Description: This was the very first Clear Springs location. It's actually located in Clear Springs, Texas between Seguin and New Braunfels. The building dates back to 1869 when it was mainly used as a grocery store for the locals. If you are ever in the area, it's worth the trip to check out the history that's behind this popular location. You better come early, standing room only is a common sight here.

“Fried Goodies”
Reviewed October 17, 2012

This is a place to go when you have that need for something fried. I like the onion rings to get started before the meal comes out to the table. The beer is always cold and the atmosphere is relaxing. Deserts are also very good with cake or cobbler my choice. I usually order the small catfish dinner and it is plenty to eat. Good place to take small or large groups. Just a short drive off of I-35 on Hwy 46.

“Great place for families”
Reviewed September 17, 2012

Our family of 6 have passed this restaurant for years every time we go to Schlitterbahn from Houston. We finally decided to stop and try it out. We were mostly pleased with our meals. The onion rings and fried pickles were tried and while good, weren't anything particularly special. Two people got the jalapeno crawfish chowder and loved it. The chicken fried chicken was good as well as the garlic mashed potatoes and seasonal veggies. However the children had the fried catfish and they said it was overdone and dried out. After all of this though, we would probably return for another try.

“CLEAR SPRINGS CAFE: WHAT A CATCH!”
Reviewed September 14, 2012

For some reason, I hadn't eaten here in a couple of years. My mistake. I ate here last night and everything was wonderful. Most of the plates on the table were cleaned with almost nothing left behind. Our group sampled several things and found the onion rings as wonderful as always, the fried mushroom appetizer was excellent, the shrimp brochette very tasty (one skewer can be added to an entree for $4.99), the fried shrimp very good especially with the tartar sauce and the reason people come here: THE CATFISH! The fried shrimp are not butterflied and heavily battered which does mute the flavor somewhat, but the batter is tasty so we enjoyed them.

There is a large main dining room, an upper room and at least two back rooms. There may be a wait even with all those rooms but many people don't let that deter them from this local gem!

“Cold Food and Veggies out of a Can”
Reviewed September 8, 2012

I ordered the grilled shirmp, it was cold in the middle and lacked any flavor. My green beans were clearly out of a can and tasted like they were just warmed up. Corn was ok but was out of a can too. The onion rings were large but nothing out of this world. We where hoping for a much better meal but will just stick with the Gristmill when in New Braunfels.

“Perfect meal following a day at the Comal River!”
Reviewed August 21, 2012

Clear Springs Cafe is a great place for lively food and a festive atmosphere. After a long day at the river, it is the perfect place to have a great meal. While they have a large well rounded menu, the fresh fried catfish is an all time favorite. The atmosphere is wonderfully casual, as the restaurant is set in a repurposed cotton warehouse which was once a dance hall where many Texas staples, such a Willie Nelson, once performed. Treat yourself to the onion rings, relax and have a great meal!
