Ponderosa Apart Hotel
Reviewed July 3, 2011

Brought my daughter, son and his girlfriend here for a 11 night break , have to say being fair you get what you pay for, i paid with flights £1100 for the four of us inc flights being all inc so as said you get what you pay for..
The hotel room was cockroach invested, was basic and broken this that and other although spacious !
The safe was dearer than i have paid anywhere before although you did get so much back..
The food was diabolical however how i looked at this it was free and we more than made up for it in what we drank so were more than happy to eat out everyday
So as said you get what you pay for in life and this was cheap so i cant complain its our own fault for not paying more, i would not stay here ever again and would not reccomend it to anybody and the one time i was being a cheap skate it backfired so in future and since i pay more ..
The swimming pool had a dirty tide mark around it which really made me not want to use it, we tended to enjoy the sea as the beach is only 5 min walk and was super..
The only thing i have to say is the hotels location is brilliant for everything..

Myself and four friends aged 22 have just arrived back from the hotel Ponderosa. Normally I would not tend to write a review, however with this three star all inclusive complex I just couldn't resist. I understand the hotel is not the most expensive in the area however when you pay for a service you expect to be supplied with at least the basics. I will quickly highlight the positives of this hotel, location was great for the beach and the nighlife. Now more to the point, the negatives. My friends room had a leak for two days which covered the floor with water. The General Manager who can mostly be found smoking a cigar by the pool side and admiring the view of his dated hotel, or listening to the cd player he has clealry heavily invested in for entertaiment for his guests, would rather do that then deal with the massive amount of problems around him. When asked " were is the entertaiment team" the response was " she's on hoilday", (well whoever you are I hope you had a nice hoilday). I would expect that a Manager of a hotel would use his knowledge of lesiure and tourism and realise that giving staff holidays in a hotel, which is catering for increased numbers of guests in June without sufficient cover would be a poor decison, a mistake few savvy people would make. Now for the food, on arrival my welcome sheet highlighted that men should wear trousers, if you are going to expect guests to look smart when present in the restaurant, well at least serve somthing different than chips, two percent meatballs and spam, of course it's possible the advertised parrot show that never appeared was actually served up on the Thursday night!! We were fully realistic the food wasn't going to brilliant but edible was a thought!! If I was the chef working there, I would be asking for a higher budget to purchase stock, or hanging my wok in shame over this mess of a place!! The snack bar provided cheese and ham sarnies, most days the bread was that hard you could get arrested for carrying a lethal weapon. Apart from that and the things already mentioned, the hotel running out of toilet roll and the enept Manager I couldn't fault the place. Fair enough this didn't affect my hoilday as much, because we all got on with it and hit the clubs every night, but if you are a family I would avoid the place like the plague. if you're a couple and would like to split up with your respective other half then take them to the most customer unfriendly Hotel Ponderosa.

Set a little way up a hill this hotel had excellent views to the sea from the front and Teide from the back. It was close to local shops and a short walk from Playa Las Americas. Apartment was spacious, quiet and clean although the furnishings were rather random. We had 4 chairs on the balcony and two inside but one of the rooms in our party had just one inside and one out. They had a kettle and we did not so we got the impression things were not replaced as they wore out or went missing. Nevertheless we were all inclusive so it didn't bother us. Disappointingly we had booked 3 rooms but were allocated two adjoining and one on a different floor. We don't understand the reviews about the balcony doors not locking - handle in the up position is locked from the outside, perhaps others did not work this out. Food was okay, other people were complaining about it but it was okay - usual fare of soup, fish, pasta, salad, mystery meat, etc - nothing labelled though so some guesswork was involved - excellent chicken paella one night. Reception and dining staff really friendly. Bar staff less so but we kept smiling and they soon warmed to us. Requests for gentlemen to wear long trousers to dinner and for people not to reserve sun loungers were widely ignored by the largely english guests. There was a shortage of sun loungers - mainly caused by people reserving them early in the morning and not actually turning up to use them until much later in the day. Evening entertainment was the parrot show, tropical show and birds of prey on three nights always followed by a different singer. The repetoire of the singers was limited and okay if you like Frank Sinatra type music but most people didn't so the bar was never busy. The 111 bus from the airport takes about 20 mins and cost two euros 30 per person each way. The bus station in Adeje is the end of the line for the bus and just across the road from the hotel - much faster and cheaper than an airport transfer. We would definitely recommend using this if you are not hiring a car. Siam Park (waterpark) is a 10 minute walk from the hotel. Sandy beaches with safe bathing and snorkelling just 5 minutes away. We really enjoyed our stay here and would return - not 5 star but good value for money.

STAYED in Ponderosa for 8 nights and had to eat out for 2 of these. Breakfast was nice but everything else was very boring .We were all inc but not due to leave hotel till 4pm .we were told by the waiter at breakfast on the day we were leaving that we were not to come for lunch as all inc finishes at 12 noon.
Rooms were very basic and the entertainment was mostly reptile shows and then very boring singers. You can see the beach from hotel but it is quite a walk to get there.would not return

My Partner & I stayed at this hotel the last week of January till February 07/02/11 for 10 Days. On Arrival to the hotel we checked in the receptionist was friendly, & cheerful. The reception area was not that appealing to the eye. It looked a bit in need of a clean. We checked in & then the receptionist asked for our Passports & said she would give us them back later as she was busy, we said no that we would wait for them as never leave your passports unattended. So she then proceeded to check in etc, We were given our keys to the 4th floor. We pressed the lift button to bring us to the 4th floor, there were 2 lifts one of the lifts didnt seem to be working, the lift that did arrive was very old & dirty & grotty looking, it looked like it was there since the dark ages. Once we arrived to our room The main door was badly in need of varnish, on entering the room the room was bright , & looked clean .We had a lovely view from the balcony which I have to say really made up for the hotel so far.We unpacked etc & then we proceeded to the restaurant as were booked in the hotel for Half board. We arrived at the restaurant & the restaurant was small enough, the seating areas seemed to be very cramped. The variety of the buffet was not great, Soup was always very warm every evening which was good, they seemed to have either Fish, Chicken etc on every night, Veg & Chips, salads every evening. Breakfast was Buffet also.Over the holiday the 2nd lift never worked. Cleaners cleaned the rooms 3 times a week only. There was a rotten smell from our room & this came from the bathroom I had to buy Air Freshener for the bathroom as it was bad. The bedroom seemed to have ants as well as at night I would see them they were on the headboard of the bed also we had to move the beds away from the headboard. We ended up scratching every night in bed so We can guess what that was from. What Can I say you get what you pay for this Hotel says it is a 3 star it is definitely not a 3 star rating it should be a 2 star, as we have stayed in 3 stars before & they were definitely away better than this hotel. We will definitely not return to this hotel again. The pools were cold also..... No Air conditioning.

the best thing about this hotel is location, close to all the bars and nightlife. the rooms are basic and in need of updating. there is no air con which is unusual for 3*. good news the breakfast is good with english sausages. the lunch and dinner are below par for a 3* spanish hotel. two pools but neither heated as advertised. some of the staff were very helpful and pleasant. the barman never cracked his face and was abrupt. rooms were cleaned twice during the week i was there, but no very well. towels were tatty and pillows were stained. entertainment was very poor, we went out most nights. we got this hotel through travel republic at a good price for all inclusive. still this hotel was well below standard for a 3* spanish hotel. two lifts but only one working. if your of out for the night, try and see MR D the best act on the island.
