The legend says this hotel used to be haunted, but the ghosts got tired of the tiny, dirty, noisy, and expensive rooms and went somewhere else where they could get a better service for the same prIce. Horrid experience.

After reading the reviews, a stop at the front desk, and drinks in the bar, we decided to stay elsewhere. However we were extremely glad that we tried the beer. The local IPA was out, so I tried Pale Ale on draft. I'm sorry to say that I did not get the name but it was one of the best Pale Ale's I've drank. I will plan another stop next time I pass by.

We stayed at the Faust for 4 days for a wedding. The property is lovely with its historical antiques -you feel like you are back in old Texas. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We had a suite on the 2nd floor which was a nice size and had a microwave, decent refrigerator and coffee maker. The bed was comfortable but the sofa was very hard. The room was loud due to the adjacent bar and smokers outside and in the morning the delivery trucks. The housekeeping staff was not the least bit friendly and did minimum service in the room.
The breakfast was nice in the morning including biscuits and gravy, good coffee and assorted bakery goods. Naegelin's bakery is across the street and has some of the best pastry in Texas for anytime of the day.
Overall the Faust was very nice and reasonably priced. The brewery at the hotel is very good with its own IPA with a live band on weekends.

Room Tip: stay in rooms away from the front or over the bar/restaurant.

Had a block of rooms for a wedding so a double was $89 per night. Small room, which is to be expected in an old hotel. The showers water was really hot at times (toilets flushing?). Soft beds which I like. Nice staff. The bar is very busy and loud,no where to park if you leave the hotel on a Sat night. Ask for a room away from the bar and/or bring earplugs. The wireless internet never worked in our room. Would try someplace else next time.

Room Tip: away from the bar and elevator.

Check in was less than 5 minutes. Staff was amazingly friendly. They demonstrated many of the antique pieces (1920's register, phonograph etc) and we even uncovered an old sales receipt! Ghost stories were shared...we now have our own as our comforter was taken off of us twice! The tub was HUGE and we enjoyed a very nice hot bubble bath. The old tile floor added much character. The room (203) was cozy and intimate. The bed, comfy. It was a NON smoking and very pleasurable experience. Sure, it's not a 5-star establishment by Big City standards but the ambiance and beautiful furnishings, rustic flooring and ornate structures made up for any pretention-laden neediness that one might demand. I would recommend this to any person looking for some culture and depth in their travels. If you want someone to wipe your backside with a silk cloth, this is probably not the hotel for you. Thank you to The Faust!
