I'm perhaps not the one to be rating Schlitterbahn-- I hate crowds and I hate paying so much for spending time in line, after line, after line-- just to ride a slide. But kids love it.
The corporation that owns it is not the best-- they don't have good safety procedures in place for their employees (one young man was killed last summer because of it). And they've dominated what used to be a historic neighborhood.

Great park on hot days. Stays crowded so get there early. Plan to stay all day since some rides have long lines.

Great water park that can get crowded. The rides are great. Blastenhof has the best rides.....and the longest lines. The lazy river a great way to go......

Schlitterbahn is a great place for wet family fun. You can take your cooler, lunch, drinks, table cloth and have your picnic. There are three separate parks, in close proximity, all serviced by shuttle buses. So you can start at one, walk to another and ride to the main park, or start at the main and go from there. One park is more for the toddlers and one is for the ones up to junior high, and the main park is for all ages. I love the two smaller parks because they have a round river that you can get in a tube and float in a 15 minute circle for hours.

The original park is built along the banks of the Comal River and use that water for the attractions. A shuttle takes you to the new parts of the park which uses city water but is still built along the river. Rides for the old and young. Many of the people we talked to were return visitors. You can bring your own picnic and drinks except for alcohol and glass items and parking is free.
