Part of a group with four other couples from church did the over-night @ The Lodge on Lake Palo Pinto. Just an hour west of Fort Worth off I-20 but really a secluded country atmosphere.
Narrow, winding roads leading up to The Lodge - two of the other couples had been here otheriwse you'd drive right past their driveway. Enormous log cabin surrounded by trees on the top of the cliff looking down upon Lake Palo Pinto. Mike Lewis, did most of the building himself - had timber from Montana brought in and he set up a small saw-mill in what is now his driveway. Five guest rooms all with a different theme but all very clean, with plenty of space and each with their own bathroom. Big covered patio rings the entire lodge - we were there in spring so temps were pleasant but even in the heat of summer you would be able to sit out on the patio in comfort. Trees surround the Lodge so much so that when I walked down to the boat dock on the path (100 steps down - 300 up) so cannot even see the Lodge, the trees are
so prolific. They have created a few different patio overlooks to enjoy the wonderful view of Lake Palo Pinto which is a limited acces lake so it is really quiet and peaceful - not much boat traffic. Mijke & his wife Cindy are justifiablly proud of the sinsets you can experience from their property and we were treated to an awesome sunset on the night we stayed. Our group had brought along our own food & drinks for dinner and we enjoyed a casual meal on the deck attached right ot the Lodge. After it got dark we moved back down to one of the other decks
hald-way down to the lake and "treated" all our neighbors to a lareoke concert - need less to say Mike & Cindy might've received a few calls from their neighbors regarding our singing "talents". Breakfast on Sunday morning was delicious and spiced by Mike with some of his tried & true jokes that had us chuckling. The Lodge is just a nice little get-away for some peace & quiet with not a whole lot of planned activities. It was perfect for our small group outing and our group has along begun talks about a return trip, possibly in the fall to enjoy some of the fall colors on the trees
