Tucanes Gay

Could not believe how poor the standards were. A very tired resort and it shows. The only reason to stay here would be its proximity to the Jumbo Centre. The apartments desperately need bringing up to date. Water from the shower overflows and floods the bathroom unless you put a towel down. Mattresses have no plastic covering ( essential I would have thought in a gay complex). Pool was filthy. Ashtrays around the pool were cut up plastic bottle wrapped round with tin foil and were never emptied. At least 40 cigarette buts in each. When the wind gets up they blow everywhere. On the way to the pool there were 2 used condoms on the footpath which were there for 4 days. I watched the cleaners walk past them in disbelief that they didn't pick them up. Bar closes at 6:00pm. So no atmosphere. One of the barmen bizarrely goose stepped around the pool all day like a prison warden. Walked past all the full ashtrays and seemed oblivious to the fact that people were waiting at the bar. Reception is open for limited hours. In summary the standards are extremely poor in relation to the daily room rate. I would not stay there again.

My partner and I have just returned from a week at this complex and will definately not be returning. Before going on to the negatives, I'll start with some good.
As reception was closed at the time of our arrival, the manager had arranged for a taxi to meet us at the airport who also handed us the keys to the bungalow.
Upon arrival at the complex we were greeted by the barman (not going to mention any names) who was extremely friendly, he asked if we would like any welcome drinks and showed us to the bungalow. This barman was fantastic throughout the stay, so friendly and really made us feel relaxed and welcome, possibly the complexes greatest asset. Los Tucannes is also fantastically located for the Yumbo centre and the seafront / beach.
That's where the good points end.
The bungalow was filthy and crawling with ants, we even saw a couple of cockroaches on the patio, clearly the maid had done the minimum level of cleaning before our arrival.
The bedding was extremely worn and old, the "white" sheets on the beds were so discoloured from not being replaced. The pillows were extremely lumpy and worn out and the bed spreads had suspicios stains and marks on them. The bathroom wasn't much better, towels so thin it was like drying with paper towels, the floor mat, which should have been cream coloured was grey in places, dirty and torn. In the whole week we only had one visit from the maid and all she did was empty the bins. The bedding and towels were never changed. We spoke to some other guests who had been there for 10 days without any cleaning being done!
The poolside is dirty and in desperate need of a good hosing down and mopping, the bottom of the pool was litteraly covered in dirt and rubbish. I saw several cigarette ends in there. We did not see the pool or surrounding area being cleaned once in the entire stay. The hot tub, when not full of people having sex in it, is far too chlorinated (or perhaps something else, not sure). In our first day of being there, my partners trunks were almost completely bleached and he had only been in the hot tub for a short period. All the cuttlery was filthy and barely washed. The crockery was all chipped and dirty, we had to go to the supermarket to by washing up equipment! The door to the bungalow wouldn't lock properly and could be opened easily without a key by one hard pull on the handle, it took a couple of minutes to lock it properly every time.
Just as a foot note, this complex is clearly aimed at the German market, we were one of only two British couples there, everyone else was German. Not a problem for me but not everyones cup of tea.

If you are thinking of staying here, DON'T, please BOOK SOMEWHERE ELSE

We were at the opening and serveral years after the opening guestst at this accomodation.
We see the last years the accomodation is getting worse.
Kitchen is broken, broken or lost kitchen inventory is not replaced.
So lots of items are missing in the kitchen.

We know it is a gay accomodation, but at daytime men are at the pool with hard ones challenging others to have sex, and in the evening when night is falling, it is a cruising area where you can find men having sex in the jaccuzi.
This is really becoming vulgar.

We booked a week at Los Tucanes despite the terrible reviews and we were very pleasantly suprised by the standard of accomodation which was much better than expected. We choose Los Tucanes for the location which is almost opposite the Yumbo centre and two minutes walk to all the action !
We had been warned that the standard of cleaning was poor so arrived armed with J clothes and disinfectant wipes but had no need for them as the bungalow was very clean and was cleaned very well twice during our stay including fresh towels.
The bungalows were basically equipped in the kitchen area but it was adequate for preparing light meals and snacks but we did take our own travel kettle as not provided. There was a television but it wasnt worth watching as only recieved a few very random stations !
The pool area and gardens were very well maintained by the Gardeners who were there each day and the swimming pool and hot tub were clean. In fact one of the few criticisms regarding Los Tucanes was that the Gardeners cut back the palm trees and reduced the shade around the pool area.
There was a bar that had good offers on drinks and John the guy who managed it was helpful and friendly and very good at ensuring that any non residents behaved themselves and left when the bar closed which ensured the complex was quiet during the evening.
We would recommend Los Tucanes to anyone wanting basic but decent accommodation that is minutes to all the night life of the Yumbo centre.

After an awful journey we arrived to find that they had overbooked so we were moved to an inferfior (by far) alternative which was not gay and nothing like we had booked. New accommodation was awful so booked our own alternative. Only plus points: the kind lady who stayed to tell us in person and the fact we got a full refund of our deposit. We will never book with them again and we tell all our friends never to either. They need to act more professionally.

reception only open 09:00 - 14:00 daily, not helpful when you arrive after a delayed flight.Staff friendly, when they are around. Friendly resort, mostly german & English. Very close to Yumbo centre 2-3 minutes walk. Pool is deep enough to dive, although dirty, hot tub which is not heated. bar prices reasonable during "happy hour" bar closes early 6.p.m.
Bungalow o.k. single beds (why?) uncumfortable mattresses & pillows,no english t.v.small kitchenette, o.k. for making sndwich or salad. Close to supermarket.Lots of cats & kittens around.

Arrived on the evening of 28/03/11, caught the bus from the airport about 4 euros, that dropped us by the Yumbo, taxi fare was overpriced around £35. There was no receptionist as it was 2 minutes to 7, but arrived two minutes later after a phone call. We stayed in a bungalow overlooking the pool, a major plus. The rooms were very very clean, new shower room and spotless kitchen. Beds were very comfortable and we had a visit every other day from a cleaner. the pool was cleaned at least twice during the visit and I would recommend this establishment for anyone looking for a bargain break. Very close to the Yumbo and it's attractions. Very relaxed and would certainly choose this establishment for a future holiday. On the minus side we had to wait three days for a kettle we brits like a kettle and the wifi was extra, we didn't bother . we would both rate it 9/10
