Owner description: The Historic Town Center/Visitor Center, located on the square, was built in 1917 as the city’s post office. Here you can view exhibits of early Nacogdoches, watch the video on Nacogdoches and pick up additional literature on the town. Restroom facilities are available.

This building was a library when we lived in Nacogdoches. It is a beautiful building and now contains the town's visitor center.

There are a few small exhibits here that showcase Nacogdoches history, from the Indians that inhabited the area to current time. Well done. There are pamphlets available and plenty of them. A movie is also available to view, but we did not partake. They have a small shop to purchase items and I bought a picture book on Nacogdoches as a Christmas gift, along with some postcards. Service is friendly and they are very helpful if you have any questions.

The outside of the property is very nice-lots of lush landscaping, flowers, and benches. Sit for a while and watch the Nacogdoches world go by! Red brick streets, interesting architectural buildings, birds, small town life.

Nacogdoches is the Oldest Town in Texas and is full of interesting places to visit and photograph. The Visitor's Center, located in the Old Downtown Post Office building, is a great starting place. It is staffed with volunteers who are generally helpful and knowledgeable. The building itself is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

The center is right in the middle of the historic downtown, with interesting historic displays and friendly, helpful people.

If you're not sure where to start in touring Nacogdoches' , especially the "hidden gems", this is a good place -- it has brochures, maps, and helpful staff -- all located in what was the old downtown Library, so it's in the "middle" of the quaint downtown (which, BTW, is paved with brick streets, and just across the street from the Fire Station and the Old Time Mercantile Store, also a "must see." Also, downstairs in the visitor's center, there is a neat little "oil history" museum with a few good displays on drilling in early East Texas, and some other "local" artwork and displays.

The lady working in the visitor's center on 3.13.2012 had more important things to do than be friendly and helpful to visitors. She was the least friendly person we met in Nac. Maybe she was having personal problems. Whatever the problem was she could not be bothered with the likes of tourists.
