Hotel Gala

A lovely hotel. The food was great, a really good selection at all meal times. We got upgraded from HB to all inclusive as our first night has to be spent in their sister hotel, an equally great hotel. General service, ie outside bar, restaurant plate clearing, poolside clearing was a little slow but only at at times but all staff were very polite and friendly and happy to assist. Paying for the sun lounger mattresses each day we felt was a bit of a rip off, but if you've stayed before you don't have to pay, we paid anyway, our first time here and as we felt we got our money's worth having been upgraded for free. The hotel itself was very clean, the localty excellent... right in the middle of the night life, but you can easily take it or leave it. The designer shops and more classy area for eating out was a pleasant 10 minute walk away (or 3-4 euros in a taxi) and very tidy, well kept and plenty to choose from. Our room was on the Linekers side of the hotel (not pool side which would have been great and a charge incurred, but we didn't stay in the room that much) and we didn't hear a thing with the door shut during the night. The hotel evening entertainment was pretty good for families and the older people but we stayed for the entertainment then popped across the road for a few drinks and a some lively music. We didn't use wifi but apparently you have to pay for it.... not sure if this is right for a 4* but I think most do charge anyway.... you can use internet cafe's dotted around which are really cheap. If you want proper top level 4* service I'd said go to the Iberostar Bouganville in Adeje (though addressed in Americas)you pay good prices for that but in my experience - top level ever! I was very happy with the Gala and would definitely go back. The beach was a 5 minute walk but we prefer the pool which had a raised terrace away from the pool which suited us as we wanted peace and quiet. The tv in the room had very limiting channels but who watches tv on holiday!!! We had our ipod with little speakers for the limited time we were in the room so tv wasn't essential. The glass panel bathroom door was a little odd but it was frosted at the right level, it wasn't like a normal shutting door so not sound proof but for my mate and myself this wasn't a problem but I could see why others might find it a little odd... Overall I would definitely recommend going there but noting the above comments.....

Room Tip: Our room was on the Linekars side but there was no sound coming from the bars etc when the doors wer...

We really enjoyed our stay here but the buildings across from our room made us feel uneasy as i read there had been robberies in the rooms we had stayed and they were smashed windows with mattresses covering the windows up ,these were being occupied by the sellers on the streets but did make us feel uneasy .The bathroom door was see through but did not affect us but could be a problem for guests .The Food was pretty good a great variety and staff were so pleasant during our stay ,shame with only seeing the animation on our last day as my daughter loved her time with a lovely lady (sorry didnt get your name but you did kelsey a hello kitty mask :) It was our first time in tenerife and we really enjoyed it and the hotel is quite nice ,For a four star though wifi should be free and comfy loungers free also just a tip for teh future :)

Room Tip: try and get a pool view as otherwise you look out on the strip and the buildings which wasnt a nice...

Although we booked it through Thomsons, it was not a British Hotel and the food did not cater for British. Most of the staff could not understand what we were saying and the children's entertainers only spoke Spanish. Glass toilet doors with no locks situated next to the room door was a bit embarrasing when people were entering or leaving the room. Not good for small children getting easy access to the bathroom. Hotel was nice and clean but after paying nearly £3000 for 2 adults and 2 children for a week, it was a bit much to have to pay 14 euros for the safe,1.90 euros per day for sunbed mattresses each, 15 euros for a spa visit. There was also charges for the use of the fridge and the kettle and if you wanted lunch in the hotel then it would cost you 17 euro per person.
There was no atmosphere around the pool, no music, no entertainment. Inside there are water fountains that are on constantly and can be heard in the rooms as well as the entertainment which stops around 11pm
On the plus side, it is very close to the sea front, shops and restaurants - even Macdonalds, so if you get fed up with the hotel food, there is plenty of choice at reasonable prices.
I was only looking for a quiet week so this was okay but I would have been very disappointed if this had been my main holiday. Not what I would have expected from Thomson's Holidays and would not go back.
On the plus side

Room Tip: Reception is on the 3rd floor of the hotel but the fourth floor is more ground level at the front bu...

We stayed here on our first holiday with our baby who was 3 months old at the time. On the whole its a nice hotel, clean and welcoming once you walk inside, which suprised us given that it is opposite lots of pubs attracting party-goers.

Just a quick walk down a slight hill to get to the see front, just a couple of minutes. Local to lots of shops and restaurants and beaches.

We only really ate breakfast here so not really able to comment much on the food. The only grumble we had was that our room was on the ground floor which was below ground level which made it dark and gloomy, but we didn't really spend much time in there. This seems to be where all the families with young children were placed. We had an issue with the safe in the room which the staff solved quickly. On the plus side we didn't hear any of the nightlife at night.

Just returned from 5 days at hotel Gala where we had a really nice stay. I was a little dubious after reading reviews about noise but where we stayed, overlooking the pool it was very quiet. Children are well catered for but adults have their own space too. Breakfast was well prepared and plenty of variety, bedroom was clean as was the common areas and I think it was very good value for the money we paid.

I have just come back from the Gala hotel ,and found it not to be a British hotel, and disappointed that Thomsons did not point this out, this was not in any of there brouchers .
the food was poor and did not cater for us brits.the staff in restaurant seemed under lots of pressure,so run short of food and crockery.
Glass toilet doors, not very dignifying , as our son and his girlfriend where staying in the room next door , we had to lock main door in case they came in whilst we were using the bathroom, i found this very disturbing.
if you where not on the pool side of the hotel, it was the most noisiest place ever, with the hotel entertainment .
My son had bought some tickets for the Laurel park, they went missing from the room , when we went to the desk to complain the staff were very dissmisive .
Thomson s rep Kendall was very nice ,BUT Thomson s themselves not so good to sell a none British hotel to the Brits, i will never use Thomson s again as this was a very disappointing time for me and my family, this cost me over £3,000 for it not to be enjoyed .Thomson s are the pits .This is most defiantly NOT a 4 * hotel.
Beds and pillows rock hard.
security box, 2 euros per day, spa 15 euros a visit, and sun bed mattress are another fee

We were greeted with drinks at reception and was very polite however the receptionist seemed slightly impatient. The hotel itself was very very big, almost like a maze, finding your way around was amazing and discovering different pathways to your room. Only certain rooms could detect the wi fi, which was a problem for our family. Little dust around the room but slightly in the corners of the shelves meant for your clothing. The air conditioning however was very temperamental and both patio doors had to be completely locked for even a possibility of it working, but as our stay was in Easter this did not have that much of a dramatic affect. Most of the staff were absolutely delightful, especially waiters and chefs, fluent in many languages and very polite and upbeat. The main problem however is that the bathroom doors that are in the rooms were see through and lockless so there was little privacy for families etc. Food was absolutely delicious, freshly grilled food was being cooked by chefs while a wide varied buffet was on offer as well. Salad, cold meats, warm meats, pasta , cheese and crackers and many other dish types were available, but microwaves were an option which shows that the hotel might be slightly aware that the food was a little to cold sometimes. There was a lovely pathway to the local beach from the hotel which we found very useful. The hotel is definitely near the heart of playa de las americas however the problem is the place itself, we had items stolen, several fights occurred and drugs were asked about often! The last thing i would dispute about is the policy of no shorts on males at tea time, this became a bit of a hindrance when my brother only brought 2 pairs of long trousers for the duration of his stay. Would not stay again due to the area but waiters and chefs were absolutely delightful!

Room Tip: try and ask for a higher floor as our room was located below the pool area.
