We stayed here for 2 weeks in January and had a wonderful holiday.
Starting with the flights 25 minutes early arriving in Tenerife and 40 minutes early back to Birmingham, well done Thomsons
Arrived at the hotel and check in was pleasant and quick. We had e mailed the hotel in July 2012 to reserve a room with an xl balcony which includes 2 sunbeds on it. The price was 168 euros for 14 nights, but that includes a kettle with tea and coffee, free fridge, free safe and free change of towels, we were well pleased. Room 294 had sun on the balcony from 10am to 4.30pm, wonderful

The food was good, typical hotel food. Plenty of choice and always hot.
We only saw hotel enertainment 3 times, but those 3 acts were good especially the Three Tenors who were outstanding. Drinks in the hotel were no dearer than a lot of outside bars, in fact, in a lot of cases they were cheaper.

Would definately stay again, main reasons being location and very few children at the hotel.

Room Tip: XL balcony rooms 272-296 get sun all day

This is my second review having already written one when we visited in January 2012. On this visit (January 2013) I took the decision to "upgrade" to a premium room as the website price was excellent.

On arrival we were given a room on the 4th floor and, when we went in, both my wife and I said "is this it? Is this what you get for a so-called "premium" room?"

Well, first impressions aren't always what they seem! On further investigation I was very pleasantly surprised. The room is huge, much larger than the typical rooms. The bathroom is rather small but perfectly adequate. The room is on an L-shape format. There is a nice seating area with a 2-seater, 2 chairs and a coffee table in the corner of the "L". The bed is a double and is very comfortable (both my wife and I have sleeping issues but we both found the bed surprisingly good). There are 2 TV's - a large flatscreen on the wall across from the bed and a smaller one angled more towards the seating area. Usual large dressing area and plenty of storage. You get complimentary tea/coffee and bottled water which is replenished daily together with robes/slippers and pool towels. We made great use of the coffee and water (3 bottles supplied daily) and found this a very pleasant addition.

The balcony though is the clincher. It's also on a "L" shape. When you step out, there's a small table and 2 chairs. But as you walk around there are 2 loungers tucked in a corner. The balcony got the sun literally all day! It hit the balcony from around 09:15AM and we were still sitting out after 6:00PM, long after the pool area was deserted. As a pair of sun-worshipers this was ideal for us. It was secluded, quiet, peaceful and you had the benefit of being able to pop into your own room as and when. We never went near the pool area for a week, it just wasn't needed.

There are only 6 premium rooms and they are all at the end of the left hand wing of the hotel (if you are facing the hotel from the pool area). It's highly likely we will re-visit the Vulcano and I will be making sure I get a premium room again!

If I were to make one small criticism it would be the lack of a parasol on the balcony. There is space and I think it would be a good addition. I'm sure the hotel has a reason why they don't offer this (e.g. wind knocking it over), but I'm equally convinced they could find a way.

Room Tip: Premium room upgrade is well worth the extra and, if you like a sea view, ask for 4th floor and up a...

First stay here and we loved it.
Very fast and efficient check in, probably the first hotel we have stayed in where they do not swipe your credit card on arrival. Everything is charged to your room and you settle up on departure.
Room was spotless as was the whole hotel.I know you don't go on holiday to watch TV, but it was great to have BBC and ITV.
Only thing missing was a kettle, but we brought our own and enjoyed coffee on our balcony whilst sitting in the late afternoon sun.
We loved the "Garden Lobby" where we sat to use the Internet.(Free if you have your own laptop/tablet)
We thoroughly enjoyed the food, choice was excellent, everything tasty and hot,we particularly liked the meat and fish that were cooked in front of you.
We even had champagne on Sunday morning!!
Evening entertainment suited us as we love to dance.
Hotel is in a great location and it is an easy stroll down to the beach/shops/promenade.
We had a really great time and can't wait to go back.

We have stayed at the Vulcano hotel four times, we think this hotel is one of the best in Tenerife, we upgraded to a pool view room when we booked the holiday which was worth while as we were given one that was the size of a small apartment with plenty of room and a 40 inch TV, and a great view of the pool area, the restaurant has an excellent selection of hot and cold food, the staff were very pleasent and helpfull , you could also get a very good meal and drink in the pool bar, the hotel also provides very good entertainment nightly , I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wishes to stay somewhere special for a holiday

Room Tip: Ask to upgrade to a pool view room when you book the holiday

If you enjoyed your stay at this hotel and might return, then get a Spring Card for your next visit, we had 50 euro deducted from our final bill for extra drinks and food. You don't need to use any money in the hotel just charge it to your room.
Location: Next to a decent supermarket ideal for water, milk, papers, cups etc. close to 2 money exchange and excursions offices. There is a walkway past the supermarket that takes you to a number of English and Irish pubs with night time entertainment and sports coverage, to the right of the pubs there is an open air drinking area with live entertainment, and also a decent mini golf for afternoon entertainment. Carrying on down the walkway you will come to a small beach, the sunbeds are not very good as they don't adjust, going left is a larger beach, which has more facilities, better beds, more eating places, 12 euros for a pair of sunbeds and shade, you can walk into Los Christianos from here.
Hotel: The hotel was very clean, plenty of seats in and around reception, computers with internet (1euro/15mins), downstairs playing card area and pool table (2euro). Excellent staff throughtout the hotel.
Room: We had a pool view, which is very quiet, a room on the outside of the building might be noisey as it could be close to the pubs, and might not get as much sun as the pool view rooms, our room was spacious, 2 good firm beds, good sized wardrobe, bathroom and safe, and mini fridge 1euro/day, and spotless. The tv was a good size with a good choice of english progs. Our friend could not get ITV reported it, repaired in 30mins. Best pool view rooms are in the middle block, high floors, ie: 772-792 or 672-692.
Food: We always managed to get a table for 4 in the restaurant, I thought that the food was of a good standard with ample choices, was never disappointed.
Bar and Entertainment: Service was pretty good, no need to mess about with money, just give them your room number. The entertainment is mainly dancing for older clients, with a guest turn between 10pm-11pm, bar closed at 1am.
Pool Area: The heated pool averaged about 24 degrees, snacks at the pool bar were very good, reasonable price.
Outside entertainment: The Drunken Duck is always a good place to go, to get a seat inside, before 9.30pm. We went to a show at Decades (mini-golf), called Bitter and Twisted, 25euros for 3 course meal and the show, excellent meal and show, loads of room to sit. Thought it was excellent value for money, would have gone to the other show but had to come home.
The hotel is excellent for any couple who wants a holiday away from children and noisey people.

I had received good reports regarding this hotel but was bitterly disappointed with just about everything. We were kept awake the first 3 nigts by excessive noise and only received a change of room after great insistance; and only then after having been subjected to extremely rude treatment by the reception staff. The standard of the rooms were 'tired' with threadbare sheets and chipped furniture. The food was of poor choice and invariably only just warm. Many guests were complaining; some of whom said they had been there many times before but this was the last time. None of the manangement were interested in the guests complaints. We were awakened fefore 7am every morning (whilst stil dark) by guests dragging their favourite sun loungers into position.

Have just reurned from 2 weeks at the Vulcano hotel 1/01/13 to 15/01/13 no change as usual the standards are very high and the food excellent. So much so you are spoilt for choice. You can even arrange to have a meal or 2 at any of the sister hotels or just go for a change of scenery. Am waiting for the travel agent to call back as we are all booking again for next January 2014. Will say one thing this hotel is not for the younger aged couples.
