Tucanes Gay
Reviewed September 1, 2008

I stayed at Club Tucanes with my partner about a month ago. Had a great time, but if I go back to Playa del Ingles I'd probably pick somewhere else to stay. The accomodation is generally quite nice, but there a few details missing for the cost. The jacuzzi didn't work, the TV didn't work very well, the shower flooded the bathroom whenever it was used, and the bathroom door didn't shut properly! The self-service laundry was also broken.

Having said that, the staff were friendly and helpful. The bungalow was nicely furnished, and I liked the pool/bar area. We spent a lot of time on day trips and the like, so the accomodation's shortcomings didn't bother me as much as they might do if I'd spent a lot of time there.

We stayed at Club Tucanes in August 2008. It was one of our best holidays ever. Although the bungalows were just OK, the professionalism and incredibly good work of the staff made our stay really enjoyable. Nothing was too much trouble for them to make our stay pleasurable. We recommend this place very highly. Just a few caveats: cleaning ladies are a bit on the loud side, the jacuzzi does not work and despite the information provided on their website there is NOT 24 hour security so you better keep all your valuables in the in-room safe.

My partner and I arrived at Las Palmas and as promised were met at the airport by a sensations representative.

Check in at the hotel went smoothly and staff were
very helpful.

Our bungalow was in a great location and the gardens seemed well looked after.

Our time was divided between the beach and pool area at Club Tucanes, there was a great atmosphere at the pool and we made some good friends whilst there and had fun

When I returned to the UK I realised that I had left my phone charger in my bungalow, the staff where more than helpful in returning it to me, it seemed that nothing was too much trouble.

We look forward to returning.

Thank you.

Richard and Mark.

We felt right at home here from arrival - although the check in process with the manager was a little unwelcoming (no safe key, TV remote handed over) from then on things got better and better. The reception space is very welcoming and airy, the rooms basic with newly renovated bathroom and terrace facilities. flat screen TV, kitchenette and 2 single beds pushed together to form double bed. Rooms are not air conditioned, but who needs that when you are underway during the day. Staff Bernie and Ian were particularly welcoming - regularly greeting us and giving us information (also introduced themselves). The other staff were also friendly. The pool and bar space exceeded expectations. although we only spent a couple of sessions there, there is a very large, modern pool, with extra whirlpool beside (and a second one out the back too!!) Bar and furniture modern and welcoming. The whole complex is kept regularly maintained, with no sight of dodgy or run down areas.
Location is ecellent: 5 minutes to Yumbo Centre, 30 minutes walk to the dunes, with an extra 30 minutes walk THROUGH the dunes to the gay beach.
We loved it - a mixed crowd of guests (Italians, French, British and Germans) - no party atmosphere on the pool which was a relief - there is enough time for that later at Yumbo!!

The reception was terrible, we were just given the keys, asked for cash to pay for the internet and that was it.
Most of the staff are drunk on duty and very rude and unhelpfull.
Don't expect a cooked breakfast, even if confirmed by the travel agent (Sensation holidays, London).
Rooms are "cleaned" whenever, bins not emptied, as a matter of fact the room was dirtier once the cleaner had been !!
Not to mention the ants and cockroaches.....
Maintenance staff are so loud first thing in the morning !!!
The noise from the street is extremely loud till 3 a.m.
The manager is a "joke" .
Perhaps the resort is so badly run because the staff is not getting paid on time ? sometimes weeks behind !!!!
The list is long, to cut a long story short, if you want a nice holiday, don't book this resort !

We stayed at Club Tucanas in Playa del Ingles, Gran Canaria in October 2007, This was at one time the best gay resort, what has gone wrong.. it was just terrible, the television did not work and when we asked at the reception, We were told that we should do something more than watch television, the breakfast was awful, we had to pay even when we did not eat it, we were unable to bring our friends back to relax with us around the pool.
The resort is just to expensive for what you get, which is mostly rude un careing staff. We spent our days at Club Mancha just a block away, great place, full of atmospheare, we found other people staying there that once stayed at Tucanas, We do not recomend Tucas anymore, save you money. Oh and the price of drinks are just crazy.

My partner and I returned to Club Tucanes having stayed there before a number of times. We have always enjoyed it because of its location and the beautiful bungalows. However, in 2007 the place was closed for what was advertised as a total refurbishment, something that had been promised for some time and which had started then stopped after enough renovated bungalows were completed for publicity photographs (about 4).

The only visible evidence of the refurbishment was the new bathroom, though even that had problems with water leaking into the main part of the bungalow. The bath had been removed and a shower installed. The bidet was removed and the sink and toilet replaced. The room was also retiled with a new window.

The other noticeable renovation was the flaat screen tv which received no picture because the cable system had never worked properly since it was installed in the summer.

The promised and advertised air conditioning was only evident from a long plastic tube sticking out the wall in the bedroom which we had to stick a cork in to block the sounds of water draining from the bathroom next door.

There were many other complaints but basically, this is advertised and priced as 4 star and is nothing like it. It used to be, but not now. There are other gay bungalow complexes which are cheaper and which offer similar standard of facilities.

Despite all these comments I should point out that the staff, especially Jeremy and Nico, were hardworking and invariably as helpful as they could be. The establishment does not appreciate that if it was not for the staff, they would have many more complaints. Also, the location is ideal and the pool and the private patio areas allow you to spend the day the way that suits you. A sunlonger in the patio would have been a nice touch.

The breakfast which is included in the price is basic but not too bad, though the coffee is awful and the toaster takes forever to toast a slice of bread. These are thingts that we have complained about in the past but nothing has been done.

We had a good holiday despite these complaints.
