“Nice and relaxing holiday”
Reviewed March 10, 2013

We arrived at the hotel missing a suitcase which had been exchanged with another people at the airport. We travelled with Thompson and they took care of it, within a couple hours we had the suitcase back again.
The overall holiday was really good, the food was ok, good variation, and lots of it. You couldn't go hungry to bed. The pool bar was open practically all day, which was great.
The spa was one of the best things there, we were at the marylanza for two weeks. for one week we bought a week pass for the spa and gym.
Overall a good stay

We just came back from a week at the Marylanza and had such a wonderful time we'll be going back there next year.

I stayed with my wife and 2 kids (5 and 3) and my parents in February 2013. We had 2 suites, each one bedroom with a living room, mini kitchen and balcony. Thankfully, the hotel put us next to each other, so we were able to treat it almost like a single apartment.

The location suited us perfectly - about halfway between Cristianos and Americas, say 15 min walk to either beach, but set back on the golf course so very quiet at night. If you're looking for nightlife, probably not for you. The hotel is very tastefully designed and looks more like a villa than a mass-market hotel. It is generally in a very good state of repair - the rooms were lovely.

We were all inclusive, and I was surprised at the quality and variety of the food - always a good selection of fruit and vegetables, as well as changing main courses. There are snacks by the pool bar all day, but that's mainly pretty grim looking burgers and pizzas. There's an a la carte restaurant as well, but we didn't bother as the buffet was more than good enough.

The pool areas are very nice - plenty of sunloungers, clean, not too crowded even in half term week. The kids' pool and the unheated adults' pool were pretty cold in Feb. My kids didn't mind, but it was too cold for me. The heated pool is warm, but consequently more crowded.

The staff were incredibly helpful - whether at reception, in the dining hall or the cleaning staff.

The kids' club is only half an hour a day, and isn't up to much, but they do a disco in the evening which was excellent.

There is free WIFI, but it only works at reception and occaisionally by the pool.

All in all, if you need a lot of entertaining, this might not be for you - there isn't much in the hotel, and it's a walk from bars and restaurants. If you want somewhere peaceful, of a good standard, but reasonably close to the action I don't think there's a better place.

Room Tip: We had 2 external rooms on the west side - it means you have a view of the road rather than the pool...

We were all inclusive but this was for the usual local drinks. The "real" spirits are also discounted for all inclusive.

The entertainment was adequate and all the staff were courteous and polite during our stay.

If you like walking this Hotel is a 15 minute walk to Los Cristianos one way, and a 15 minute walk to Playa las Americas.

I could not fault the variety and quality of food in the main restaurant. You can also book the Kentia Restaurant once if you want served, the food and service are superb.

They have the most up to date Gym and Fitness Centre with classes like spinning and abdominales, aquafit etc. The price for a day membership is 6 euros including the classes. So if you have a dull day then you can go there. If you do not like the Gym go to the Spa.

If you are a golfer it is quite expensive, if you have 18 holes, hire clubs and a buggy then this can cost you up to £125.

The rooms are spacious with lots of room. We were in the Drago on the 1 st Floor overlooking the golf course but could not see it for the shrubes. I would recommend that you book the second floor in order to get a better view.

There are two main pools, one heated. There was a mixture of couples and famies there but you can always find a quiet spot away fom the children to read your book.

You have to pay a deposit for your towels, but you get this back when you leave.

We will definetly be back.

Room Tip: Always go for a second floor apartment facing the golf course.

We stayed at Marylanza on all inclusive basis for half term w/c 8th Feb. On arrival we were slightly disappointed with our room, as it overlooked the road, and although had a suite, with a seperate bedroom for us and lovely balconey, we felt it wouldn't offer the relaxing holiday we were intending. The reception staff were great, offered another room on the golf course side, although on the first floor, so we were unable to see the golf course. But we understand that those with a view are at an additional rate anyway. Much quieter and hubby admitted probably a good thing not overlooking, as he would be pining for his clubs! We were really impressed with the hotel in general. The buffet restaurant was truly excellent, the food was of a really high standard, omelettes and eggs cooked exactly as you wanted at breakfast, even cava if you wanted it. Chicken and fish cooked in front of you at lunch and dinner, and generally a really varied selection, meats, different paellas, salads, pasta, lovely fresh breads and cheeses. Even the pool bar food was of the same high standard- fresh pizza, pasta, hot dogs, burgers and toasted sadwiches. The all inclusive drinks, particularly the beer, wine baileys, and gin were as good as the named brands for sure. Our 6 year old son particularly liked the slush puppy machine which he was able to help himself to! The heated pool went down a storm with our 8 year old, who pretty much stayed in it the whole time. The spa was great, we had plans to pay for us both for a week, but only problem is kids under 14 not allowed in, so made do with one session for 15 euros which was fine. Also good was that you were all inclusive right up until the point you left, so we were able to eat in the restaurant for lunch just before boarding the coach. Not offered by many I understand! Only small disppointment was in winter months no Thompson kids club, which would have let us both enjoy the spa at the same time! although some pool games for half an hour or so. In conclusion we had exactly the holiday we wanted so would definitely still highly recommend..

Room Tip: I would pay more next time and get a room overlooking the beautiful golf course.

To start with the Marylanza is a good to great hotel. It is exceptionally clean, the food is of a high standard and wide choice, the staff are exceptional and it’s in a sunny part of the world what more would you want. Well it seems a lot if you read some of the reviews on this site, hopefully I can balance some of those concerns from a customer point of view.

Valuable Safe – You either pay for one as an increase in the overall holiday cost which to some people would make it ‘free’ or you have the option. It’s the same difference – Get a grip!!
Safety – Things get stolen where ever you are however I found the Marylanza to an extremely safe environment. But if you leave your room insecure or don’t protect your valuables you may offer an opportunistic thief a chance like you would in any hotel. Trouble is people on holiday seem to let their guard down and change their perspective in a way they wouldn’t at home. If I stayed at a friend’s house, I left his front door open and had my keys and car stolen, I wouldn’t blame my friend - Get it!!
One Tripadvisor Rating – Pathetic!! Nothing is a rating of one unless everything was unacceptable, not just one incident/aspect that someone got all upperty about. Most of these people (UK) seem to have remained for the holiday and only whinged when they got back. Maybe some anger management is what is needed. Get a life!!
Reception Staff – All the reception staff that I had contact with were professional and approachable. Perhaps because the staff are not English and most of the complainants seem to be UK residents, maybe it is just cultural differences? Just because the staff don’t tug their forelock at every opportunity and don’t possess the subtle nuances of ‘sucking up’ doesn’t mean that they are being rude. Get more EU!!
4* - Not sure how to quantify this other than to say it is a quality hotel. 4* all-inclusive complex is not really comparable to 4* hotel, but the Marylanza does the All-inclusive very well. It isn’t exclusively all-inclusive and I would say as a standalone hotel it doesn’t have a 4* feel because of it’s relaxed environment, but as an complete package it is quality and does satisfy the 4 star rating criteria offered on Wikipedia. Get a room!!

I would give the Marylanza 7/10 but think it could achieve higher with a little tweaking. Yes I had a couple of concerns but I have contacted to the Director General/Manager directly and his reply is encouraging. My personal opinion is that the Hotel is more suited to families, but we as a couple had an extremely relaxing break. Everyone is different and everyone requires different things, you cannot please everyone 100% but maybe you shouldn’t attack just because you don’t have the ability or patience to be constructive.

Room Tip: Rooms/Balconies with Golf Course view do not get sun at any time of day but has lovely volcanic rock...

Just returned after two weeks, AI. Staff could not be more welcoming and sooooooo helpful. Nicole the Head Receptionist is a "Diamond" !!! Should be in line for a Manger/Director post, as very dedicated and hard working. (Thanks Nicole for your excellent customer service).
Had room/suite overlooking golf course, which was extra cost, but well worth it, as lovely views, shady, and most important to us quiet. Pillows are a bit lumpy. And no grips for safety in bath.
Food excellent, and pools clean and plenty of beds, parasols etc.
Weather was amazing, and have a great tan.
Spa, brilliant, we both joined and had some great treatments, and pool spa fab !!
I would recommend this Hotel for families, as cater for them completely.
A little way out from sea for me, (10/15 min walk), but taxis cheap and easy to get.
Well done Marylanza, we will return.

Room Tip: Pay extra for golf courseview room, which is quiet and shady. E207 was perfect for us.
