After hearing so many good reviews and upon taking on board friends recommendations we visited the Thornhill Arms for Sunday lunch today.
The pub is amazing inside & the decor and ambience divine, I must say that if I drove past its not a property that I would go into on the off chance but wow ! when you walk in it really is so tastefully decorated and dressed.
This being our first visit for a carvery we were a little unsure of the arrangements but basically we got our drinks and then were given a table number so that we could select a table outside (they were very busy so booking in advance is very highly recommended) to wait for the waitress to tell us that we could go and get our lunch.
The garden is lovely and the views stunning, such a chilled out relaxing experience on a nice sunny October Sunday afternoon.
The selection of meats was very good as were the selections of vegetables and potatoes.
The food was delicious & the young lady behind the bar, that was so lovely every single time we spoke to her, booked us in for next Sunday as we were both so impressed.
We eat out every Sunday but one guess to where we will be eating on a Sunday from now on !
We also look forward to visiting for an evening meal.
A real gem of an eating establishment that we both very highly recommend.

“Good night out”

Visited with four friends as staying in the area. Good relaxed atmosphere with efficient & friendly service. All had different meals all of which were good & good value - standard pub meal prices. Well worth a visit.

“Lovely little pub and great grub”

As an alternative to the expense of eating at Rushton Hall this is just the perfect solution. A wide-ranging menu at very reasonable prices, and loads to eat so watch the calories! Highly recommended.

“We will be coming back”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 24, 2013

I disagree with Amadeus M's review: I don't think the Thornhill tries to dress itself up as a 'gastro pub' at all. It is a very pleasant country pub with home-cooked favourites and some more modern offerings as well. My husband and I were very impressed with our meal. We came here whilst staying at the Rushton Hall hotel near by. The mid week 3 course menu offer is amazing value. Portions are very generous and food was delicious and fresh. Good atmosphere and good selection of ciders, etc on the bar. We are coming back next time we stay at Rushton. I would recommend to ask for table in the lantern room.
