H10 Conquistador
Reviewed February 6, 2008

Not a long time ago I had an excellent holiday at H10 Conquistador, Tenerife. That was my first time on Tenerife, but the 5 th in Spain. We( me, my mum, friends of the family) stayed at this hotel from 29.08.2007 - 09.09.2007. We were a little depressed by the 6- hour flight from Berlin and with the time change, so from the beginning the hotel didn't make a great impression on us. But after just a few hours we understood that we were lucky and that was the right choice. The hotel is clean, tidy, the staff friendly and helpful. There were quite a lot of tourists from Germany, some from Russia, Belgium, France, Italy, UK... so it is a quite international hotel. The pool area is very clean, quite and well organized, the pool itself is good for everyone-kids, adults, good swimmers. There is a door, which lead to the promenade and to the sea side( ocean side), it is wonderful to have a walk in evening after the dinner and to watch the sunset and La Gomera island on a bench. Also I should say, that there is a free parking near the hotel, and a lot of shops near by.
Food: Brilliant!!! Wonderful!!! No comments, really. Traditional breakfast in the morning, but...+ champagne, caviar, traditional Spanish and Canarian snacks. Dinner: All people are good dressed, but not like on a party of course, but no shorts. Every day the are special dinners - Spanish Traditional, Canarian Traditional ( with artists and music), Mexico dinner, South America evening and etc. Good wine- reasonable prices, ( terrific Sangria with fruits for only some 5- 7 euro). Also a lot of dishes for vegetarians, kids menu, sea food and fruits from the islands.
Evening shows: On 29.08. 2007, our first day we went to Las Americas in order to find a bar to have some cocktails and to watch a show, but we could find a suitable one- only crowded with drunk teenagers and awful music small bars( with high prices and awful smell, we didn't like Las-Americas at all-bad beaches, crowded, smelly, noisy, expensive, dirty, nothing good at all.) But Los Christianos is completely different- nice smiling faces, good bars and restaurants, shops, super- markets, clean and not so noisy, bet very... luxury- fountains, lights, Palacio de Congresos). But we were so surprised, when we came back to the hotel and so the show there. For the next evening we choose to stay at the hotel for Oriental Party, and we had fun till 3 a.m. ( good drinks at the bar, reasonable prices, different programs and artists every evening). Also water polo, aqua gym in the afternoon.
!!!! Not to forget to say, that my mum had a birthday during our stay, we were surprised to come after the beach at noon and to find a Birthday card, and a bottle of champagne and fruits.
I have been to different hotels in Spain and in other countries, but there is something about this hotel that makes it special, and it really was a wonderful trip.
+ : It has THE BEST LOCATION that can be, free parking, food, good shows, price, friendly stuff, sandy beach near.
- : rooms are not to big, but you won't stay much in the room.
Advices: go to Loro Parque, La Oratava, Teide, to the show in The Piramide Arona, visit Playa de Teresitas near Santa Cruz.

After reading various reviews on various hotels on 'Trip Advisor' I have decided to add an account of my own, relating to my stay at the 'Hotel Conquistador'.
On arriving at the hotel first impression was very good, friendly staff and smooth checking in.However the couple behind us were told there room would not be ready for half hour!!
The hotel has a nice entrance recently refurbished, the lifts close to hand and enough of them. This is good as the majority of the guests are 'OLD'.Once we left the lift it felt we had entered a different hotel, the corridors carpet has had its day and walls in need of paint.
The room itself was ok but small and had a stale cigrette smell to it,also in need of a refurb, however it was clean.
The pool area looks great with many sunbeds but be aware these are taken by the true sun worshippers {GERMANS}at daft o' clock. Also be aware there is a cost for a sun lounger mat of 1.50 euro which is required or you wont feel your bum after 30mins!!!
The food is ok for the first few days but is very repetitive,no theme nights. The open cooking area is busy and becomes crazy at times. On many occasions I felt like Oliver Twist!! looking at the chef with hungry eyes,"please sir I want some more".Those who have been will understand.Always a nice selection on salads and fresh meats but veg and potato wise very poor. The staff seemed ok the odd one even looked happy to have a job!!
The best things about the hotel is its location and cleanliness, the worst things are the rude guests who didnt smile apart from the Brits and food variety. To conclude probably wouldn't go again unless major changes to very needed aspects of the hotel were completed.

In other circumstances we would have rated this hotel very good, but we arrived just before New Years Eve to find the two twins with sea view we had booked were not available for the night so we were given a family room on lower ground floor - it was mouldy, no tv or extras like blankets & extra pillows. It was probably used as a courtesy room. Reception was very rude & abrupt & messed us around the next day when we changed rooms for the two twins. The hotel offered no apology or compensation for inconvenience or lack of facilities for the night either. Warning - the 6th floor has seaviw but looks over the green lower roof so there is no pool view! The facilities were good, although there was the usual scramble for the sunbeds. Good location, near the shops & restaurants and not too far from a beach (the beach in front of the hotel is just rocks). Food was okay but we have had better in other H10 hotels. Overall an okay hotel but I would not hurry to go back!

We decided to spend new year abroad this year in some sunshine and we were not disappointed. Arrived on the 28th and although the room was'nt spectacular there was nothing wrong with it either, it would have been nice if they could provide a kettle in the room to make drinks but anyway we took our own. The hotel was kept spotlessly clean throughout, the staff helpfull and there were many choices of different food available. We went half board which was quite ample for us and we just ate there when we felt like it. The only thing we were not sure about before we went , was the gala dinner on new years eve as there was no itinery on it with our holiday pack, but we found out that firstly, it was included, secondly, they are not too strict on dress code as long as you dress smart and thirdly, the dinner is fantastic, a 6 course meal with wine and champagne. After the meal ( there are 2 sittings to choose from ) we were given a party bag and headed for the piano bar, the atmosphere in the hotel was great, Il Diva performed "live" in the bar and at 5mins to midnight I proposed to my partner, we went through the pool area out onto the beach and watched the fireworks going off all around the bay. I can honestly say it was the best new years eve I have ever had and anyone thinking of having a change from the usual routine of new years eve, then do so it is excellent. Throughout our stay we found nothing wrong with the hotel or staff, we were a bit wary after reading some of the reviews but we enjoyed everything and work permitting, will definately consider going back again next year.

My husband and I stayed in this hotel from 30.11.07 for 1 week. After reading a few dodgy reviews we were impressed, although we arent really that hard to please! On arrival the hotel was impressive. Much on the same power as all other H10 hotels, same decor, layout etc. The check in was a nightmare, no organisation whatsoever. Luckily my husband and I touched lucky for a ground floor room No. 016 the only problem being it was on the shady side of the pool so there was no sun, so at night it was a bit chilly sitting out having pre-dinner drinks. The age group at this time of the year is 65 ish. The blue rinse club as I named them! No offence to the older generation. My husband & I both 36 didnt mind this at all as we just wanted a relaxing break. Not many kids about at all. If you wanted a sun bed at this hotel you needed to be out with your towel on the bed for about 6.30am it was a complete joke! All the beds were reserved 2 & 3 at a time. We were on our marks the first couple of days but then ended up at the beach as we couldnt be bothered getting up to reserve a bed. 4 euro for a bed at the beach, if you come out of the back of the hotel and walk a bit to the left there was a lovely sandy beach. The food inthe hotel was excellent. The usual type of breakfast stuff, sometimes sparkly wine sometimes not, dont know if it was the time you had breakfast or just the day. The dinner was also very good, everything for every tastebud, although I would recommend trying to sit outside at night for dinner as sometimes the eating area felt a bit like a school canteen, and I found some foreigners very rude pushing past and never really thanking the poor staff who were cooking in very humid climates. The waiting staff were very pleasent. The town was quite quiet at this time of year. We found a bar called the Gaelic Corner. We usually try to avoid irish bars usually as we can get this at home, but this wee bar was quare craic all nationalities, prob the most lively bar in the area, so would recommend checking it out. The hotel itself was lovely, very clean, rooms cleaned regularly, some good acts on in the evening if you wanted to hang around the hotel, and the Spa area, which I didnt try out so cant comment. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel it was very relaxing, food was good, it was convenient to airport, convenient to beach, and just lovely. Wouldnt hesitate staying there again. Found the prices in tenerife creaping up to nearly the same as home and beware for every kilo your case is over you get charged 9 euro.

We chose this hotel upon recommedation from our travel agent, for my wifes 60th birthday celebration 'in the sun' with those friends and relatives closest to her in her life.
The hotel is exceptional, good rooms, spacious lounges, and excellent food. The grounds are mostly taken up by three pools, one heated to a confortable 26deg c.
We booked rooms overlooking the pools, which all also faced the sea.......a perfect setting......so you may think!
At 6.30am we were awoken by the sound of moving furniture, which sounded very close........we slept with the patio doors open with curtains pulled across,.....so we got out of bed and stepped out to our balcony, it was hardly light outside, but we could see...and hear a number of people re arranging the sunbeds and umbrella's below.......more intent upon creating space around their 'own ares' than the comfort of sleeping guests. This continues until 9am.....when most of the beds in the sunny areas of the grounds are effectively 'booked and blocked' by the mostly elderly guests[yes its the old-uns that were mostly doing it] Then, I would say, that only 50% of those beds, pool tables and chairs were occupied. the re arrangement also creating havoc with the access areas for the disabled , young and old[the management really do have a health and safety issue looming ]
Our youingsters thoughourly enjoyed the pools but had to pick their waythrough the chaos of the territorial enclaves!
So, onto the food......it was excellent, varied and plentiful......but you would actually think that it was the last meal if you followed some of the guests barging and greed , as they established themselves , again in their territorial quest to have as much food as possible on their tables......and you as a mere normal guest, better not upset their regime........
I wil not accuse any specific nationality, but suffice to say that most of the guests seemed to be German, with a few Dutch and English.
A wonderful hotel in a superb location.....but the management must get to grips with the seige mentality of some guests who are utterly selfish and spoil it for us normal people.
Perhaps they should be brave enough to excercise their own policy in restricting guests from booking the sunbeds until after, say, 9.30am.......and to be able to retrieve any beds left vacant for , say, over two hours.......then it would be one of our preferred hotels and locations

The big positive about this hotel is the location, on the front in the centre of Playa las Americas and in one direction easy walking distance to many quality shops other hotels and a wide choice of resturants. In the other direction a short walk to the more "lively " area of Playa Las Americas but far enough away not to be disturbed. The hotel itself is getting a bit worn but is kept very clean as are the rooms. The pool are is marginally big enough for the size of the hotel and is not helped by the fact that half the area is in shade for most of the day. The rush in the early morning for sunbeds and umbrellas is as bad a anything I have experienced. The restuarants is buffet style for breakfast and dinner and can get a bit crowded at peak times. The food is ok quite varied at dinner less so at breakfast, a wider selection of cereals would improve things. There is a pool restuarnt serving lunch but as we didint use it I cant comment although the menu looks ok. Our room was a good size bedroom with seperate sitting area and plenty of hanging/storing space. There was only my wife and myself but the room was equiped tp sleep four which accounts for the space and storage. I have stayed in much better hotels but for a week this one was perfectly good.
