This property is obviously overdue for some remodeling. One critical item that needs replacing are the mattresses. We were unable to get a good night's sleep due to their being hard and uncomfortable (despite their label stating they are '05 Simmons Beautyrest Pillowtops). Guess they are just worn out from so much use. The sofa in our suite badly needed reupholstering also, as it had numerous tears and stains. Fluorescent lights were buzzing in the bathroom, indicating they needed new ballasts (according to my husband). There is no exhaust fan or A/C vent in the bathroom, and the windows do not open, so there is no way to let fresh air into the room. This is probably the source of the musty smell other reviewers have mentioned.

On the positive side, we found all the staff to be friendly and helpful, they upgraded us to a two-room king/queen suite at no extra charge (probably because we're Priority Club members), breakfast was good and well stocked, TVs were newer LCDs, and A/C worked well. We enjoyed watching nine deer in the open meadow behind the hotel, and the swimming pool area with waterfall was very pretty and clean. We were able to bring our cat along also, since they permit small pets. That was the main reason we chose this particular hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for quiet room on back side of hotel.

Nice room but expensive for the area. The manager/owner parks his car in the middle of the drive-in lane and leaves it there--no room for other cars.

Room Tip: There are other less expensive hotels of the same quality in the area!

Average Holiday Inn Express experience - clean and comfortable rooms and a continental breakfast. Staff were friendly and helpful - only negative to note was the somewhat noisy air conditioner unit. We were there during a 'busy' weekend in Nac - SFA football game, Veterans Day - and did notice that the room rates and availability varied significantly during the week before our stay.

We arrived to a lobby strewn with the luggage of several volly ball teams/players/parents. It is a college town so I guess that's normal. Upon a less than friendly check in I was warned that there is a $200.00 fine for smoking in my non-smoking room - well, duh! Why would I reserve a non-smoking room if I wanted to smoke? I entered our room and it was musty smelling and muggy. Overall the rest of the staff was friendly and hard working in every area where we encountered them. The main problem with this property is that it needs some remodeling and updating and the internet was not effecient it kept going on and off - my Iphone didn't work very well either. The grounds behind the pool are nice there is a deer feeder there though we didn't see any. Its a very small town so there aren't many choices and I'm a priority club member so I know what to expect as far as ammentities go. I only give a lower than usual rating because of the quality and smell of the room and its decor.

I am a Platinum Priority Club member and stay Holiday Inn 40 - 50 nights a year. This was one of the best Express experiences. Nice personal touches (candies, cookies in reception) Hotel was spotless and the staff friendly. The pool is even a bit better than the usual HIE offering. Breakfast buffet was the usual express fare but the woman refilling was fast and helpful. I would recommend this for business or pleasure. None of the hotels in town have much character and this is one in a sea of strip mall offerings but the service made it stand out for me.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We had made a special request regarding the room when we made the reservation --it was honored with no problem. We loved the milk and cookies at bedtime. One of our best nights on this vacation.

We generally try to stay at HIE to build Priority Club points, but when we tried to redeem them online (first time) for this facility we had a difficult time. Apparently, there is an extra step for confirmation that is different from the usual reservations, a problem HIE needs to solve. This hotel did not have our reservations and said they could not give us the points, so we simply paid premium price for the stay. The young woman at the desk was very pleasant, but couldn't help much. The manager NEVER came out to speak with us. Does HIE management resent having to provide rooms to redeem Priority Club points? If so, we'll take business to Comfort Suites, who is providing some pretty stiff competition for the HIE chain and whose management seems to be more hospitable, as a rule. The rooms at the Nacogdoches HIE are generally nice and very clean. The breakfast is adequate (cinnamon rolls are usually delish, but you can almost see through the bacon slices), the cleaning staff friendly and accommodating. We did ask for a room on the 1st floor because we had a grandchild with us...the room had a very musty smell, though clean. No climate controls on wall. Definitely not the best room in the house and not worth the price we paid, but we did not want our 4 year old to disturb anyone. Musicians came in noisily across the hall in the middle of the night, and when we came out the next morning there was a condom wrapper on the floor outside the door. The pool water was murky, so we decided not to swim. The wireless was not responsive...could never pull it up on my Mac. All in all, not the best stay, but not the worst. We have had much better stays in this hotel. Not sure we will continue with HIE due to the difficulty of redeeming points.
