Stayed here for 2 weeks in March of 2013. I didn't really know what to expect as I've never been to the Canaries although I've been to many beach resorts around the world, though mostly in the United States. Overall I think this hotel needs to start thinking about the little details that makes your guests appreciated and welcomed. This hotel is on the opposite spectrum. It operates merely as a money machine, trying to nickel and dime you throughout your stay. It simply lacks the human touch and the hospitality required that makes one happy and interested in staying again. I just don't think the people running this business really care.
Here are some of the things I found seriously wrong with this hotel:
The staff in the reception were not welcoming at all. This is where you need to put your best people! The reception is run so amazingly inefficiently and badly - it would take a whole book for me to write about it. And the attitude, especially among the male staff is baffling! One staff member was particularly arrogant when we were trying to rent bikes. His name is Dominique Dominiques. As we were finalizing the rent agreement and asked for 2 helmets, he only had one. We told him we couldn't rent under that condition. The guy furiously threw the bike keys in the drawer, slammed it and then threw the Euro bills at us like it was some kind of confetti. Amazingly rude attitude!
The hotel has 4 elevators that are all LONG DUE for inspection. These elevators have minds of their own. We never knew what they were going to do next. In one instance our elevator got stuck and after that we chose to use the stairs for the remainder of our stay. If you look closely inside the elevators they have Inspection certificates that are dated back to 2006!! Hello! I AM POSTING PICTURES OF THIS HERE! (See photo section). We complained to the reception about being stuck in the elevators and of course they responded like it was the first time it had happened.
The beds are rock hard and its difficult to get a good nights sleep. Most of the hotel´s guests spend 1/3 of their times there but the hotel apparently doesn't understand that.
The breakfast was alright most of the time. Beverage selection pretty pathetic though and all of their juices were made from concentrate and not fresh. Lunch was spotty and the worst was their dinner. So dinner got old pretty fast since it was most of the same stuff repeated over and over again. They need to fire the guy that makes the soups. Fortunately we were only doing 2 out of 3 meals package.
5. NICKEL AND DIMING
They charge you deposit for your TV remote (yes!), room safe (18 eur per week, non refundable). You pay for towels in the garden and various other little things. Outright silly.
The "complimentary" wi-fi works mostly downstairs and is spotty at best. When you get a connection going it's DOG slow. Also, another annoying feature is that your wifi expires every 3 days, so you need to get a new passcode every time from reception. The 2nd day I was there I ran to the Movistar phone company which is in the area, they got me a SIM card for my cell that included data for online access. Only EUR 15 for these 2 weeks! I then simply created a hotspot on my iPhone and everybody staying with me were happy campers. Our internet connection was blazing compared to the hotel's and I didn't have to deal with the reception.
You might ask what I thought was good about this place. The garden was nicely laid out, the sport activities were a good idea to keep you active. Food areas looked pretty good and location was good. Also one of the staff members, Damian, was very helpful and professional when helping me out. But unfortunately overall not good enough to make me happy and wanting me to return.
