Description: Situated on a bluff overlooking the Guadalupe River, this spectacular restaurant nestled under the shade of towering oak trees has been the perfect getaway for a unique casual dining experience for thirty years. Located in the historic district of Gruene just beneath the famous Gruene water tower, we opened in 1977, serving steaks and hamburgers from a tiny kitchen in the corner of the building. Our menu still features thick steaks and large hamburgers, but the restaurant also serves up popular South Texas fare like chicken fried steak, fried catfish, grilled chicken, enormous sandwiches, fresh fish and special dishes like tomatillo chicken and bronzed catfish. Fudge pie, the enormous strawberry shortcake and our signature Jack Daniel's Pecan Pie are famous desserts. A full bar with a good wine list and fresh squeezed lime margaritas are also big hits.

We visit during a Saturday night knowing it will be busy. Hostess told us 20-25 minutes. Wait was actually 45 minutes!!! I can understand being a little off, but not that much. Even when we went to follow-up, they told us another 5 minutes and it became another 15 minutes. These people really need to provided better estimates as this only made us more frustrated. When we finally sat down to eat, the waitress (Jennie) was great. Even though they were busy, she was attentive and very friendly (which is nice since when you are busy, it can be taxing). Food came out correct -however, my dates food was cold. My plate entree was hot with the side being warm. The waitress had the manager come by. The manager (whom came by very quickly) was very polite and offered many times to replace the food. Even offered to set up a fresh plate to go. My date was okay with what she had and only asked for a to-go box to warm it up at home. The manager had the meal price taken off the ticket which was nice that she was trying very hard to make sure we were happy. I would go back but would like it if the hostess time frames estimates would get better.

Great place to eat and while you are waiting you can listen to music and have a cold beer or frozen margarita under the trees. Views are great and the food is as good as it gets. Be sure to get the onion rings and Gruene Beans. It is all good,

Amazing atmosphere, amazing food, but killed by the rude managers that judged and reprimanded our group before even talking to us. Threatened to send a member of our party to jail after we waited an hour and said a very innocent and apologetic cuss word. We were all then cut off and our 13 person group of sober individuals were told to calm down before kicked out. Unnecessary and ridiculous.

Great atmosphere, huge portions, good food, great service.
We waited for 5 minutes, listening to a guitar player who entertained outside until they wrote our name on the board - nice touch.
The view is lovely and you don't to miss it on a warm spring day.
