Xmas again at the Oro Negro, This is a Hotel I have visited before, still the high standard as before . Food very good, every thursday free CAVA, every day is like Christmas day.The only fault is ( if it is a fault) Half of the tables in the restaurant had tablecloths and the other half was plain tables with nice place mats,(made it look a little like a canteen). The staff were excellent all over the hotel. ( this Hotel is a loosely guarded secret ). Clean rooms, plenty of clean towels, room cleaned every day, Reception staff very helpfull (all speak english).
All in all a very good Hotel to have a holiday.

Room Tip: Choose a room facing the pool, High floor.

Stayed here for 5 nights over new year. Great value for money hotel. Immaculately clean with maids in every day. Spotless throughout hotel grounds. Very friendly staff, from reception staff to the restaurant staff, especially the girl who shows you to your table. Constant smile.. The location is great to, in PDLA but on outskirts. Great wee bar along from hotel, the whiskey jar. Pool area great as well with plenty loungers. This hotel is not for young groups but more for couples, families and older folk. Read negatives about the area but having been to this area a few times I have never encountered any issues.
Only negatives would be, Not near enough sockets in rooms and TV could be updated.. Defo will return though..

Room Tip: Heard few people mention roadside rooms were noisey but we were on opposite side so never bothered u...

We arrived on the 14th January and on first impressions my heart sank a little the coach drops you off across from the hotel on a main road.
After booking in we were put in a room on the main road side this was very noisy from the traffic and after requesting to be moved they did but only to a higher floor same main road side and noise the trouble is most of the good rooms have been taken up by the long stay pensioners it was me that needed the rest for the week!
I was woken most morning by the early birds going down for there breakfast so they can be ready in time for the 0900 rush for the sun beds,After experiencing this we decided to go to the beach most days.
There is simply just not enough room around the pool area for any more sun beds I would say half of you miss out.
Food was fine even though we did eat out on 3 occasions the hotel staff are very nice and pleasant the beer in the bar is 3 euro's but only 1euro in most bars outside the hotel.
I would personally go back to the same area but go to a different hotel I may of changed my review a little had I been given a quieter pool side view room!

Paul

We have just got back from a 10 day stay at the Oro Negro Hotel and had a great holiday once again, we have stayed here five times now and it gets better each time all the staff are friendly and helpful and go out of the way to make your stay a good one, the food is lovely with plenty of choice and always hot and plenty of it and the waiters are all very pleasant and do an excellent job of clearing the tables while you get your next course, the young ladie who is head of house and shows you to your table is brilliant and makes you feel very special 10 out of 10 for her, every thursday is Gala night and you have free champaign and are serenaded by three spanish singers and guitarists which also makes you feel special one of the waiters sometimes sings with them making it great fun, the rooms are lovely and clean with plenty of room in them and when i requested a certain room they obliged, the only thing i think they could improve is to convert the pool to a heated one over the winter months it was like ice and hardly anyone used it what a waste great holiday thankyou Oro Negro.

Room Tip: Room 458 lovely spacious room with pool veiw sun in the evening and very quite.

This hotel was probably very nice once. Now it is not.
Firstly the plus points. The whole hotel is very clean, maid service is great 7 days a week and the restaurant is well above average (in particular Antonia who seated us daily).
The rooms are a good size, plenty of hot water and towels, nice air con, safe and flat screen tv with a few English channels.
The location is good. Near enough to beach, bars, restaurants but far enough away to be quiet. the pools are freezing and we did not see a single person using either of them throughout our stay despite it being 24 degrees and gloriously sunny.
The evening entertainment was really quite good but not nearly as entertaining as watching the old people fighting over sunbeds at 9am when they are unlocked! Never before have I seen people reserving pieces of ground with a towel for when the sunbeds are released. Once the space and sunbeds have been secured there is then a mad dash by dozens of people for breakfast which they had not dared have for fear of not getting the regular spot around the pool. Once breakfasted its back to the room to sit on the balcony leaving all the sunbeds reserved and unused. Bizarre!
Next best thing is watching the pensioners stealing food from the restaurant. Cloak and dagger is the order of the day squirreling away fruit, biscuits and even making sandwiches for lunch from the breakfast buffet. Dont forget to bring your pint sized mug to fill with tea and coffee as the supplied ones are considered to be too small by the majority it seems.
Reception staff are efficient and courteous, the same can not be said about the assistant manager who never smiles and always looks as though he has been roused from sleep.
My advice would be to avoid the bar entirely. It is expensive and the service is appalling. The 2 boys and 1 girl who regularly work there spent most of the time speaking in Spanish making derogatory remarks about the English guests to each other. After listening to this for over an hour I challenged them about this (in Spanish) and was told, in between giggles, it helped to pass the time!.
Free wifi in reception and free Champagne at gala night dinner both nice touches.
Overall a pleasant time at this hotel but I doubt we will return.

Room Tip: Rooms over the entertainment bar get no sun and are very noisy from 10pm until 1am

we stayed in this hotel during the second week in january and found it to be,a good, clean hotel with good size rooms. The pool and pool area was excellent but not enough lounger space,so you had to be quick. The food was average and repetitive apart from thursday, gala night, when there was a little more choice. The reception staff were reasonably helpful until there was a major problem and they quickly referred you to your rep who was not always available. The location was o.k. but not ideal, being at the back of Playa, albeit central.
A word of caution to all travellers to tenerife : Please ensure that you have good, robust insurance and you are totally free of illness before you travel because I had a thoat infection one week before and decided to travel without informing my insurance. This infection transformed into acute bronchitis three days into the holiday resulting in being hospitalised for 2 and a half days in playa private hospital at a cost of 2,300 euros, paid up front, and because I did not inform my insurance before I left the policy was invalid. Your EHIC card does not apply for private hospitals, only for public of which there is only one, in the north at Santa Cruz m

Dear ef65 ,
Thank you very much for sharing your experience in our hotel. Your comments give us the chance to improve our services. We are pleased that you think our hotel is good, clean hotel with good size rooms and the pool and pool area excellent. We will continue working hard in rest of points to improve them.
I apologize if in reception we didn’t know to help you enough during your stay with your problems but we always try to do our best.
I am really sorry that you were worsening of your infection during your visit to Tenerife and felt hospitals public services are not adequate in the island. We recommend travelling with insurance in spite of that there is a public hospital service that should attend you properly.
I hope to welcome you again soon in our hotel and that you will have a better experience in the island

We went to this hotel for a week over the new year as a party of 12
On the night of the gala dinner we could not get a table together for the meal
So this spoiled the night a bit
Don't know why but only half the tables have tables have table cloths and ver close together

the rooms we had to the rear of the building looked on to other property so no views and you could
Hear noise from other rooms due the walls not being insulated and very thin
Kept awake at night if we did not have a drink
Rooms kept clean at all times and towels changed daily

Food was average but reasonable choice

Pool was freezing so in and then quickly out

Don't know if we would go back again for the new year!
