Cleopatra Palace Hotel
Reviewed August 16, 2011

This hotel is fantastic, mostly because of the excellent value for money, great service and the fact that they are constantly cleaning. Literally all day - rubbish doesn't exist at this place! The only negative that we can think of is that there is very limited parking availability, particularly on an evening. This irritated us a lot as we had a hire car and there didn’t seem to be anywhere else to park it nearby without risking the local police towing it away (a very regular sight whilst we were there!) Next time we won’t hire a car; it was too much hassle in the end.

I knew as soon as we arrived that this was going to be a good hotel. We were offered a seat at reception along with a welcome drink of champage whilst the staff checked us in. We received nothing but excellent service during our stay at the Hotel Cleopatra. The best part of our stay was being part of their 'Expo-Club', all you have to do is sign up (for free) online, and then book directly with the hotel. This gave us a variety of 'extras' such as toiletries upgrade (loads of Molton Brown miniatures - lovely!), free spa day (worth 15 Euro each), a 'special breakfast' in your room (yummy - literally everything you could possibly want to eat for breakfast and then some more tasty treats), a nightly 'turn-down' service (basically a mini chocolate on the turned corners of the bed), a welcome bottle of chilled Cava in the room on arrival, and other such freebies later in our stay such as water, wine, chocolates, nibbles... It’s always nice to get little extras whilst on holiday.

The cleaning staff come round twice a day. Once to actually clean the room (and it was always spotless) and then again to do the pillow service, more towel changes if required, and hand out those lovely little extras. The styling of the bedrooms is a little dated, but everything is in excellent working order, the beds are some of comfiest I’ve ever slept on in a hotel, and the bathrooms have clearly been upgraded quite recently as they are another splendour in marble, complete with ‘his and hers’ sink. Also, unlike many hotels the safety deposit box was free. The mini-bar was small, stocked with VERY overpriced drinks and food (as expected – we recommend buying the identical bottles of water at the local supermarket for 30cents and just swapping them for the chilled ones in your mini bar).

The pool is beautiful (although unheated – not that we minded in the summer heat) and adds a touch of glamour when combined with the vast quantities of marble (floors, walls, statues, the entire pool...) in this hotel. We saw this hotel advertised in a British holiday company brochure as ‘adults only’. This isn’t entirely accurate, as there are children within the hotel albeit not many, and there are no child-friendly services. For this you would need to be staying at the neighbouring hotel (also part of the Mare Nostrum Resort) The Mediterranean Palace. Residents at the Hotel Cleopatra can use all of the facilities at The Mediterranean Palace Hotel next door, although are not permitted to use any facilities at the Hotel Sir Anthony. This system also appears to prevent residents at The Mediterranean Palace Hotel from using the facilities at both the Hotel Cleopatra and the Hotel Sir Anthony.

We found the food onsite to be of excellent quality, and the breakfast buffet had a huge variety of food on offer. From toast, fruit and cereal to full english breakfast, freshly cooked eggs made to order and chilled Cava.. We had opted for the breakfast only option (although many residents had opted for dinner and breakfast) and were very impressed with the wide variety and very high quality of restaurants directly opposite the hotel. We tried the italian, chinese, mexican, indian, greek, american and spanish restaurants, all of which were excellent. We only wish we had stayed long enough to sample the other restaurants! There are also some excellent local cocktails bars. Magic Bar (inside the hotel pyramid) and the nearby Monkey Club Bar were great, but the best cocktails were at the italian restaurant directly opposite the hotel.

Our best night on the holiday was the ‘Summer Festival’ held in the main courtyard/pool area of the hotel. We weren’t expecting very much to be honest, but they went all out and put on a fantastic event that culminated in fireworks. The staff performed a short amateur dance show, held in the pyramid theatre. It was well staged and good fun, if a little cheesy. This is then followed by 2 hours of food and drink included in the price. (22 Euro for non-dining residents) There was every kind of food imaginable and it was all really tasty. The drinks were beer, wine, sangria, soft drinks, and Cava. There were loads of different activities on offer, such as snakes and parrots from the local ‘Loro Park’ (Zoo), various inflatable childrens activites (sumo wrestling, bucking bronco, etc) a live band (again very good) and things like hotdog, ice cream ans popcorn vendors (still free) walking around. At 10:30 the music changed to a DJ – who was fantastic and had a large crowd dancing until it all ended at midnight. After 10:30 the drinks went back to being charged at the bars and all residents could join in the disco.

We did a variety of excursions, and we highly recommend the Siam Park – an excellent water park, styled in true Disney fashion (not your usual dodgy holiday water park at all) The only downside to this place was the cost – 32 Euros per adult and then they have the cheek to charge you another 3 or 5 Euro for a locker! Having said that it was a brilliant day out. We were tempted to get the 15 Euro ‘fast pass’ that allows you to skip the queues on the rides (especially since some of the bigger rides had 20-30 minute queues, and most had 10 minute queues) but that was before we discovered that they were only valid for 1 hour… The food at the park was actually suprisingly good, and represented reasonable value for money when compared to prices in and around the hotel.

This was our best holiday ever, and we have paid a lot more money for a lot less at previous destinations. If we return to Tenerife we will be staying here or at their sister hotel, The Hotel Sir Anthony next door, which is apparently even better.

Room Tip: Go for the pool view or sea view rooms. Some of the street/external view rooms are close to the main...

Just stayed here with our 14 month old son. The facilities within the kids club were quite incredible, especially for under 3s.
The service levels we received from the moment we pulled up outside were a lesson in how things should be done. I could not praise the staff and their attitude highly enough.

The facilities are excellent within this complex. Im not really sure it matters too much whether you stay in the Cleopatra or the Mediteranean, they are viewed very much as one large hotel with shared facilities and you walk through from one to another. Many people posted walking through a tunnel which evoked rather odd images but the reality is you walk through from the Cleopatra common area and straight onto the pool area of the Mediteranean.

I noted comments saying the Mediteranean is not a true 5 star. We stayed in the Cleopatra and I have to say that both combined offer a very high standard of 4 star and I would not agrue the 5 star status.
This is a fantastic hotel, great facilities, great location and great service levels. We will definetly be back.

We stayed in the Cleopatra Palace Hotel for 1 week in July 2011 and enjoyed every mintute of our stay. The room was a pool view room and had a great view from the balcony of Mount Teide also. The buffet breakfast was superb and you had a choice from your basic english breakfast to sparkling cava with some fruit , I have never seen a better and bigger selection to choose from every morning.

The area is nice with some good restaurants although I would recommend Linares italian restaurant in Los Christianos , the most authentic and original place in the village since the 1950's, great food & Atmosphere.

With the beach literally 15 meters from the front door of the hotel you couldnt ask for a more relaxing break. Really enjoyed the shows the hotel put on too.

For parents with kids, the Mediterranean Palace next door would be more suitable , and with all the activities ongoing during the day, they all seemed to have a great time.

Finally the staff were very easy to deal with, even the rooms were being made up twice a day and the chocolates were a nice touch.
The decor is slightly dated (1990's) but the great service makes up for that. Even on check in, a complimentary glass of cava for each of us was a welcome thirst quencher. All in all a lovely hotel and we will be going back!

Room Tip: join the E club for some nice extra treats eg bottle of cava in room after arrival! etc..

A friend and I went for four days and we loved everything about it. We booked a standard room through lastminute and specified if we could have a pool/sea view if possible and we were given a room overlooking the pool of Mediterranean Palace and the sea and it was an amazing view. The room was spacious and clean and had English TV channels which was great and the bathroom was of a good size and powerful shower. You are able to use the facilities of the other hotels which are part of the same resort, good sized pools and a big outdoor seating area for sunbathing, the balcony of Mediterranean Palace has some really good seats to relax in and there are plenty of sport/leisure activities that you can take part in. The staff were friendly and a great choice of breakfast, hot and cold, a selection of fruits, sweet and savoury pastries etc and being vegetarian we still had plenty to choose from. The location is perfect, by the beach and sea and we were told one of the beaches nearby were the best in the area. Very modern and plenty of restaurants/eating places to choose from and a variety of food and the shops are right there. The resort has a fountain outdoors and in the evening they have a light and sound show., very pretty. During the day the area is quiet (most people are sunbathing/touring) but in evenings very busy and you always feel safe. Also after checking out they give you the option of using a room to freshen up before you leave for the airport this was handy as we had a late flight and we could continue to use their pools and facilities for the day.

I would definitely recommend this resort for families, friends and couples, the location is perfect and plenty do for all, everything was close by so we didn’t need to travel. 15 mins taxi from the airport cost 25Euros. We visited Mount Teied, booked onto an excursion through the hotel 8am-2pm 25 euros and then another 25euros to take the cable cars up. Lovely experience and views however i would say rent a car or get public transport as we didn’t have much time up there which was a shame and not value for money, you also need to get a permit to go all the way up-we didn’t do this but defiantly worth it.

We went with Monarch, flight was ok, only downfall they charge £25/31 euros for checked baggage one way so try and book in advance as cheaper. Also take plenty of sun tan lotion and snacks as they are overly priced in the supermarkets. I would defiantly go back as the hotel was superb and the location perfect and plenty to do whatever your interests.

The hotel is really nice and it is very well situated. The breakfast was very rich and the staff very prompt. Rooms are nice furnished and clean and the internet was free of charge but didn't worked almost at all.
The only problem we had, was the airport transfer that we've booked at the hotel. We had our flight at 7 a.m. at Tenerife North Airport and we asked for transfer at the hotel. They told us that it has a fixed price of 100 euros and that we have to pay the amount when we check out, and so we did. But the transfer was actually a regular taxi company that didn't knew anything about the payment and so, when we got to the airport the taxi driver asked us to pay the transfer (another 100 euros). It was a very uncomfortable situation but we've managed it after we've called the hotel and asked for an explanation. We don't understand why the hotel didn't told the taxi company that we have already paid.
Anyway, except this, our stay was great and we definitely will come back in Tenerife.

Room Tip: The room was at the ground floor and so was kind of noisy, maybe it's better to take a room at a...

Just back from another great week in the Cleopatra Palace. Staff were excellent as usual. Breakfast was superb and a great selection to choose from to suit all tastes. Rooms are very clean but just a little tired looking. Would definetly recommend this hotel as location is excellent. Pool area is quite more suitable for older guests but Med Palace pool is ideal for families.
Will definately be returning

I stayed on this resort last September (at the Medeterranean Palace) which is why I chose to go back and stay at the Cleopatra because it was a bit cheaper. I didn't find the Cleopatra any different from the Medeterranean but apparently it's a 4 star and the other is a 5. The service from the staff was excellent, I only really encountered them when I arrived, at breakfast and the chambermaid (was was very friendly and excellent). I was always on the beach during the day so didn't take part in any of the activities the hotel offered but there seemed to be plenty. I had two excellent massages in the Spa and would definintely have more if I go back.

Being a lone traveller, I found the hotel and the resort very safe. The locals and breakfast staff were always very friendly and helpful. I would definitely go back again but the only drawback was the loud music of a local club or pub which was very loud and went on until the early hours which meant I cuoldn't sleep. I think where ever I would have stayed that would have been a problem. Excellent!

It's a shame lone travellers get penalised with huge single-supplement although not the hotel's fault, I just wanted to mention it!!!
