Me and my husband have just got back from colon 11 (we stayed for 2 weeks) and we both said we would go back again, we met lots of people that go back year after year. its right in the middle of everything. right next to the patch. please go to the full monty bar. biba and his team are great fun.

The sun longers round the pool are very comfy. (not used to that.) And the pool is lovely, very clean.

we stayed in an apartment. ground floor, pool view. ( very lucky) also very clean, the maids dont seem to stop.

If i had to say anything bad, it would only be that i think they really need air con, thay have got ceiling fans, but if you leave them on over night, you wake up with a very nasty bad throut.
we had a brand new plasma telly put in our room on our secound week. 15 euro's but you get 5 euro's back.

some times the noise is abit load when the young ones are coming back early in the morning.....But what the hell there on holiday too. (not that we are that old 40 lol)

I really hope this helps as i read all the reviews before i booked.

HAPPY HOLIDAY. KATRINA

i am a regular visitor to tenerife and holiday there about 6 times a year..... due to me not being able to get villa mandi for a full week i stopped here for nights and to be honest wish my full 8 days were here....

donrt get me wrong villa mando is great and im back in june with my family but these are the best ive come across in a central area and lets just say i have been to loads....

i was in room 226 which is on the side of the complex which overlloks a lane/walkway so away from any noise , booked studio and it was equiped with everything including a microwave and a toaster....

they even had radio switch in wall that actually worked

Poollside is a small area and at 11am in morning was suerprised in getting a sunbed.... in all years of going aboroad the sunbeds are the most comfortable i have ever lay on....

So all i would say to anyone looking in.... great place, spoltless, quiet and central

beds are a bit hard but as we all know every accomodation beds overseas are hard compared to home comforts

This hotel is a hidden gem, no wonder they have awards on the wall as you walk into reception.

Let me be clear: the people who gave this low marks had too high expectations. This hotel is a 3* (+) hotel for 1* prices. We paid 22 euros a night, and got amazing value in return.

As mentioned by others, it's exceptionally clean - and somewhat new as well, so you rarely see that damaged look you get in other hotels in the same bracket. No air con, but a ceiling fan which was enough for us even on the really hot days in May.

The hotel is nested away from the Av. Rafael Puig (pretty much the "High Street" in Las Americas), but you can still hear the bars at night if you leave your balcony door open. Not enough to be too distracting, but not idyllically quiet either. Yes, the doors slam in the hotel, and you can sometimes get loud neighbours - but for the most part the occupants were either of retirement age, or 30-something with young children.

If possible try and get a room poolside near to the back of the hotel, it's much quieter and less people pass your door at night.

The pool was as expected, very clean and unheated - perfect if you've been sunbathing all day and need to cool off. Plenty of sun loungers and umbrellas (however, I think we visited at a quiet time, your mileage may vary).

Food wise, the cafe and pool bar were ok. I think it was all connected to Mama Rosa, the sister restaurant which is attached to the hotel. We didn't try their food but it looked overpriced. I've never found food in Las Americas that good anyway.

We shopped almost exclusively at HiperDino and Spar supermarkets which were 2 blocks behind the hotel, both had English goods and ok local food (you wont have trouble finding anything pork/sausage related!). SolBank was actually next to the hotel, and you could get cash out using credit/debit cards.

Being a computer programmer, I couldnt be without the internet for too long. You can PAYG surf on their hotel computers (1 euro/half hour) or pay for a coffee in the cafe and surf on your phone/laptop.

I wouldn' t recommend this hotel for 18-30 clubbers, although you're nearby to Veronica's you'll stand out like a sore thumb if you come back at 4am shouting every night. We had one such group try this and we made sure the hotel staff new about it. Would recommend this to couples of any age, and possibly very young families if you intend to go out for food and entertainment.

All in all an excellent hotel, which we'll be returning too at some point in the future. Just dont expect 5 star all-inclusive treatment, but do expect a clean, convenient and friendly stay.

As an aside: rent a car to explore the rest of the island. Santa Cruz, Los Gigantes, Teide and the north coast are all in reach within an hour or two. La Gomera is just a short boat ride. Tenerife isn't just Las Americas! We used Record rent-a-car and it was the cheapest of the lot. Parking is available on Rafeal Puig, but only at night/early morning before it fills up. Dont trust explicity trust satnav either, they've relaid many of the roads and new roundabouts are illogical.

My partner and I stayed at Colon II for a week in the easter school holidays – we were just after some sun and relaxation. After reading so many rave reviews on here, I was a little bit disappointed with Colon II, but I think this was only because my expectations had been so high.

Good points:
- Very central location, so easy to get around: a couple of mins walk down to the beach; surrounded by all sorts of bars and restaurants; 5 minutes walk to Vernoicas (turn right out of apartments) if you fancy the loud nightlife.
- Cleaners always around and busy - very thorough cleaning of pool area every evening. A couple of times the maids came and made our room up/cleaned but didn't remove our rubbish, which was a bit odd...
- Reception helpful (and speedy check in/out) and there seemed to be good security.
- Mama Rosa, the restaurant on/adjoining Colon II's site was by far the best restaurant we found. It was more expensive than other places we ate but the food was far superior - the coeur de filet was absolutely beautiful.

Not so good points:
- Our room was right above the apartments' pub, which is open every evening (opens at 6 or 7pm, I think, and closes at midnight) and all day on Saturday, I think. The noise of the tv/music just boomed through into our room all the time the pub was open so if you wanted to go to bed before midnight, or fancied an early evening nap before going out, this would probably be an issue. It was for me! Take ear plugs if this is likely to bother you and it probably won't be too bad. Also, a small point, but all the internal doors slam very loudly, so you will probably be aware of other people going in and out of their apartments etc. We weren't, however, disturbed by any noise from the road, from other people inside their apartments, or by people in the pub though, which was good (and surprising, considering how many bars etc were nearby)
- Despite being given a list of rules from reception on check in, which included a rule that reserving sunbeds wasn't permitted, every morning at 8.45am (pool area opens at 9am) there were herds of people with towels chomping at the bit to secure their sunbeds – and many didn't then actually occupy them until midday. Very annoying when you go out fairly early and there's nowhere to go as there's just a sea of towels on all the beds. If you can get a sunbed, the pool area is ok but it can feel a bit cramped (and could get quite noisy if there were lots of kids) - we found it nicer and more relaxed at the far end (the opposite end to the pool bar).

Playa de las Americas was as I expected – pretty busy, lots of families, lots of Brit bars, loads of people trying to get you into their bars/restaurants (some far more persistent than others!), cabaret galore... It's not somewhere I'd go in peak summertime, and most of the entertainment and nightlife isn't really for me, but slightly off-season (albeit it in easter holidays) it was fine for what we wanted ie a relaxing break in the sun in a resort that wasn't too quiet, which some places are at that time of year.

I probably would return to Tenerife for a not-too-expensive winter/spring break, because the weather's so good at that time of year in the Canaries and Tenerife seems to be a bit cheaper than the other islands. If I stayed in Playa de las Americas again, I would definitely consider Colon II again as it does the job. But it is what it is – a decent 3 star apartment complex in a good, central location, which seems to be reasonable value for money (I booked through First Choice) But don't expect it to knock your socks off in terms of style or comfort etc.

When we read all of the reviews on this place we thought we couldn't go wrong - everyone loved it.

In reality what you get is not a 4 star apartment but a decent 3 star apartment in a good central location.

The place is slap bang in the middle of Playa de Las Americas so you won't need a car or taxi most of the time. Good job as parking is very scarce. Location is great if you want to be in the thick of things. Having said that the complex is monitored by CCTV so is relatively secure. There are hundreds of restaurants on your doorstep and the ones adjacent to Colon II are very good.

The only issue we found was noise coming from the street up to 6am with people heading home. Because of the heat you need to keep windows open so you hear everything.

The pool area is not huge and at 9am every morning when the pool opens there is a stampede for beds. Bear in mind we were there during a quiet month but by 9.10am every decent bed and umbrella has been taken. So much for not allowing sunbeds to be reserved! If you do manage to get a bed later don't expect an umbrella and the pool area can get quite crowded.

The complex is clean and yes there are cleaners constantly on the go. But also this is not a new complex and a few areas are starting to show their age although it has to be said it is very well maintained.

The pool bar serves great snacks and is reasonably priced but the English waitress we got most days was instantly unlikeable and abrupt, if not rude to most customers. Spanish staff were better and helpful.

Our two-bed apartment was on the fourth (top) floor. Living area and bedrooms were decent size and simply furnished although as usual beds were rock hard. The terrace area however was tiny. It was probably only 6 feet wide running along the side of the apartment with a high wall separating you from the next apartment. No good for sunbathing and a drain at the balcony gave off enough of a smell to put you off sitting outside or even standing on the balcony. The apartment has ceiling fans but no air conditioning so will get very hot in summer.

The bathroom is to say the least, compact and very easy to bang yourself on the door handle as you squeeze in and out. The shower varies between ice cold and boiling no matter what the setting and water pressure is poor. There was also a drainy smell when using the shower.

There is a TV in the room which is coin operated and a safe in the wardrobe. We used this as on the first night a few things had mysteriously changed position in our room while we were out.

All in all, decent basic accommodation in a busy central location but don't expect luxury.

first time we have stayed in these apartments, even though been to the island on many occasions. absolutley first class hotel. staff, cleanliness was spot on. staff couldnt do enough for you. there is only one way in and one way out through reception, so the security is brilliant. however, you do have to get up at 8.30am to get to the pool for a sunbed when the pool opens at 9.00am. definately stay there again. only down fall is there is no entertainment in hotel.

Overall, a very nice place to stay. Rooms clean, spacious, well laid out. In the room a safe in avaialble for 25 euros (u get 10 back on departure), u can watch tv for 1 euro an hour(!)...they have bbc 1/2, bbc news etc. Pool area was also kept nice, plenty of sunbeads, although a bit of a dash when the pool opens at 9am to get an umbrella! They could do with a few more of these. Also a nice bar/cafe situated poolside....reasonable prices.
Location is very good. 3 min walk to the beach, 3 min walk to Veronicas Strip (where the tacky nightlife is), but the best thing is you wouldnt realise you were so close to everything as its really quiet!
A couple of minor nags (they are minor really, wouldnt be british if didnt complain about something!). The doors all seem to slam when shut, even if you try and close properly. Not a prob during day, but when you want a bit of sleep and someone comes in at 2am you will be woken by their door closing. Also, the walls are not that thick. We had 2 fools next to us for one night that decided to sing loudly at 7am for some unkown reason...we could hear them well. If you are next to people with a normal volume there shouldnt be an issue. Beds not the most comfortable but we've had worse.
So, overall i'd say this is a good place to stay. Will be recommending to my (fussy) friends and family.
