“Historical and historically good!”

Due to it being located in the old post office, this seafood restaurant has some history. Enjoy the atmosphere and the food. I've visited three times and the service can be hit or miss at moments. But the mouth watering boiled crawfish more than makes up for it! Don't pass this up if you want seafood in New Braunfels!

“Service has Declined over the past few years”
Reviewed October 15, 2013

I am a resident of New Braunfels, and have always enjoyed visiting McAdoo's for fun and special occasions. It was always at the top of my list for birthdays and anniversaries. Unfortunately, this past weekend we had pretty disappointing service. We had a party of 10 to celebrate a friend's bday (thank goodness not mine!), and we sat on the patio since it was Saturday night and there were no large group tables available. We were seated promptly and our drink orders taken. Our party arrived couple by couple and some opted for apps which were presented. Then we all ordered the same time. This is where a great evening started going south. We received our food 3 plates at a time with about a 10 minute interval in between. The server was very apologetic, unfortunately, that doesn't make our food come out any faster. Strangely, one of the last plates to come out was a salad with cold shrimp on it. Those of us that received our plates started to eat since it was already somewhat cold when we received it. Additionally, my $25 plate consisted of only 3 shrimp, 3 scallops, roasted potatoes, and brocollini. I'm not sure what brocollini is, but the taste was horrible. The person sitting next to me asked for a substitute of brocolli, but unfortunately the restaurant no longer serves brocolli. So some people had finished eating, while others were still receiving their food. Fortunately, we were in good company and didn't have pending plans that we needed to be somewhere by a certain time. By the time everyone finished eating, the manager came out and apologized. Then about 10-15 minutes later, the waitress finally comes back to figure out our billing with a comp birthday bread pudding for the birthday person and ONE piece of key lime pie with 10 spoons. I guess we were supposed to assume the key lime pie was to make up for the meal that took about 45 minutes to finally serve everyone plus the inadequate portions for the money you spend.
The food is good (except for the brocollini - maybe if you bring your own brocolli and they will cook it for you), but the portions are small, so spend the extra money on a salad or eat something before you come. And if you have a larger group, maybe if you sit at separate tables, you will all be served within a decent amount of time.
The only reasons I rated this restaurant is POOR is due to the lack of time management in the kitchen, portion size and value. Maybe we will just get take out next time!

“One of New Braunfels Best”
Reviewed October 14, 2013

I have been to this restaurant many times for family dinners and business lunches. The food is always superb, the service is great and the place has a good atmosphere. My only complaint would be that depending on what you get, some of the selections seem a little skimpy for the price. The menu changes fairly frequently, so there are new offerings to choose from.

“really good food!”
Reviewed October 14, 2013

As close to New Orleans fare as anything outside Louisiana! The bread is true New Orleans, soft shell crabs wonderful. Have eaten here many times and everything has been wonderful. Service and atmosphere great! Gumbo so delicious, would go all the time if it was a little closer to where I live. Prices are reasonable. Good portions.

“Where great food happens!”
Reviewed September 17, 2013

McAdoo's Seafood Company is a first-rate dining experience. The restaurant is in the old New Braunfels Post Office building...and McAdoo was the Postmaster General when the building was put up. (You can see his name in the cornerstone.)
What's good about it? Atmosphere: Open, clean and airy feeling. Service: ALWAYS impeccable, thorough and timely, without being intrusive. Food: GREAT Cajun-style food. The stars on the menu are all seafood related. If you are not a seafood lover, try the chicken-fried ribeye. Best chicken fried anything in Texas!
I take visitors and friends there to eat and I never worry how it's going to be this time. This is a must-do restaurant in New Braunfels.
