Really, this is the best restaurant in Gruene, TX. Recently they have opened for dinner on Friday and Saturday nights and not only is the food wonderful, the surroundings are lovely lit by small white lights on the grape vine garlands hanging from the ceiling. Homemade soups and quiches change daily. The regular lunch menu offers sandwiches, like the Chef Croissant with hand shaved turkey and ham, fresh avocado and bacon. There's a wonderful fettucine with large shrimp. The 1/2 sandwich and soup entree is great for a light lunch. The blackeyed pea salsa also recently added to the menu is served with homemade fried tortilla chips and is one of the best appetizers we've tried in ages. The Tea Room is sometimes open for holidays and there is a special menu added to the standard one or just a special menu is offered. The Tilapia is wonderful, as is the roasted prime rib. Sides generally consist of fresh sauteed veggies and garlic mashers or orzo pilaf. There is a nice selection of reasonably priced wines and imported beers. Desserts are some of the best we've had. Always fresh and home made.
