“With a little work could be amazing..”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2013 via mobile

Went for a quick getaway with family. Live in Houston so like the convenience. When we arrived I was not aware they were remodeling the lobby so wasn't sure where to check in. Arrived a little early but we were allowed to utilize the pool until our room was ready. They were nice enough to call us to let us know when our room was ready and it did not take that long.

We were really there for the pool activities because that is what my kids like. Pools are nice. Slides fun but no lifeguards or monitors so you need to make sure you are watching out for your kids. Lazy river small but heated so that is a nice treat. Nice poolside menu so able to enjoy standard pool menu and drinks. They did not have any small tables near pool chairs which would have been nice. There are not a lot of shaded areas or umbrellas available and they should really reconsider this in the summer Texas heat. I have to agree with other reviews that they really need to work on the landscape and lawn manicure. When you are in the lazy river you are looking at a lot of weeds! The beach area did not look like other artificial hotel beaches. Not really kept up and no chairs or anything in that part if you wanted to sit down and let kids play in sand. They do s'mores in the evening which kids always enjoy.

Rooms are nice and the suite set up is ideal for families. The room had a balcony but no chairs to sit out and enjoy the view. If I am going to pay extra for a lake view room then I would like to have the option to sit outside on the balcony and enjoy. Other little things about the room that keep me from rating higher are there were only 2 sets of towels yet we booked the room stating there were going to be 4.

Family Dining options (not including Coco bay by the pool) are not that great in my opinion. The main dining room only had a buffet option for dinner and we really did not want BBQ. They recommended we try Energie which is the sushi restaurant and told us we could order off the menu there. We went there and even though the place was empty we had hard time getting seated and when we did we were seated at a wobbly table that was dirty. We decided the fact that both the restaurants were pretty empty on a Saturday night that there were probably better options outside the hotel. We ended up going to Five Guys and had great burgers. There are lots of chains and dining options on HWY105. We did eat the breakfast buffet prior to leaving. Food was good but had to find someone to take our drink order. The carpet was extremely dirty with food and hard for me to imagine that was all from breakfast that morning. It is also strange that the restaurants are in the conference center area and not in the main hotel.

The one thing I will say is even though the staff seemed stretched thin they were all extremely friendly and helpful. I would come back again but I think there are a few things management needs to work on to make this a top notch resort.

Nice stay. Lots of things for the kids to do. We will be back! We tried the restaurant 157 one night but the buffet did not have much variety. We had dinner outside twice during our stay. It would be nice to have better options.

Liked the adult pool, although they could use another bar up there or at least a second waiter. Had dinner at Lakeside and enjoyed it. Probably a little expensive for what you get paying for a tower lakeside, but was nice, and could see 5-6 fireworks shows from the balcony.

We came here for a 4 day weekend with our 4 year old daughter. There are same great things about the hotel. The room layout was great. Our daughter slept in the 'living room' and we were in the master. This was nice at night when she went to sleep and we weren't ready to hit the sack yet. Our trip started off a little rough because they were out of roll away beds and air mattresses. They did however give us free breakfast and when we returned to our room that evening they had made up an air mattress.
The pool overall was really nice. The lazy river was slightly disappointing but the kids water play scape was awesome. Our daughter also really enjoyed swimming in the lake beach.
Our biggest complaint was the service. There was overall a lack of refinement that you will find at other resorts we have traveled to in Texas. We had the free breakfast but thank goodness it was free. We were forgotten about, with our coffees never refilled until we were leaving and witnessing employees being reprimanded for minor mistakes. Also, many of the employees seemed to be teenagers and brought their teenage attitude, appearance, and experiences.
We probably won't stay here again, however have really enjoyed the area and would be interested in coming back to Lake Conroe.

This was suppose to be AAA Four Diamond Texas Resort but it seems past its heyday. Just got back from July 4th weekend and we were booked to stay through the weekend but decided to cut our stay short. We stayed in the Tower and couldn't really fault the actual room. The room was very well designed. It was like a one bedroom apt. It had a separate living room area with a tv and door that sealed the bedroom from any hallway noise. The bedroom had its own tv, platform bed and minimal windows making it nice and dark for sleeping. Bathroom was huge with a separate walk-in shower and soaking tub. The tub was dirty and remained unused during our stay.

Our complaint had to do with the pool area and food. For a resort, it didn't seem that they were prepared for the holiday crowd. There was lack of pool lounges. When we did manage to find one, they seemed to be broken. Counted maybe 6 poolside umbrellas and no poolside tables. The pools need resurfacing. Our swimsuits got badly damaged. Restaurant 157 decided to do buffets and they were very lackluster. Again, they were unprepared for the holiday crowd. I can see how this resort is sufficient enough for families with younger kids but for couples looking for a luxury resort getaway, it is not.

We had a great family weekend at La Torretta. We rented a golf cottage (see picture) and stayed for 2 nights. The cottage was away from the main part of the hotel so you had to either call a shuttle or drive over and park in the parking lot. We mostly opted for the shuttle because the drivers were friendly and super fast. The longest we ever waited for a shuttle was only a few minutes. The cottages were nice on the inside. It had 2 rooms and 2 bathrooms and an additional living area with a small table for dining. It is worth noting that there was no refrigerator or microwave in the cottage, but it did have parking for 2 cars. As for the pool area, it was nice. I would not call it luxury and it definitely was not new, but it met our needs 100%. There was a toddler pool that was covered and gated off which was nice for my little guy. There was also a kids area with slides and water features, a large open pool, a pool with big slides, an adult only infinity pool, and a lazy river. While it got busy during peak times we never felt like it was way too crowded. Given that it is a resort, they offered the typical family friendly resort activities during the days and evenings. We particularly liked the s'mores at night. I would definitely consider going back for a quick weekend getaway with the family. We had a great time.

Stayed here with my college girlfriends for a getaway weekend. We are all in our early 30s and found it to be a great place to relax and have fun. There were no kids at the adult pool and service was excellent. Had a wonderful dinner at lakeside (Ian was a great server) and a fun night dancing and singing karaoke at the bar. It really was a great time.
