“basic, but clean”
Reviewed April 1, 2008

optomist was basic but clean when we arrived - and kept clean .Think maid service is 5 times week. great patio area, good size apt ,with two good size bedrooms, nice clean bathroom ,fridge toaster kettle and hob and plenty of towels. At reception they had reserved us a second floor apt but we had a buggy and theres no lift so the lady got us a first floor apt no trouble.you can hire fans and irons at reception and buy water cigarettes and chocolate there.nice pool area to. the only thing was on arrival there was dead cockroach on patio, then next morning another one at front door so went and bought cucal spray which did the trick coz never seen another one. would stay again armed with cucal!

  • Liked — great location, cheap and clean. near to beach and pubs and restaurants.
  • Disliked — the two cockroaches

Hotel basic but with everything you need, quiet at this time of year but used by 18/30's so can get very rowdy at time's.
Good location, 5 min's from beach & nightlife, would stay again.

i recently got back from Tenerife... not happy to be back but thats life. My first time to Tenerife and i loved it!! cant wait to go bk in may again wooo! but i would never ever stay in the Optimist again. very very basic. the rooms were plain, little things we noticed everyday, fuse box hanging off the wall, electric always cutting off, no instructions for oven etc. rust in the bath.

I'm literally just back from Tenerife after a 'Hen' week away with a party of 12.

The bride, who arranged the trip, opted for a mixture of DIY and travel agent assistance, RyanAir flights and accommodation and insurance respectively, when she booked the holiday.

The travel agent recommended the Optimist for it's location. Indeed, it is very central. In less than 5 mins you can stroll to the beach and find several bars, shopping centres and cafe-restaurants in the same area. The main street, with masses of 'good' shops (non-tourist merchandise) and a plethora of restaurants and bars, is 5 mins way in the opposite direction, if you use one of the adjoining side roads to cut across.

As other reviewers stated, if you're on the right hand side of the complex, which we were, the busy main road does result in a lot of traffic noise. That said, if you're out late enough and drink enough sangria the night before, it's not too hard to turn over and catch another 40 winks!

The apartments themselves are fairly basic but I found them to be relatively comfortable and spacious. I shared with 3 others and there was never an issue of getting under each others' feet. The living-dining area had plenty of space. The kitchen was smallish but adequate. The bedrooms were a fair size, had plenty of storage and were nicely shaded from the morning sun. The bathroom was also reasonably sized and there was always plenty of hot water available for a shower or bath... no fear of a luke warm (or cold!) shower for the 4th person!! There's a lot to be said for that alone!

Cleaning is a bit hit and miss; every second/third day for the appartments. Some of the public bins around the complex could be have been emptied sooner, however, on the whole I found Optimist to be well kept. There’s a small bar that serves drinks, lovely sandwiches & toasties and ice-creams from 10am – 4pm. They even have a selection of second-hand books which guests can use. I thought was a nice touch for 'budget' accommodation.

In summary, the Optimist provided us with a reasonable place to stay for a reasonable price. I’d certainly return there… in fact I’m already looking-up flights and accommodation rates!

Basic, but if priced accordingly, a very fair deal.and excellent position for this category. Obviously not up to the adjacent 5 Star hotels, so jealousy must be tempered!

Slightly tired decor but adequate. Limited facilities ,Reception lounge area, but no bar service, Internet availability Small Childs play area. and dated pool. Concrete pool surrounds.

Dark green and white colour scheme with pine furnishings and dated tile styles was considered "nicely consistent" by one of us and " A bit oppressive and institution like" by the other. Detailed maintenance, (eg bath sealant, door catch etc can be questionned. but nothing horrendous--like "missing doors!"

Out of main season, it was quiet enough but suspect that possible rowdy clientelle may be offputting to some travellers in "summer" period.

Excellent location for Las Americas and good facilities (bars, supermarkets, restaurants) all close. Level area of town and beach access, but steps in complex and accomodation blocks.
Staff polite and friendly ( probably react to guests ) but communication limited by language. Cleanliness was good with maid and linen service on alternate days.

  • Liked — Position and good budget value
  • Disliked — Uniform dated complex

I stayed here in summer 07 with my fiance for 2 weeks. We went on an Escapades holiday. The holiday was great but the apartments were the complete opposite. Our room was one of the rooms facing the main road and the noise was unbearable.. Not with people out partying but with traffic.. it was non stop. The room itself was so dirty.. The maids did come in every 2nd day and leave fresh towels and make the beds but i'd say that the floors hadn't been washed since the place was built.. The pool bar closed at like 6pm every nite which was another downer.. Also they dont tell you in the brochure that u'll have to fork out deposits which worked out and about 100 euro for us, it would have been nice to be told about that.. the reception staff were really rude. esp one guy who cant speak english.. You actually have to write down your room number to get ur key back. I'm not a fussy person but i can honestly say that this hotel ruined Tenerife for me.. Won't be going back in a hurry.

Good location, sadly that is the end of the good points...
The apartment was very dirty. The only clean thing was the sheets. A build up of dirt and grime in all areas. Kitchen, bathroom - pubic hair on the floor, bedroom - pubic hair and head hair on the floor and bedside table

Very noisy - it is near a relatively noisy road, but that blends into insignificance when faced with the noise levels of the guests. Groups of 18-20 yrs olds, sharing their blaring music for the other guests to hear until approx 11pm when it stopped as they went out. Unfortunately they then came back to make more noise

We chose here because of our budget. We did not expect the Ritz, we knew it would be basic, but we never expected the dirt and the levels of noise

If you dont mind noise and living in previous guests grime, then this place is for you
