“Not a hotel you'd want to get dropped off at!”
Reviewed September 12, 2012

Me and my other half booked Udalla Park mainly because of it's price and location, basing it on the fact it was close to a hotel we had stayed at in June which was ideal, but unavailable for our dates. We'd read reviews about ants, noisy nights, and all that jazz, but decided that some people are just fussy so we would see for ourselves.

We arrived at Tenerife airport around 21:00 so it was dark when we got there, on departure by shuttle bus for our transfer we approached the familiar Las Americas. You always joke about hoping not to be dropped off at unattractive hotels, but when we arrived outside Udalla, our names were called and my heart sank from the shock. You can't judge a book by it's cover, so we decided not to knock it until we tried it. As I have problems with my ankles, it was a major first factor that it wasn't anywhere near where we stayed before, and quite a distance, but hoped we could overcome this once inside the hotel.

Staff:
The attendant at the desk was probably the only positive I could quote while here as she was very lovely and welcoming, and also very knowledgeable about their on site facilities.

Room:
The reception area was still nothing to go by as it seemed about the same attractiveness as the exterior,so we hauled our luggage upstairs to our room and on entry there was an instant smell of uncleanliness. The room was like a sauna which, on searching, offered no air conditioning which I thought would be standard in the hot climate of Tenerife.

The apartment had a bedroom, bathroom, kitchen area, balcony and roof terrace (which would be nicer if it was more private). There was thick dust over the TV, stains on the bed covers, and hairs from previous guests in on the sheets which made us both cringe.

To be honest we both knew right away that we'd be unhappy here, but would be unable to do anything until the morning so we (attempted to) get a nights sleep. As the room was so hot, I opened the balcony door, but due to the hotel being on a main road, there was masses of noise from passing cars, late nighters and motorbikes. I put up with this for so long, and couldn't take any more so I shut the door and we both slept in boiling temperatures.

The following day we were in touch with Easyjet who could not move us to another hotel until the following night, but we were not staying here another night so decided to find a nicer, closer to town hotel off our own backs.

Ants and spiders!!!!:
We had left some crossoints in sealed packaging, and some snacks which were also sealed on the kitchen worktop for about an hour, when going to pack them up, we'd found an infestation of hundreds of micro ants had got into everything! This tipped us over the edge and we wanted to get out of here as soon as we could.

We were about to leave, and my partner picked up her suitcase in the bedroom to find that it was swarming with tiny money spiders (not happy as she has a fear of them).
We checked out of the hotel and explained the situation, what a relief, we walked out, found a new hotel, and never returned thankfully!

I'm not a fussy person by any means, but the four negatives were; the 15 minute walk to get to the hotel we'd stayed in previously, then another 15 minutes into the town centre. The noise at night was a big one, the air conditioning, and the ants and spiders topped it off.

I realise many people have had a great experience here, so it may depend on the room, and how far people are willing/able to walk.

Room Tip: Don't bother asking for a rooftop room to sunbathe, there wan't much difference to laying by...

My partner and i stayed here from 1st July 2012 for 4 nights. The Udalla park is in a nice location friendly staff, clean but basic room, stayed here self catering and glad we did,as just down the road a lovely bar/cafe called Bitacora's( Ema's Bar).
Owned and run by a fabulous couple where nothing was to much trouble and food very good and reasonably priced.

My boyfriend and I stayed at this hotel in December 2011, for the week before christmas. The receptionists were very friendly and helpful, for example recommending the cheapest supermarkets and always doing their best to help. The location was excellent, with less than a 5 minute walk to the beach and this was the main playa de las americas beach, you passed through the marble paved shopping centre to get there.
The room was a bit tired, our door on to the balcony stuck and there was no english channels on the TV, self catering equipment was limited and there were a few ants around, but this did not really bother us as there was so many amazing cheap restaurants around. Also ask for a top floor as we had a spiral staircase leading up to a private roof terrace! The hotel pool was freezing, but we spent most days on the beach anyway. Rooms were cleaned and towels changed most days except for one when we were in our room so the maid missed it out- we made sure we were out after that! But reception were happy to swap our towels and give us a spare toilet roll.
DO NOT GO TO ABEERDEEN STEAKHOUSE- it is a complete rip off and rubbish service, we were persuaded by the cheap 3 course meal offer, but they charge about 10 euro per drink and also you have to pay for bread you did not even want or order, and they keep you waiting 40 minutes before they even take a drinks order, we saw plenty of people leaving this place looking very unhappy or even in tears! There was a lovely restaurant just down the road from this though, whic also has a set price set menu, lovely food and great quality we went here most nights! Look out for the man outside this restaurant warning you not to visit aberdeen steakhouse and come into his restaurant, this is the truth and well worth it, not just a ploy to get you into his restaurant as we thought on the first night when we walked past him!
Overall this was an excellent holiday, we would definately return to this hotel!!

Room Tip: Ask for a top floor room, you get a private roof terrace!!

We stayed at Udalla Park after last minute change of hotel. Location is excellent for Los Cristianos and Las Americas. Hotel towels changed everyday apart from Sunday & Thursday. Bed made but not changed (only once a week). The rooms are very basic but liveable. Little ants in the cupboard with dishes and glasses but no more than you would get at home. You can get toaster, kettle and hairdryer for a refundable 20 euro deposit. If you get top floor at Udalla it's fab for naked sunbathing. Staff were excellent & very pleasant. Can't comment on the food as we never ate in the restaurant - we stayed self catering but the cooking utensils, pans and cutlery quite poor but if you've ever been camping sure you will manage. It is a budget Hotel but you only get what you pay for and i would recommend it to anyone. We were left by transfer company at the front of the hotel and the receptionist was brill - she kept ringing for uis and we eventually got picked up and just made the flight home. There is row of bars at the back of parq de la paz were we met some good people and got seriously hammered. Try a pint of local beer Alambra in Lady Daze. We had the best cocktails in Bar Thirteen near to Veronicas, very classy bar if you want somewere good to eat and drink.

We didn't venture much to Veronicas due to getting to the 40 mark in our lives. There are lots of great places to eat and drink. Overall had a fab stay at Udalla and we are planning to stay again next April.

Room Tip: Front of hotel on the top floor with private sunbathing area. Although there was a lot of traffic a...

We went here for a relaxing holiday and this hotel was perfect. It was clean and the staff were friendly. The room was much better than expected for the price. It was quite quiet and there was always space by the pool. 5 minute walk to the beach, 10 minute walk to the busy nightlife.
It looked like all of the rooms had balconies and the ones on the top floor has sunroofs as well.

We didn't try the food at the restaurant, but were told it was €6 for breakfast and €9 for dinner.
