“Great Ambience, Food..............Not So Much!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 7, 2013

We received excellent service from Jarrah, wine and beer was good. Live music was amazing, sitting out on the patio on a Friday night as the sun went down was lovely. Very attentive staff, can't say enough about that. We ordered the crab cakes, they were cold and had no flavor. (Jarrah, please serve appetizer plates with appetizers). I ordered the meatloaf, it was burned and dry, also cold with this horrid barbecque sauce smothered on top. Mashed potaoes were ok, green beens were WAY overcooked. Hubby ordered hamburger, fries were EXCELLENT but burger was overdone and dry (maybe give the customer a choice of how they want it cooked)? Best part (besides the wine) was the dessert. Creme Brulee. It was phenomenal and I'm not a sweets person. Portions are very generous. We will go back maybe just for happy hour which looks fantastic, they are also starting Sunday Brunch. For a 100.00 tab, the food just wasn't worth it but the atmosphere and the service was. Kitchen just needs a little fine tuning. I need to emphasize again that service and Jarrah were outstanding and we will ask for her when we go back.

“Awesome restaurant close to Austin”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 15, 2013

Austinites take note - this is an excellent restaurant close to home. It's 20 mins from downtown Austin. The food is fantastic and the atmosphere is so warm and welcoming. The Shrimp Diablo and Gorganzola Mac and Cheese are to die for. The waitress we had was so sweet and attentive. The beer and wine selection is fantastic and there are many local brews to choose from. One I particularly liked was The Peacemaker brewed in Austin.

“An unexpected delight”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 16, 2013

Stem & Stein in Pflugerville, Texas is a treasure hidden in the heart of a northern suburb of Austin, a few miles from Round Rock. We came across it by accident, having found it mentioned in a footnote on Yelp or another internet site.
There are two restaurants, really. The patio, which has a definite Texas vibe and often features live music, and the interior, which is reminiscent of a German gasthaus dining room.
The food is intriguing, featuring gorgonzola and truffle oil mac and cheese, the chef's mom's meatloaf, and very tasty, somewhat spicy fish tacos, among other interesting dishes. The wine selection is broad, but not pretentious, and there is a fine array of draft beers, including Founder's Red's Rye Pa - a brew not often found in central Texas.
We think this will be a regular stop for us.

“Delicious and quick!”

The food and atmosphere at PBK Stem & Stein was very enjoyable. We sat on the outdoor patio with 7 high schoolers. The food was delicious, but a bit too pricey for what we received.

“Nice visit but we expect more”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 5, 2013

We had an early dinner on a Saturday. Entrees range from $10-26. The shrimp (3) and scallops (2) plate with risotto and asparagus and the double-cut pork chop were both tasty dishes, but too much at $18 each. Dessert was $8. The service was great and the atmosphere was good, but the total bill was more than we are willing to pay in central Texas.
