We had our friends from England in this past June to visit with us for about a month, and we took them out and about to see various things within a 4-hour radius from Houston, actually 5 if you count our jaunt to New Orleans to introduce the English to Bourbon Street.

One of our mini-trips was to Austin, Round Rock actually, to visit with another couple we knew there and on the way over, travelling slowly, we stopped in for an evening at the Tavern on the Gruene, which is on the... campus I suppose you'd say, of the Gruene Homestead Inn.

A sort of upscale but typical country bar, there was a live band, dance floor with people taking advantage of it, good audio volume away from the stage to still allow conversation, and really good bar service, though there wasn't much in the way of waitstaff out on the floor (Tuesday evening). Still, a great time, and obviously a favorite place for local folks and vacationers alike to drop in, have a couple beers, tap your foot and maybe dance a bit, too. Very fun place.

Room Tip: We didn't stay at the Homestead, only visited the Tavern, so I can't really say how the room...

While working in Austin for a couple of weeks, we decided to go for a little relaxation. Gruene Homestead Inn was a fabulous place to relax and enjoy the country! The property has several buildings and a pool. We stayed in a room that had a front porch which was very enjoyable in the morning. Their is music in the tavern that is on the property - would be nice if they didn't smoke in the tavern...
The property is a collection of distinctive farmhouses and they have made it just absolutely beautiful! Kudos to the owners, management team and staff!

We have been staying at the Gruene Homestead Inn for years. The staff is exceptional and the property is beautiful and centrally located to other spots in the Hill Country. This property also hosts a relaxing pool and spa. Breakfast is superb with something different added each day. If you need anything such as directions, extra blankets or towels, suggestions of what to see or do the staff is eager to help. They will even take the time to print directions to places of interest for you. This is a B&B you won't want to miss out on!!!!!! Thanks Ed and staff, Lynn and Jimm D.

stayed over the Memorial Day weekend, it was not crowded . breakfast every morning in main house was delicious! close to all activities . tavern was an easy walk and a great way to end evening. rooms were large, had a wonderful front porch with rocking chairs, wonderful place to read...an electric gate to enter property so no worries about safety. All the employees were super courteous and helpful. the little Gruene historical district is over the top! way better than New Bruanfsel.......enjoyed our stay . Would stay here again.

Stayed 3 nights over a holiday weekend and really enjoyed our stay. Comfy bed and unique rooms. The Tavern on the property is nice to have if you don't want to get out amidst the bustle of people. The breakfast is more self serve than a traditional B&B but its good. Just a mile or so from the center of historic Gruene. Would have given it a 5 if there had been a resturant within walking distance and had larger/nicer TVs in the room..............

We had a great experience at Gruene Homestead Inn. Very unique place with quite an interesting history.

We received a complimentary room upgrade because a nicer room went unbooked. We found the room to be complete and clean. The grounds were meticulously maintained and the bar/pool area was nice with very reasonably priced drinks. Our only complaint was heavy cigarette smoke in the bar, but that's somewhat to be expected in a bar.

I don't know how many times we have stayed here but we have never been disappointed. The rooms are clean and even though you are in the middle of a booming town, you feel like you are in the country. The staff is freindly and helpful. Breakfast is good. You are next to the Tavern on the Gruene, a good place to have a cold beer and listen to good Texas music. Down the street is the famous Gruene Hall and the Grist Mill. Two places every Texan or wannabe Texas must go. We have already booked for Labor Day weekend.

Room Tip: The Silo is a fun choice of rooms. It is an actual grain silo converted to a room. The bedroom is up...
