Description: Situated on a bluff overlooking the Guadalupe River, this spectacular restaurant nestled under the shade of towering oak trees has been the perfect getaway for a unique casual dining experience for thirty years. Located in the historic district of Gruene just beneath the famous Gruene water tower, we opened in 1977, serving steaks and hamburgers from a tiny kitchen in the corner of the building. Our menu still features thick steaks and large hamburgers, but the restaurant also serves up popular South Texas fare like chicken fried steak, fried catfish, grilled chicken, enormous sandwiches, fresh fish and special dishes like tomatillo chicken and bronzed catfish. Fudge pie, the enormous strawberry shortcake and our signature Jack Daniel's Pecan Pie are famous desserts. A full bar with a good wine list and fresh squeezed lime margaritas are also big hits.

First make sure you order the onion rings. Second, go when you're real hungry as the portions are huge. Order the burger and you can't miss. Of course they have all the local brews and cocktails. This was a highlight of my visit to New Braunfels, Texas.

The setting is beautiful and the food is delicious. We went on a Sunday night and there was no wait. Our waiter left a bit to be desired, but the food and the view made up for this.

The prices were a little higher than your average family restaurant, but worth it. I loved that the atmosphere was casual but had a rustic beauty.

Be sure to leave some time to walk around the grounds. It's just beautiful.

We came back as we had an extraordinary experience the last time we ate here. But this time I must say I was less impressed. The facility remains an interesting place, with its old timber building, open environment, lack of AC... The servers are very young, inexperienced, trying to do the job, but not very good at it. Service could certainly improve.

The food is fairly cheap (all-in around $35/pers) and the portions are huge; Texas size at least! The global food experience is about average. The ribeye is Ok, but not more than that. The ribs are certainly not the best around. Only remarkable is the Spinach and artichoke dip; that one is good.

It is the best And most interesting restaurant in town, but it has room for improvement, no doubt.

We recently visited the Schlitterbahn and I read about the restaurant on the Internet so we decided to give it a try. We loved the atmosphere and the food was great. This is a must if you are in the area! Check out the general store too!

Good food. Excellent live music & seating under trees if you have to wait for a table. Friendly staff. Seating in mill or along river. In picturesque town of Gruene. Next to oldest dance hall in Texas. Gruene Market/Craft Fair on third Saturday of month. Delightful!
