location could not be more convienent. My only complaint would be that it was very hot in the hallway, but that didn't matter because it was plenty cool in our room.
My husband and I were in the Dallas area to visit family and chose to try the La Quinta in West Plano, which is a nice part of Plano. The people who worked the front desk were friendly and helpful. The hotel has been nicely updated, including the rooms.
The night we checked in we arrived at the hotel a little before 10:00 p.m. and a little tired from our trip. We opened the door to our room and found it was dirty. We trekked back downstairs and were reassigned to a different room and found that one clean.
We had a quiet stay until Thursday. That afternoon quite a lot of sports groups arrived and a church youth group. More sports groups checked in on Friday. It was as if someone flipped a switch on the amount of noise in the hallways. There seemed to be very little to no adult supervision of the groups which ranged in age from young children to teens. There were children playing kickball the length of the hallway, sprinting back and forth in the hallways, shouting back and forth to each other in the hallways, trash and food left in the hallways. The sport groups stayed from Thursday to Sunday.
There was a sign on the front desk stating this time of year is the "Annual Cricket Convention," with cute little pictures of Jiminy Cricket. The sign said the crickets may be a "bother" and "noisy," but they are really quite harmless. Yes, crickets are harmless, but they sure aren't cute when they invaded our room on the 4th floor. Each night we had at least 3 crickets hopping around as we were getting ready for bed. They really liked getting inside our shoes in the closet, climbing up the side of the bed and hanging out in the bathroom. The final straw was on Wednesday night when I awoke to use the bathroom and found I was sharing my pillow with a cricket. Thursday we purchased a bottle of bug spray and fumigated our room. We still found crickets in our room but they were dead crickets, and there were no more sharing our bed with us.
While we were at the La Quinta one of the 2 elevators broke; the only washing machine in the hotel broke (Friday) and an ice machine in the hallway broke.
We chose that hotel for its location and the good price we got on our room. In the future we won't be staying there and we will limit our stays in cheaper hotels to Sunday-Wednesdays (we have run into sports groups on the weekends in the past at other hotels). A bargain just isn't worth it when my sleep is interrupted by running in the hallways, shouting and, last but not least, waking up to a cricket staring me in my face.
