“Mare Nostrum: Mediterranean Palace and The Sir Antony and The Cleopatra; mixed review but overall nice.”
Reviewed May 28, 2013

Billed as one of the few 5-star hotels in the SouthWest part of Tenerife, on the beach on Los Cristianos, the main hotel, Mediterranean Palace, is nice but not really a 5-star. Now 25 years old, it has features of aging physically. Internet was available but had poor connectivity and was very slow when it worked. The bed was very hard and room facilities basic. On the good side, the people service was sup. Front desk staff were efficient and attentive and at every turn you could tell that everyone was well trained and well motivated to assist. On the negative side, the small gym had a daily cover charge that seemed inconsistent with the hotel's status. We quickly upgraded to the partner hotel, Sir Antony which is really nice, truly 5 star and first class for all services and facilities. The superb pool and garden area is beautiful and the excellent public beach a few steps away. The Sir Antony price is higher but worth the difference. Again, the Sir Anthony staff shined. Breakfast was a special treat, and elegant. Attendants, life guards, and other support staff were great. This is a wonderful part of Tenerife with three shopping centers across the street and several fisherman villages nearby with super fresh seafood menus. Los Cristianos, and Mare Nostrum, is a truly nice place to stay. We're ready to go back soon.

Room Tip: For a higher price, choose the Sir Antony and enjoy the breakfast. A seaside view is nice and worth...

This was our 4th visit to the hotel complex and what we love most is its location and the pool area. The hotel no longer has the bars and restaurant choices it once had but with its location there are many choices locally so it was not an issue for us. However we would have preferred the hotel bar to stay open after midnight and as the staff removed the bottles from behind the bar and the drinks menus and turned off the TVs way before that time you got the sense they wanted to close before midnight but other than that and the old fashioned hairdryer in the room (ladies I would suggest you take your own) we had no complaints. The revamped store and coffee bar was a welcome addition to the facilities.

Room Tip: We emailed the hotel before we stayed and asked for a room with a balcony that caught the sun during...

Dear Paju19,

First of all, thank you very much for your feedback. We do welcome all kind of comments, even negative, as they are the best way to detect where we are failing and make our service improve.

I’m happy to read that the general balance of your stay has been positive. Your comments about the hotel bar closure times has caught my attention, specially those relative to the staff picking up elements before the right time. I will make sure that they respect the closing times without putting any pressure on the guests.

I would also like to take the chance to thank you for your loyalty throughout the latest years, much appreciated.

Warmest regards,

having been to this hotel on several occasions i cant fault the location or outside appearance, but inside the rooms are very dated 80s style and not changed since, however if you pay the extra for the sea/pool view its well worth it , the food and service 1st class , great location central for great shopping, class restaurants and nice pubs .

Dear wdrain,

Thank you very much for sharing your opinion here.

I´m glad to know that you have enjoyed the resort surroundings. I would have preferred reading that you have also enjoyed our facilities but I can understand that you expected more modern rooms.

We hope to be able to carry out major refurbishment works soon and hopefully you will then be able to make a better use of our facilities.

This is my 3rd review on Mediterranean Palace, and we still find it a nice hotel. Yes, it is getting dated but it is still comfortable, it is in a great location, food is good and staff are helpful and polite. The pool area is fantastic, as is surrounding area.
We have stayed here many times, and we will continue to.
