The legend says this hotel used to be haunted, but the ghosts got tired of the tiny, dirty, noisy, and expensive rooms and went somewhere else where they could get a better service for the same prIce. Horrid experience.

After reading the reviews, a stop at the front desk, and drinks in the bar, we decided to stay elsewhere. However we were extremely glad that we tried the beer. The local IPA was out, so I tried Pale Ale on draft. I'm sorry to say that I did not get the name but it was one of the best Pale Ale's I've drank. I will plan another stop next time I pass by.

We stayed at the Faust for 4 days for a wedding. The property is lovely with its historical antiques -you feel like you are back in old Texas. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We had a suite on the 2nd floor which was a nice size and had a microwave, decent refrigerator and coffee maker. The bed was comfortable but the sofa was very hard. The room was loud due to the adjacent bar and smokers outside and in the morning the delivery trucks. The housekeeping staff was not the least bit friendly and did minimum service in the room.
The breakfast was nice in the morning including biscuits and gravy, good coffee and assorted bakery goods. Naegelin's bakery is across the street and has some of the best pastry in Texas for anytime of the day.
Overall the Faust was very nice and reasonably priced. The brewery at the hotel is very good with its own IPA with a live band on weekends.

Room Tip: stay in rooms away from the front or over the bar/restaurant.

Had a block of rooms for a wedding so a double was $89 per night. Small room, which is to be expected in an old hotel. The showers water was really hot at times (toilets flushing?). Soft beds which I like. Nice staff. The bar is very busy and loud,no where to park if you leave the hotel on a Sat night. Ask for a room away from the bar and/or bring earplugs. The wireless internet never worked in our room. Would try someplace else next time.

Room Tip: away from the bar and elevator.

Check in was less than 5 minutes. Staff was amazingly friendly. They demonstrated many of the antique pieces (1920's register, phonograph etc) and we even uncovered an old sales receipt! Ghost stories were shared...we now have our own as our comforter was taken off of us twice! The tub was HUGE and we enjoyed a very nice hot bubble bath. The old tile floor added much character. The room (203) was cozy and intimate. The bed, comfy. It was a NON smoking and very pleasurable experience. Sure, it's not a 5-star establishment by Big City standards but the ambiance and beautiful furnishings, rustic flooring and ornate structures made up for any pretention-laden neediness that one might demand. I would recommend this to any person looking for some culture and depth in their travels. If you want someone to wipe your backside with a silk cloth, this is probably not the hotel for you. Thank you to The Faust!

I'm glad to see so many folks enjoyed their stay here. I was drawn to it because of its reasonable price, convenient location, and other favorable reviews. The room was incredibly tiny, decorated with period furniture, and looked old and tired amidst its slight nostalgic charm. The bathroom, including tiny shower, was the size of 3 phone booths, good enough for survival cleansing, but not enjoyable. The mattress was so inadequate that after a one hour nap I awoke with a bad backache. To sleep the night I had to remove the mattress from the bed and put it on the floor., which was very painful with the aforementioned backache. When checking in I asked for a room in a quiet area so I could rest(fighting off a cold), but an hour later an entire extended family in town for a wedding checked in to the five rooms surrounding mine and made the hallway their social gathering place, complete with children playing and balls bouncing on the wall. I was too shy to break up their happiness at being together. This is just one of those occasional incidents, not the fault of the hotel's normal operation, but still a mis-judgement of the front desk that did not foresee that the quiet area I requested was going to get very busy very soon.

I planned a birthday weekend for a friend, with a total of 7 of us in 4 rooms. The only room with a coffeemaker was the upgraded suite. The rooms are very small, the furnishings and carpet are old. The best part of this hotel is the location; within walking distance to several good restaurants. the second best thing is the brewery bar in the back of the hotel. There was a wedding the night we were there and it was a jumpin joint. It's a small hotel, book early if you have special needs, like double beds. Pricing is reasonable.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Since coming under new ownership in July 2009, there has been a great deal of effort put towards restoring The Faust Hotel & Brewing Company to its original luxury and grandeur. The project has been extensive and is still in progress, but many changes and upgrades can be found throughout the entire property. Our newly redesigned guest suites feature 1920's Art Deco design while incorporating modern amenities including:Wireless Internet, Flat Screen Televisions, Refrigerators, Microwaves, Keurig Coffee Makers, Brita Pitchers. In addition to our guest suites, we have a variety of accommodations to suit your needs including rooms with 1 or 2 double beds, queen and king size beds. The brew pub has something to please everyone in your party: Flat screen TVs, darts, live music, trivia and the comforting surroundings of a classic brauhaus. The Faust Brewing Company now features an array of house brews, including Faust Golden Ale, Altered States German Altbier and Mike Crowe IPA, as well as a variety of seasonal favorites. Leading the production is Ray Mitteldorf, a professional brew master with 17 years experience. For a complete experience, the pub has recently launched its new tapas-style menu, created by Chef Chris Kilisz. His exclusive menu features items specifically designed for sharing and pairing with the pub’s own microbrews: their signature dish, the Faust Wellington, Mini Dogs topped with sauerkraut, sautéed bell peppers and onions and spicy mustard, and German Nachos, to name a few. Just as the pub isn’t limited to beer (there’s liquor and wine, too), the menu isn’t limited to German-inspired options: it boasts a broad spectrum of international cuisine with dishes such as the Croque Monsieur, Souvlaki Skewers, Proscuitto Caprese Bruschetta, and Cochanitas. ... more   less
