“Very well run hotel”
Reviewed January 1, 2012

We had a party of eight with two children. We had a great time. Very friendly staff. Dana the entertainments co-ordinator was great with the kids. Food was excellent. All good. Played golf. Nice course but very expensive. Cost us over £100 each with the hotel discount. There seemed to be a lot of customers who had stayed before which is always a good sign. The kids meal in the Kentia restaurant was poor. Just chicken nuggets and chips so we had to go back to the excellent buffet restaurant to get them some healthy food.

We have just returned from a 14 day holiday over xmas at the Marylanza. The resort is amazing, accomodation is lovely, meets all your needs as a family, pool is lovely, food is excellent, spa is fabulous. Only negative comment to make is the atmosphere at the evening entertainment. The entertainment does not operate on Tuesdays or Sundays so on these days you either have to leave the hotel or remain in the lobby bar listening to keyboard music, great as we had a big crowd of us but not so great when you are looking for a little bit more. Also the entertainment when held is only for 30 minutes and immediately after everyone gets up and leaves - why I do not know ????? But on the whole the hotel is fab. All the staff are very welcoming and polite, the pool area and hotel in general is spotlessly clean - and I have high standards !!! The food is very good, buffet restaurant for breakfast, lunch & dinner and a pool bar with buffet for all inclusive guests throughout the day 10am - 6pm with self service drinks - including beer. Good variety of food cooked to a high standard with something for everyone at all meals, the pizza's are to die for - this coming from someone who does not even like pizza is a massive compliment. Met some amazing people during our stay - big thank you to you guys and we are already ready to book to return again. The weather for the whole 2 weeks was amazing, not a cloud in the sky and scorching everyday - Thank you Marylanza for an amazing holiday, we loved your resort and cant wait to come back xxx

Room Tip: Tip: Many reviews tell you to avoid the road side and book a golf view - DONT, we stayed roadside, i...

We try to provide our guests with a quality entertainment programme, including shows and other activities at least 5 days per week. When the disco is not open we then have the lobby bar available with a guitarist, pianist or something similar. As this review states the street-view rooms happen to be the sunniest ones, and since the road in front of us is not especially busy, they are preferred by many of our repeat guests. Other people prefer to enjoy the beautiful golf-course views or any of the rooms to the side of the hotel: obviously no option is better or worse than the other, this will depend on each one's priorities and preferences.

We spent one week at Marylanza in early December with two families with several children. Overall a very nice experience, service throughout the complex is top-notch (including reception - special thanks to Theresa, restaurant, etc), rooms very clean and in good condition as well as the pool areas.

The location was much better than expected. We've stayed earlier in the very center of Americas and thought Marylanza would be far off - however it was an easy walking distance (even with small children) to American and Los Christinos (even on the same walking trip).

We stayed all inclusive and the food was excellent at breakfast, lunch and dinner - however, as expected, slightly repetitive by the end of the week, at least it was noticeable that some ingredients were used (re-used?) for several caterings but obviously with good hygienic standards as nobody in our group experienced any problems regarding food.

Special thanks for the management to follow-up on the tripadvisor comments - shows that they're interested in the customer feedback and continuous improvement of the service!

After deciding on a holiday to Tenerife the Marylanza looked like the idylic hotel to be staying in on our holiday as a couple...
We flew out with the intention of a couples holiday for our engagement, the hotel upgraded us to a golf view suite when hearing of our engagement which was fantastic, the room was huge! and had two stories! The hotel over all was very clean, the staff were friendly but on the otherhand Thompsons did advise us this was a couples hotel which it was far from, there were loooads of children and the entertainment everynight seemed purley for the children (discos and a childrens entertainer everynight we were there), sunbeds were near impossible to come accross unless you got up at the crack of dawn and laid their till the sun came up! The pool bar was not open on a night so if you wanted to drink your drinks outside its quite a journey to the bar and back.
If I were to go back to Tenerife i would never again stop in Las Americas this hotel is lovely but the area its in lets it down it is also a good 15-20 min walk into las americas itself, The main strip of bars was a little dirty and came alongside alot of hassle from PR's to come in the pubs, a peaceful walk and look around came as a little struggle. We mostly ended up getting taxis to the nicer ends of the Island.

I would recommed a visit into the spa and the turkish bath as this was amazing and discounted for your first visit.

Overall the hotel has its good points and its bad points it was a lovely visit but would probably not return for a second visit as if be heading for the top end of the island!

Room Tip: Specify if your going for a special occasion (engagement, honeymoon etc...) We got an upgrade withou...

We stayed for 1 week at the beginning of December. Lovely clean hotel, nice friendly staff who could not do enough for you. However, the dining room, in our opinion, was really very dismal with no ambience at all albeit the food was really good and plentiful but had no real appeal to us because of the dismal place you had to eat in. We did really enjoy our complimentary meal in the Kentia Restaurant which was absolutely superb. We ate out 3 of the 7 nights which is not really the idea when on all inclusive but to get good quality food with a nice place to eat it gave us no other option. We did not expect that there would be so many young noisy children screaming their way through meal times and for this reason we will not be visiting this hotel again ; I would definitely recommend the hotel to people with young families. Location was very good ; a nice quiet area and only 10-15 mins walk into the busy shops, bars and restaurants.

I am sad to see that clients with a general good impression of the hotel would not return, but I understand that a hotel with children (and it is true that sometimes we have lots of them, but this is beyond our control) may not be suitable for everyone. Regarding the restaurant, the fact of it being buffet-style and having to accomodate and serve a large amount of clients at once makes it very difficult to combine a good service and at the same time create a very cozy ambience. Considering this I find that a really good job was done when it was designed and decorated, and, in any case, far from being dismal. At our Kentia restaurant the concept is totally different and therefore the combination of service and timing allowed a very comfortable and elegant atmosphere, which has been greatly appreciated by these and other clients.

We went with another couple for 1 week during November knowing nothing about this place but really expecting a restful, quiet break as outlined on Thompson's website. My wife suffered from food-poisoning on only the second day and spent almost 2 days in bed. The rest of us all had upset tummies which meant we were unable to go too far from the hotel because of the constant need to be near the toilet! Asking around, we were not the only ones suffering from tummy upsets that week. Other gripes we had about this place were there were far more young children about than we expected - nothing against children but these were mostly very young ones who tended to cry alot during our mealtimes and also when we were trying to relax around the pools. Evening entertainment was particularly poor in quality and the main bar- which was actually situated in the main reception lobby of the hotel - really lacked any atmosphere. One other point to note - the pool bar/ snack bar was very popular with the pigeons who were very keen on walking on and around the tables where food etc. was laid out for self service - not very hygienic methinks! On the plus side, the rooms were excellent, very spacious and clean and all the staff were very helpful. As for location, it was a bit of a walk to get anywhere but taxis were quite cheap. All in all, very disappointing - as we told our Thompson Rep. and I don't think we will be going back there again.

As I mentioned in a previous reply to another review there has been no food poisoning in our hotel, it was confirmed by the hospital and tour-operators that none of the cases were severe and that they were due to a virus brought from Northern Europe which was affecting many other hotels in Tenerife with clients of that origin. The configuration of the snack-bar will be completely changed in order to improve the service and avoid the current situation with the pigeons, which we agree is not ideal but is not easy to prevent either.

Just arrived back from the marylanza, we had a great time with no complaints we thought all the staff were friendly and helpful, there are no broken sunbeds all been replaced with new ones and we never had a problem getting a bed. The reviews about the children at the hotel I have to agree and say there are quite a lot of children there but we never had any reason to complain about them we were just surprized there are so many because we did not think there was very much for them there, I would'nt take a child there it is much more of an adult hotel. The only reason I have not given this hotel an excellent is because when we arrived we were told the hotel was overbooked and we were ASKED not told that if we went to another hotel for 1 night we would get a better room, we had requested a pool view on a high floor and also free room safe and free spa all week, I was surprized when my hubby agreed and took up the offer, this hotel was supposed to be a 4 star but there is no way it can be classed as a 4 star for one thing they put us in a room no bigger than a broom cupboard the place was dark and grubby but as I said they asked us it was our choice, but my gripe with it really is we met and befriended a few couples that had arrived from the same flight as us but they did not get asked and were given the room they requested either golf course or pool view so I was a bit miffed. We did get a free bottle of bubbly when we eventually got our room the following day. The food is good we never had a complaint about that, the breakfasts were the best as there was so much choice , the hotel is very clean as were the pools, and restaurant and the rooms cleaned daily , we would be happy to stay there again.

Room Tip: we were in f block and had a pool view which we preferred and did not experience any noise.

As I mentioned in a reply earlier, when we unfortunately do get in an overbooking situation (which we try our hardest to avoid) we prefer to “create” a very attractive deal and offer it voluntarily, so that whoever decides to accept will get something in return as a reward to his/her cooperation. The motto for this procedure is “you help us with the overbooking, we help you adding extra upgrades to your stay for free, and since it is agreed and voluntary, we all are happy”. I regret that they felt a bit upset, for this is not the intention and philosophy of this concept; as a matter of fact we reserved the best rooms available on the following day for those participating, and from these particular clients’ comments I understand that they were extremely happy with it upon return, so the goal was achieved for both parties. If you are a flexible person you might be interested in accepting this kind of offers and receive free upgrades and services to enhace your holiday experience.
