“A Gem of a Break.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 5, 2011

I've been to the Vulcano quite a few times before. That is statement you will hear a lot of times if you talk to guests at the Vulcano, the hotel creates a lot of loyalty and I can understand why - this is my eighth visit.

One source of enlightenment is the much utilised visitor's book in the large ground floor dining room. Consistently clients are positive about the hotel cleanliness, the friendly staff and quality of the food. I am a picky so and so but there is little to complain about but as one negative stated 'why can't we have mints and coffee after dinner?' maybe that is a point!

The large, impressive hotel is situated on the southern edge of Playa Las Americas but it is now time to park your prejudices, this is not shots and sangria, this is much more Gucci, Armani and Patek Phillipe. The hotel is located amongst a number of liked sizes quality hotels a couple of hundred metres from Las Americas 'Golden Mile' shopping centre where if you ask the price you cannot afford to buy it. The beaches, restaurants and if you want them, bars, are all within a 200 metre range, the hotel is in an enviable location.

The surrounding area is flat and negotiable so attracts those not so firm on their feet. The recent decision to make the hotel adults only has added to the number of senior citizens using its facilities and on my recent visit I was probably one f the youngest there and I am no spring chicken. A consequence of an older customer profile is my one gripe about the Vulcano - the pool area is not the biggest and at 7.00 a.m. in the morning they are out reserving sun beds that will remain empty until mid-day. I never get up that early after a decent night out especially and wish for a strong wind to blow the beggars off!

Rooms are spacious, very clean and well appointed. If I can offer a tip that is go for a superior room if your budget will stretch that little further. Superior rooms overlook the pool and are peaceful at night, come with free safe, wine and nibbles, bath robes and pool towels. I asked for a double bed and was provided with a new super king size so no complaints.

This is a very well appointed, well run hotel that offers good facilities and is very well located. It has its detractors but it has its supporters too and if you try to book you will see how numerous they are. I will be back next year.

Room Tip: Superior rooms offer a lot of advantages for a small premium.

For anyone living in the wind-swept, wet, cold and dull British Isles in November, 10 days in the Vulcano is a real tonic. Never having stayed there before, we have nothing to compare with in the past. Although we have stayed at the Bitacora several years ago. The moaners about the Vulcano are there to be found on Trip Advisor and in the Hotel guestbook, but they are best ignored. I believe whenever you return to a hotel where you have stayed previously, your perceptions are quite different next time round. Maybe those folk need new hotels to move on to and to complain about.
We really enjoyed our break. There are some small matters I could comment upon, but I don't think I will. On the positive side, the new Memory foam matresses were to die for!! Fantastic comfort. With a pool-facing room the really remarkable thing about the Vulcano is how quiet it is both inside and outside of the hotel and especially after 11.30pm. Very relaxing given it's location.
We would go back any day.........and probably will.

Room Tip: With the very high occupancy rate at the Vulcano it probably isn't possible to request any speci...

To start.... We have been to this hotel several times before... so we are not newby's.
It is so annoying to hear the negative comments about this hotel, and trust me this is a minority not the majority. You only have to walk round the hotel and all you can hear people saying is that they do not understand why some people are being so negative.
Restaurant: The maitre d was on hand to find you a table if required.
Many food options - at breakfast you have the omlette station, you can have
eggs and bacon, sausage, cereals, meats, fruit.
Your evening meal consists of so many choices.. meat, fish, pasta.. some
evenings you could have steak cooked to your preference.
People complain about the food being cold..... Okay its not rocket science if you walk round with your potatoes and veg on your plate, then go and queue to get your meat..... Yep the potatoes and veg will have gone cold..... this is what people were doing.
Wide variety of deserts including ice cream.
Rooms: Safety deposit box in all rooms - 12 euro deposit for the week.(Returned to you at the end of your stay)
Would recommend pool view rooms.
Drinks: Prices average considering drinking in the hotel.... Sign up before you go for a SPRING HOTEL CARD and you will get 15% discount off your bar bill. ( Make sure you do this before arriving at the hotel and you have your card number)
Vodka: 3.30 Euros - Coke (bottle) - 2.20 euros ( one bottle does two vodkas)
Dry martini same as above
Beer: 3 euros a pin
Don't forget: 6pm until 7pm you have HAPPY HOUR.... Buy one get one free.......

EVENING ENTERTAINMENT: Exceptional acts, cruise ship quality..... Dominic James amazing.
Daytime Activities available should you wish to join in.
STAFF: Everyone was so helpful, courteous and could not do enough for you.

If you read the negative reviews... at the end of all the negativity each one says... THEY WILL RETURN. Need I say anymore.
Going back again next year....... Without a doubt.
Please do not hesitate to email me if you have any questions.

Room Tip: Superior pool view room the best... 5th floor upwards.

I have stayed at the Vulcano many times and always had the corner situated Suite complete with 2 Balconies and a spacious sitting area. Happy Hour is a real Bargain and with the Spring Card there is a 10% discount on al drinks purchases. For the Independant Traveller they include Airport Transfer now. A really good experience all round.

Room Tip: Go for the Suite if it is available. Well worth the Extra !

Returned from the Vulcano which we have visited over 10 times now, and I am sorry to say the quality of the food has fallen, it is not bad, but not as good as in previous years. This is a shame, the food here was one of the main reason for all our visits. Staff still work very hard and we found the hotel spotless. I would still tell people to visit here, but I hope the standard of food rises again.

Just returned from a great week with half board in Hotel Vulcano., Although we have been to Playa de Las Americas same time in meny years. The temperatures were suitable, some cloud, but most of the time sunshine.
The room was spacious, clean and nicely decorated. The towels were good quality. Small details, the bathrobes need to be larger size and hope more international TV channels (DW English, CNN…). Also fast WiFi is today including our life at home and work, suggest to include room rate.
The dining room was light and airy and tables were always available. The waiting staff were efficient and polite. The choice of food was good, with the normal choice of soups, cold meat, salads. In addition to this there was full range of fresh fruit, ice cream and desserts. All very good and we certainly had no complaints at all.

All in all
+ Location
+ Cleanless
+ Service
+ Airport transfer
- WiFi
- International TV channels
- Safe extra

We would certainly go to this hotel again, and would definitely recommend it to our friends.

Looked forward to returning to the best 4* in the best Las Americas location-- WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT-- First of all it is marketed as adults only--WRONG-- if you go from outside the UK it would appear that you can take babies &young children, they were there in our first week. Upon arrival we were informed your room is not ready, leave your luggage & come back in an hour, ourselves & another couple went away (without an apology). Pool towels not now in the superior rooms, see the pool attendant/lifeguard (when he is not texting) & if he is there when he is supposed to be. Hired a fridge as usual, (now a health hazard) desperately wanted de-frosting & a thorough clean as the inside was filthy with black mould type deposits I doubt it had been cleaned since last used 2 years ago. I would suggest you ask to inspect before you hire one. Restaurant, no Maitre D to show you to a table, the food was still good however there was a distinct lack of variety, especially vegetables. Entertainment Lounge, despair of getting service in there, not uncommon to wait 10/15 mins for your order to be taken(you are discouraged from going to the bar) and a further 10/15 for the drinks to be delivered to your table. We were advised the hotel group had been taken over and had reduced the staffing levels considerably and it showed. Felt sorry for the remaining staff who were rushed off their feet and working long shifts-- so the take over must have been by accountants not hoteliers. Having said all that I will go back as it is the best 4* in Las Americas, but as with other regular visitors, many going back over 15-20years it is disappointing to see what was excellent reduced to merely good, still I suppose I did see it at it's best-- which it could be again if they got the staffing levels correct and the right staff including the lifeguard (not another invisible/textman)

Room Tip: Always book superior rooms for the extras
