very interesting place & beautiful building. Parking is a little awkward thought. Worth a visit. Also have a look at the church & also Rushton Hall, architecture is well worth looking at.

“A magnificent little building with an interesting history”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 7, 2012

A magnificent little building with an interesting history. Sir Thomas Tresham who was the father of one of the 1605 November 5th gunpowder plotters built this. It was built incorporating triangles and sides of 3 as a demonstration of his Catholic faith and it symbolises the Holy Trinity.

“Exquisite geometrical architecture, rich in symbolism.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 27, 2012

While staying at nearby Cottingham, we thought we'd get our money's worth from our English Heritage membership and this little place was on the list. What a mathematical and religious surprise this well-preserved artefact of Tudor England is. Built by Sir Thomas Tresham in the last decade of the 16th century, the triangular lodge really is. And everything about it is triangular or trefoil - an architectural tribute to Roman Catholicism built at a time when making that kind of statement was becoming a bit risky. Indeed, Tresham's son, Francis, went on to meet an untimely death as a result of becoming embroiled in the Gunpowder Plot. Tresham died the same year, 1605, having lost much of his wealth in fines for his faith. However, this wonderful little building remains and is a must-see.

Irritatingly, there are no interpretation boards so, if you want to find out about the symbolism of the astonishing architecture of the Triangular Lodge, you will need to buy the guidebook. Parking is in the layby opposite. A visit will only take 30 minutes and simply should not be missed. Be warned, there is no toilet!

“History to this building really interesting”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 24, 2012

Great History to this, and the story continues to Rushton Hall hotel too. Definately work a look. I have taken a few friends there on sundays, you need to check and see when its open and sometimes during the winter months its not, but its worth a nose around.
