Description: Situated on a bluff overlooking the Guadalupe River, this spectacular restaurant nestled under the shade of towering oak trees has been the perfect getaway for a unique casual dining experience for thirty years. Located in the historic district of Gruene just beneath the famous Gruene water tower, we opened in 1977, serving steaks and hamburgers from a tiny kitchen in the corner of the building. Our menu still features thick steaks and large hamburgers, but the restaurant also serves up popular South Texas fare like chicken fried steak, fried catfish, grilled chicken, enormous sandwiches, fresh fish and special dishes like tomatillo chicken and bronzed catfish. Fudge pie, the enormous strawberry shortcake and our signature Jack Daniel's Pecan Pie are famous desserts. A full bar with a good wine list and fresh squeezed lime margaritas are also big hits.

Enjoyed a wonderful family evening with a group of 15. Very accommodating to set up tables in advance; waitress was a bit overwhelmed.

This was the first time we ate inside at Gristmill. Had lunch, outside temperatures were in the 20's. The inside fireplaces were raging, and we had prime seats right in front of Lupe! We had a pulled pork sandwich & the Gruene club sandwich, both were great.

A very unique restaurant set in the remains of a cotton gin mill. The food is well prepaired and the staff was very friendly. I caution you to let your stomach and not your eyes to choose your food - the portions are humongous!!.

Located in the historic area aka/ tourist trap of Gruene. We visited on a Saturday and as expected they were fairly busy. Our server Beth was fast, friendly and efficient. Prices were reasonable with good sized portions and everyone in our party enjoyed their meal. Would definitely return.

This place is a staple for us each time we are in New Braunfels. Bee coming back here for years and never disappointed. Ask for seating outside overlooking the river. Beautiful view. As for the food, always delicious.

The catfish, either bronzed or fried are great. The Mashed potatoes are made, well, out of potatoes not poured out of a box. And the chicken fried steak - well you won't go wrong with that with! Down home country cooking that is delicious! Highly recommended.
