“Fantastic Holiday”
Reviewed December 23, 2011

Booked as a late deal and found that the apartments were very clean and tidy the maids came every day except Wednesday and provided clean towels. The kitchen had everything needed for a self catering holiday. We paid 40 Euros for a safe and card for the TV for my daughter and you get 15 Euros back when you leave i gave me peace of mind and kept my daughter entertained when we wern't out! The pool is small but clean we found that alot of people went out early in the morning and put towels on the sunbeds but you could always find somewhere to sit. The reception and coffee bar staff were helpful and friendly as were the pool bar staff. The apartments are centrally located and supermarkets and restaurants close by.

Room Tip: We stayed in a room which had a balcony and overlooked the pool. It had no sun all day but that coul...

we have just returned from a week in tenerife, and these apartments were really good value. they were clean and spacious. We even got our own terrace complete with sun loungers, so wouldnt have needed to leave our apartment if we didnt want to. Staff are all very helpful, cleaners friendly and funny, didnt eat at the restaurants associated with it because there was so much choice elsewhere, my only whinge if you could call it that is the pool, ultra clean, but very basic, and the kids were less than impressed with the pool. Beds were made every day, beds were a little firm for our liking but we still slept really well on them, and there wasnt any significant noise or disturbances at night time.

My husband and I stayed at Colon II Apartments for a week from 30 Oct 11. We chose these apartments mainly due to the good reviews. On arrival in the afternoon the receptionist was quite friendly and we got booked into our room (122) which was a corner room on the ground floor. When we walked in the room was dark and I wasn’t happy with being on the ground floor due to security issues. As it was mid afternoon we thought we would see what the room was like the next day. On the way out the receptionist asked if we liked the room but I said no but was told there weren’t any rooms available to move into.

The next morning (Mon) the room was still dark and I went to the reception to see if we could move rooms. I explained I didn't want to be on the ground floor but was offered another room on the ground floor with a pool view (106) but it wouldn't be available until the Wed. I said we were willing to accept a studio as long as the room was off the ground floor but we were told if we had booked a 1 bed apartment we had to move to another 1 bed apartment. We accepted the room, not because of the pool view as we went to the beach every day but because we knew the room would be brighter. On leaving reception we went to the welcome brief at 1000hrs; there was us and another couple there for the brief and because the other couple had ordered breakfast the Rep came and sat on our table to do the welcome brief, well if you can call it that. As we told her we had been to Tenerife before she just asked if we had any questions, gave us our Green Banana card and left. Yeah we have been before but that was in Mar 09 and things change so it would have been nice for her to have done the welcome brief. I mentioned to the Rep about us wanting to move rooms and she said ask on the Tues as that is a day when most people go home. We didn't bother asking and decided to wait until the Weds. The Rep was due to fly home on the Weds so basically I don’t think she could be bothered.

During our stay we asked to hire an iron and ironing board and the irony was the iron had a built in light!! Did they know we were in a 'cave' so thought the help of a light would be of assistance?

On the Weds we got to reception at 1300hrs to collect the keys but the room wasn't ready as it was still being cleaned so we went to the bar and every now and I again I would walk to the room to see if the cleaner had left and when I went back at 1430hrs the receptionist said they had been to our room to let us know it was ready but we weren’t in. She made out it had been ready for ages seeing as though by now we had been waiting for 1½ hours but I knew this wasn’t true as I had been popping to check. This particular receptionist was the same one that greeted us on arrival but she certainly changed her attitude during the process of us moving rooms. Even the door man on reception on a night time wasn’t friendly, you go to smile or say hello and you don’t get any response back.

What amazed us was on collection of the keys we were told we had to pay 25 Euros for the move and we said how come the receptionist at the time when we asked to move rooms didn't mention this nor did the Rep but then again the Rep (Lesley) was more interested in going home. Not once when booking with Thomson have we had to pay to move rooms (we always seem to get horrible rooms) so we were not happy about this. The way we see it, the rooms advertised on the tour operator’s web site should be the room that you are allocated or for all the rooms to be shown so at least you know you might end up in a horrible room.

The room we moved into was lovely and exactly like the one advertised on the web site so our original room should have been cheaper as it was just horrible. The location of the apartments was ok, about a 20 minute walk to the beach every day which we didn't mind and even though Colon II is on a main road you can't hear any noise once inside the complex which is good. It also stated that bedding and towels got changed every few days but even though we moved rooms mid week our towels were only changed once and the beds didn't even get that.

If you want something to watch whilst having your breakfast then sit on your balcony and just before 9am the queues start to form, people ready to run and claim a sun lounger. Even the cleaners/pool maintenance man hadn’t finished their jobs people are itching to get past the no entry sign. Obviously people can’t read as it does state you can’t reserve a sun lounger but we saw it, towels put down, then the person will sit there for about 5 minutes to make it look like they are sun bathing and then off they trot ready to come back hours later. How sad, people blame the Germans for doing this but they were British and you should be ashamed of yourselves!!

On another note every morning around 6.30am you could hear a child out on the balcony shouting so that woke us up every morning, we didn’t have to bother with an alarm clock! I understand kids wake up early and get bored and need something to keep them amused but why didn't the parent/s keep the child inside until a reasonable time?

Overall we were disappointed about the apartments and did wonder why everyone raved about them on Trip Advisor.

We have already booked our holiday in Tenerife for June 2012 staying at Parque Santiago III which will be our 2nd time staying there and 3rd time in Tenerife and if anybody wants some help with choosing an apartment to stay in then we recommend these as we loved our time staying here but people are different so they might not suit everyone. If you get a room facing the main road then I suggest you ask for a move before you even unpack as yes we got a horrible room the 1st time around and it can be quite noisy in a morning as you have the dust bins getting emptied and with the restaurants and shops underneath the complex you get the noise from very early in a morning with staff dragging out tables and shop keepers bringing out their stalls so it keeps you awake.

We definitely won’t be staying at Colon II again as it wasn’t for us but people want different things from a holiday so it may suit others.

Room Tip: Room 106 ground floor had pool view but no sunshine. Room 122 ground floor corner room very dark, n...

We read all the reviews for this complex and thought we were lucky to be going there. There are two parts to colon 11 and it did seem the older apartments on the opposite side of the pool had decent balconies and shade as well.

We booked a two bedroomed apartment for the two of us, in order to guarantee a good sized balcony as this is important to us. However it was the smallest balcony you can imagine, 1.8 width and it was totally closed in by walls on each side. The balcony was not on the front of the apartment but on the side of the building as the apartment is loft space and the windows in the apartment in the lounge and bedroom are dormer windows At first I thought there must be another as we were near the end of the run, but there was nothing. Apartment 403, was dark and dingy, thankfully very clean, but this is not an apartment for four or more adults, There is simply not enough space. This is not a self catering apartment really, it is an old style hotel room with a tiny kitchen that consists of a two ringed hob to cook on. You could not self cater in this apartment. There was no toaster, we were told they are being replaced by sandwich toasters, you could not even hire one, (you could hire a tom tom though) this is a basic in any kitchen. The beds were very hard and the pillows just as hard. There was no softness to this apartment at all. In contrast our son stayed at the La Pinta complex in a two bedroomed apartment which was excellent and we spent quite a bit of time there as there was a lovely view and the balcony and apartment were really bright and welcoming. Cooking facilities were very good, we will certainly look at these apartments for our next trip.

On a positive note the cafe situated on the front of the building of Colon 11 is excellent with a good selection of coffee, cocktails and snacks. mama Rosa's the on site restaurant is first class, lovely setting, excellent food and service, in fact a little gem!

Room Tip: do not use room 403, worst balcony ever for a two bedroomed apartment. I urge all travellers to chec...

Booked via Thomson website, got a great deal at £40 per night for a 2 bed apartment. Great location, 2 bed apartments are on top floor so no noise from anyone above. Balcony was a little small but lounge and kitchen area was great.
We were concerned it would be noisy at night due to location but it wasn't. Short stroll to restaurants, pubs, beach and shops.
Had to pay extra for TV, but got UK channels.
All hotel kept very clean, lunch at cafe was lovely, it was made in Mamma Rosa kitchens.
Reception very helpful and quick check in.
Free WiFi in reception area.
Be aware, but not put off ....
Pool view rooms/balconies are in the shade all day.
You have to be on the ball in the morning to get sunbeds in the sun all day.
No air con, but ceiling fans..... could be very hot in mid summer.

Room Tip: Pool view rooms are in the shade but have great views of mountains, pool and sea. If you have 2 bed...

Just returned from the Colon II again, cannot say enough about these apartments and the staff, the only improvement was we had a studio instead of a 2-bed apartment and we found for us it was even better, had a bigger balcony and a great view of the pool. The staff are definately faultless, and couldnt do more to help.
