Bit long a report - but I always try to get a lot in to help anyone looking.
Intended to spend a week of Easter half term at Bitacora - but ended us staying a for two thanks to the volcano disruption. What a shame - another week in the sun.......
This was our 4th visit overall and the first in April. This is the only hotel we have ever returned to more than once - and we are fussy (well I am) - so that says something good for the hotel.
Room was overlooking pool - I would always suggest that option and a high floor (at least 4th floor) so you can see the sea in the distance. Ours was 532. Rooms had been refurbished with new floor tiles and we had to rent a safe and fridge (they empty the fridge for you at a price so you can out drinks in of your own). No tea making facilities - which would have been much better. Son slept on sofa bed and he was quite happy with that - he is 17. There is a pull out part of the sofa if someone is a little taller.....
Reception were very pleasant, always with a smile and always very efficient. Takes a bit of time to check in for some reason to get room cards and if you want the extras like fridge etc then you feel others waiting may get impatient. No matter what we asked for during our stay they tried to help. Reception has always been great at all our visits.
Restaurant is well equipped and waiters were all (without exception friendly and helpful). Meals buffet style with specials each evening. It does get repetative but I would say the food quality is always good. and certainly we always had more than enough choice. We were half board but you can swap dinner for lunch if you like.
You can put all bar drinks and meal drinks etc on your room and pay at end of stay. With the Spring card that also gives you 15% discount - so good value and makes you want to stay in the hotel more. Prices werent too bad.
Entertainment during day was great and thats one of the reasons we go there. Mum sits on sun bed whilst me and my son go play the games in the day, You meet great people this way (and this time was no exception - and made our stay even better) and everyone was very friendly and we made several new friends. Ok you win T Shirts and certificates but its the taking part that counts (yeah sure....ok I do like the winning bit too.....). The animations team try and work very hard (Dorata, Magda, Greg, Romina & Marco well done) during the day and make it so pleasurable - thanks for that.
Evening entertainment was mostly ok (surprised me) and worth staying to watch mostly (except Flamenco !!!). After the show and before theres a musician and singer......its ok but could do not being every night, Would prefer some lively music or some kind of disco music to keep people there after the show. Just a bit drab otherwise. Im 54 so I dont mean a rave - just something great to dance to....thats modern.
Pools are great - two pools and they were 30 degrees during the stay. Bottom pool was cooler and has the slide going into it. Plenty of sun beds and whilst summer can be mad with idiots out early this time of year was busy but always sun beds to get. Still have those down early but hotel says it will remove any towels before 8am - but I didnt see that happen. Anyhow, I had no complaints. Round the pool goes quick but theres a lot of space elsewhere.
Hotel is always clean and never seen rowdiness (which I hate). The cleaners are great too. I dont go on holiday to be with idiots bad mouthing and thank fully everyone is respectful of each other and families. Always been good in that regard at every visit.
Certainly would recommend the hotel - its close to everything you need within short walking distance too. Lots of bars around and places to eat - some of English bars were grubby though and needed a clean but plenty to choose from fro all tastes. Euro makes prices not cheap though.
Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The extra week was a bonus. Certainly will return. If you go you wont be disappointed. Weather is so good too.....
Well done the team at Bitacora. Mike
