Paraiso del Sol Apartments
Reviewed December 14, 2012

visited for 1 week all inclusive in november/december. weather was nice. The apartements were dated and the security of the apartments is something the hotel should look at, as there were a few break-ins during our stay, we never felt safe following this as there was only a small bolt and a chain to ''lock the door''. Although we were all inclusive the bar closed at 11pm and there was no where else to purchase any drinks. Food was never hot, always served luke warm and had to use a microwave everyday to heat our meals up. Entertainment very poor nothing to keep you in the hotel, we were sold this hotel as a 3 star, when we were there we noticed in the reception area that it is actually a 2 star hotel. we travelled in a group of 5 adults and were offered sexual favours in exchange for cash, a lady put her arm around one of us and tried to take off a nacklace they were wearing. I have visited tenerife many times and have never had any of these problems before. all in all i would visit tenerife again, but not this hotel.

hotel staff very friendly especialy sara the young girl in charge of entertainment !poor kid only been there 2 weeks and was dealing with all sorts of complaints.food not to bad for the price but it was always lukewarm, thank god for the microwave!rooms ok but very dark and dingylots of attempted breakins.next door to us targeted, blood left on the wall outside, still there 6 days later.we where A L but the bar closed at 11 so if you wanted a drink after this you had to leave the hotel where you were stopped and offered sexual favours for 5 euros or were touched up or your jewelry was targeted.we were in a group of 5,3 males and 2 females aged 29 to 56 and it didnt stop them.heard of loads of thefts.hotel needs to offer more entertainment to keep people in the hotel.been to las america 5 times but dont think we will go back to this hotel again

Room Tip: try not to get a ground floor, for safety

The studio which we stayed in for a week on a self catering basis was quite basic but clean enough and everything was functional and in working order. The main drawback in the studio for us was the insect problem namely tiny ants of which hoards would appear if there was the tiniest morsel of food lying around so make sure you've cleaned up well after eating and also make sure you've not left any food stuffs lying out for any period of time !!
The pool area was relatively small but it was a pleasant area to be around relaxing on one of the the few sun loungers that were available.
Any of the staff that we encountered during our stay we found to be very friendly and they did try to resolve any issues that we may have had.
There is a very good supermarket and a very nice little family run Itallian take away nearby.
The location is quite handy as it's not too long a walk to the beach or local night life.
All in all the Paraiso del Sol studios/apartments are a reasonable place to base yourself if your on a no frills budget holiday.

Room Tip: For peace of mind I would advise you to rent a safety deposit box at a very reasonable cost as there...

Hotel very old hat, furniture and furnishings very worn and shabby.
Room very basic but cleaned and towels changed 5 days out of 7.
Defo not an all inclusive hotel.... food quality was poor , possibly due to shortage of staff. bar closes on the dot at 11pm some nights 10.45....
Good base for self catering, and just 5 mins from strip. also 5 mins down hill to beach.

As with other reviewers, we were a little apprehensive about the Paraiso Del Sol after reading a few reviews, but if you go with an open mind (generally, only people with something to complain about write reviews!), and bear in mind what you've paid for (not 5 star!) you will be pleasantly surprised.

On arrival, the receptionist was very friendly, spoke very good English and explained the basics to us, before the doorman/security/odd job man (I think) showed us to our room (carrying all three HEAVY suitcases down steps himself). We were situated right near the pool, which was very convenient, and at the other side of the pool was the bar. We didn't spend a massive amount of time in our apartment, but when we did, there wasn't too much noise, and the bar shut down at 11 anyway. This was ideal for us as we could take advantage of the AI drinks until then, then head down into town to carry on partying.

With regards to the food, as other people have said you get what you pay for. In my opinion, breakfast was fine, with a good selection covering continental and English breakfasts. It was always hot, and the waiter was very friendly. I tended to fill up at breakfast or head to the beach and so ended up having a mid-afternoon snack at the bar rather than eat lunch in the restaurant so can't really comment on the lunch time food. Dinner was only eaten once, pork and some meatballs, but there seemed to be enough choice but it didn't look very varied the next night. Saying that though, the restaurants around the hotel and further into town are really cheap and Los Christianos is only €5/6 in a taxi and has some really nice places to eat as well. I think we took advantage of the AI drinks more than the food to be honest, but after speaking with other guests who were SC, we only paid about £80 more than them so it was definitely worth it.

Our room itself was ground floor, always clean and clean towels were left on a regular basis. We had a little veranda, which was nice, but the room itself did get very hot at times, especially as we had to ensure that all doors were locked and chained and barred, etc. I would recommend hiring the safe, which is pretty reasonable at €15 for the week. After hearing things around the pool, we were glad we did as there were reports of people entering rooms and taking phones, money, etc whilst people were sleeping. That meant doors locked, passports and all money, etc in the safe, even whilst sleeping. Air con would have been much appreciated at this point!

Playa de Las Americas itself is good, if you're up for a lot of drinking! PRs on every bar (which we didn't mind), offering two drinks, litres of cocktails, and enough shots to have you dancing like a fool, all for €5/6. Paraiso Del Sol was ideally located for all of this, with Veronica's strip five minutes walk but it was far enough away not for noise to be a problem. The only negative point I feel I need to make is the crime rate. We were only there for a week, but on the second night got mugged on the way home. The road on which the hotel is situated is nice and quiet, but I think this may have been the problem on this occasion. We were followed home by a man, who grabbed my friend from behind and snatched her purse. Luckily enough he dropped it further up the street and left behind her phone. He only managed to take €20 thankfully but girls, just be careful!! Reception were very helpful when we got back, directed us to the police station, who were also sympathetic and helpful, and helped clean up my friend's wounds from falling on the floor. As I said, other people told us of things being stolen out of their rooms, and we also heard of people being pick-pocketed whilst out and about (obviously not the Paraiso's fault!).

Whilst there were a few negatives to our holiday, we did have a great time and I, personally, would not think twice about returning to the Paraiso Del Sol.

Room Tip: Possibly request a non-ground floor room for security purposes.

we was all apprehensive about going to paraiso del sol (paradero 1) after some of the reviews we read about the apartments and location but it was all totally unfounded. it sounds to me that the people who wrote the bad reviews paid for 2 to 3 star accomodation and expected 5 star service, you get what you pay. even though paraiso del sol is classified 2 to 3 star the staff provided an excellent service. they are very friendly and very helpful. the rooms are basic but very clean. the food was a buffet style layout with a choice of full english breakfast, cereals or continental. lunch had a salad bar with various meats, fish and rice and pasta. dinner was also a various meats, fish and rice and pasta, potatoes, chips, paella and pizza. all the above meal times also had starters and desserts of various soups and sweets plus fruit. they endeavour to put entertainment on most nights. if the entertainment is not to your liking there are plenty of bars in and around the area i:e murphy's irish bar, wigan arms and linekers bar and much more. we would definately stay there again, thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. we can honestly say that the negative write ups are totally unfounded and the people who wrote them should try paying for 5 star accomodation if thats what they want. an holiday is what you make it. thank you one and all at paraiso del sol you are magnificent.
