Catalonia Oro Negro
Reviewed August 29, 2013

I stayed at oro negro with 5 friends. We picked this hotel not expecting too much night life but was suprised how much night life their actually was. It was a 10 minute walk into the main strip and beach which wasn't a problem for us. The hotel seemed clean all the time. The food was lovely. Too much to choose from really as you end up eating about 5 courses!! Meat and fish cooked on request which is lovely too. Deserts were a little disapointing as most nights were the same with mixed fruit, jelly and ice cream. No fancy cakes. Our room was nice and spacious. I found hairs in the bath on arrival but other than that it all appeared clean. Was nice to find room had a bath/shower as most hotels I've been to on cheap holidays have a tiny shower and thats it. We had a double room which was two double beds pushed together which was nice. Our room overlooked the swimming pool which was good but our friends room overlooked a tree which wasn't as great. The hotel offered daily activities/competitions which was fun including water polo and I also treated myself to a massage off the hotels massuise. Wouldn't say I'd go back here but we enjoyed our stay there. Nice as a one of holiday.

Room Tip: ask for a room with sea or pool view

Nice hotel, reasonably located.Short walk to the sea front and shopping areas, but for those who have difficulty walking, there is a return walk uphill.
Rooms are fairly basic but serve the purpose, maid service and clean sheets and towels is good.
Food choice is good and quality of food is very good.
Would return here again.

Just got back stayed 05/08/-19/8/2013.where 2 start? Great hotel with fantastic staff. Rooms cleaned every day. Nothing was an effort for the staff 2 sort out(not that we had any problems) a great Big thankyou 2 u all, especially Diego, Sonia & Alex, they were fantastic with our 6yr old son. How can we not mention Simona, so attentive, always a smile. Swimming pool kept spotlessly clean and the lifeguards great and quick 2 react( our 6yr old decided 2 jump in without his armbands) oops. The only downside is there is no music around the pool, come on directors don't let this spoil an otherwise amazing hotel. A word of warning 2 parents of young children, please be careful at the beach as the waves can have a strong undercurrent and easily pull a child out of your hand!!!!!!

Stayed 2 weeks from 5/7/13,hotel very clean. Reception and bar staff always happy to help when required. Food always a good choice of something you like, salads and show cooking very good you have to wait a few mins.to cook fish, meat etc. but worth the wait .Beer 3 euros a pint or 2.20 a a bottle in restaurant. We had a room with a pool view on the 4th floor,it was nice and not lot of noise at night time. Pool was very good but deep if you had small kids, always had the pool man walking around and theres also a childrens pool. Both chaps around the pool would help people with sunbeds and shades if required, blue beds no mattress, white beds mattress (in joke). If would made an effort to speak to them both would do anything to help and were also funny and have a laugh with you.The sun terrace was open to put towels on sunbeds around 8.30am. but you could easy get a bed at 10am after breakfast,in fact most people could get a bed at anytime of the day.It did get a bit busy at the weekends but weekdays there was lots of room. Turn left and 1st left out of hotel 5/7 mins you will come to Wigan Arms and Veronicas Strip for the young ones, turn right out of hotel and past the two night clubs?where theres a man who sits outside from around midnight till at lease 4am. he asked myself one night if I had 20 euros for a short time I explained that I had not 20 euros for a long time! also past The Whiskey Jar and watch out of the lady dressed in colorful parrot outfits who will man handle you in to her bar.Turn right down hill past The Jersey Cow turn left at bottom a 2min walk you will be in The Patch where we enjoyed The Drunken Duck good entertainment and a game of STICKEY, and the Marque bar.We always enjoy our 2 weeks in the sun but having a hotel of this standard more like a 4 star than 3 star we will definitely go back to this hotel again, Thanks to all at the Oro Negro once again.

just back from a 9 night stay at the hotel and would recommend this hotel to anyone, the welcome at reception on arrival was very warm and friendly. I had asked for a high floor and pool view and many thanks for obliging, the room was spotless and very spacious with air con & ceiling fan. We stayed on a full board basis and thought the choice of food at meal times was very good, loved the cheery greeting from simona also. if I had to pick out 1 thing it would be lack of variety for dessert, could maybe do with some gateaux/cake. The pool area was also kept clean and there was an abundance of sun beds and brollies to choose from. Never stayed in the hotel in the evening so cant comment on the entertainment at night. Overall it was a wonderful holiday and will definitely go back to this hotel.

Room Tip: high floor with a pool view

Only just came home from staying here for two weeks, the hotel was lovely & kept in great condition! The terrace area for sunbeds is excellent and there is no rush at all to try and get a sunbed in the morning like I've experienced at some hotels before. The staff were lovely and extremely helpful as we had an issue with a lost item upon arrival and they were very quick to help us to get in contact with our rep to help get it back. They offer a great option to exchange your lunch for your dinner which means if you want to take an evening out for dinner then you don't have to worry about lunch as long as you let them know. The food in the evening was very disappointing, they have a grill with a chef cooking but every night it was fish & something else but even then it would have been nice to not always be offered fish as personally it's not something I like. The pool is also extremely cold, I assumed like most pools you would get used to it after a few minutes but nope, on our whole 2 weeks we only went in it once & as two 20 year old females we would normally have used it a lot more but really couldn't. Also I had a massive problem with the lack of plugs in our room, excluding the bathroom which is supposed to be for razors we only had 1 between 2 people, it was a big problem when trying to keep two phones charged & get ready. Lastly be warned if you're going it will cost you to get aircon in your room which we were not aware of, however we decided to see how it was without it & it was completely fine & I would honestly say it's not needed. Overall we had a great time during our stay here, we spent a lot of time in a bar just down the hill called Gaffers, to anyone looking for a great bar with a great compare and lovely staff without heading down to the strip I would definitely recommend it, also next door there is a great bar called Bar 13 who does great food & even better cocktails!
