“June 2013”
Reviewed June 28, 2013

We decided to book a last minute trip abroad and found the Corona Blanca. The staff were very helpful from the moment we arrived until the time we left. The first apartment we were in was very noisy at night due to the traffic and we were moved to another apartment without any problem. The apartments were basic, but well furnished with all the basic amenities, and very clean. There were plenty of shopping opportunities and restaurants nearby, and access to public transport or cheap taxis close by.
I went on a dolphin sighting trip costing 45 Euros, and this was the biggest disappointment of the holiday. There were no dolphins and, in spite of being assured that it was not a party trip, the focus seemed to be the consumption of lots of beer and wine and the extra activities (hang gliding and jet-skiing which cost another 25 Euros.
Other than that trip it was a brilliant holiday :)

Room Tip: It's in a noisy location so pool view rooms on the higher floors would be better

We holidayed here recently and absolutely hated every minute of it, I will detail each and every part that was not a good experience for me and also the same for the places that were good.

Firstly when we arrived on the island at 1pm it took us about 45 minutes to get from the airport to PDI and then we finally found and arrived in the hotel reception around 1:50pm/2pm. We entered and advised reception that we had a reservation, The man behind the counter was quite rude and asked for our names and passport in a very aggressive manner, We thought OK! guy must be having a bad day. We were then told the rooms weren't ready this was now around 2:15pm but we were offered a room to place our luggage in and then went for some food. We arrived back at the hotel around 3:30pm and finally our room was ready so we went on our way to the room.

When we first entered the property yes it was clean but very dated and this was noticeable straight away, We went back down to reception and asked to move and were advised there was no other free rooms (this was the Thursday we arrived) but we were told to try again over the weekend and they would see what they could do which we thought was nice that they thought of us.

The first night in this hotel was hellish, we were in a room overlooking the Kasbah and main road and there was no let up of noise the entire night, There was no aircon/windows or even a fan anywhere to be found in the apartment, which meant we had to leave the balcony doors ajar in order to let what cool air there was circulate through the apartments, Pacha the nightclub in the Kasbah had music blaring and party goers shouting and screaming until at least 6am when we finally must have dropped off from sheer exhaustion.

On the second day when we woke up we found the kitchen sink, balcony, toilet, bath and just about everywhere else to be covered in cockroaches which had come in during the night, I understand its a hot climate however we have never had problems with cockroaches in any of the other apartments either private or commercial that we have stayed in either in the past or since then. When we told reception about this they said they would get room service to re-spray the room which I don't know if this was done or not as this continued to be a constant problem throughout our stay, we had to block all plug holes etc. when going to bed at night.

Plug sockets etc. in the property were VERY old and dangerous and left us not wanting to use them as anytime we did we could smell electrical burning and sparks coming from them, The light switches all buzzed and were practically hanging off the walls, There was also access to our apartment from the room which served around another 20 apartments which meant we felt very uneasy the whole time we were there and continually checked to make sure the doors were locked, curtains closed etc. so nobody tried to gain entry. These apartments are also advertised for self catering, But this was near impossible to eat or prepare any food in such a small/ unprepared kitchen with very little of anything (pots, plates, cutlery etc.).

We were now at Saturday (3 days in) and again went to reception as we were still having problems with cockroaches and also to see if there was a change of room as we were still getting no/very little sleep due to the noise which never seemed to die down no matter what time of the day it was, We were again told nothing was available, despite people coming and going all the time which seemed strange, but hey we made do and continued to spend as much time away from the apartment as possible.

AVOID THE KASBAH AREA AT NIGHT!!!! - On our first night we popped out to have a look about and see what was going on, we were hounded by illegal street sellers, People touting for us to come into their pub, eatery, club etc., and when we told them no they became very aggressive, pulling at both us us etc., were both quite built men and from Glasgow and not normally intimidated by anything but this was quite frightening at times, when you finally got away from them you were then faced with yet more people selling drugs and again telling us how good their place was and coming right into your personal space and making you feel very uncomfortable, We only passed this place again on one occasion at night and it was exactly the same. I had sent my friend down to BK for some food for me and I watched from the balcony and he was approached constantly by black woman looking to sell themselves and when politely declining they then became very aggressive too.

The same woman were in and out of the hotel at night as well, which means the reception must know this goes on and accept this which isn't good that these people are wandering around the hotel, Just makes you feel very uneasy and not a very pleasant experience at all.

We found this area to be very problematic apart from the restaurant opposite (next to broncemar shopping mall) the broncemar shopping mall and the little ice cream place next door, but if we ventured any further towards the Kasbah area no matter the time we were just harassed so avoid avoid avoid.

We were now on Monday and again asked reception to move rooms as we were still getting no sleep and very loud Irish lot had moved in at each side of us so we were sandwiched between loud noise from each side and also outside enough to drive anyone crazy. But we were told on this occasion to stop asking we were not getting to move. so just decided to stop asking and looked elsewhere. We moved out of our apartments on the Monday evening and moved round to the IFA Buenaventura as we couldn't stand not having anymore sleep and had another 3 days to go. The IFA were very understanding and gave us excellent rates for our last few nights which was fantastic and we finally began to feel we were on holiday.

Regarding the Corona, Forget TV as you have to pay to view and the channels are all German there isn't even a news channel in British, The price they charge you for things like fans is just ridiculous even though you get this back, you would expect a fan that works, But they give you some sad excuse of a fan which works on the lowest speed and does as much good as a chocolate fire guard, Wi-Fi is near impossible to use also and is a complete waste of money, it isn't even fast enough to load simple mobile pages like Facebook or Twitter, I'd recommend if you want to use data while abroad if your phone is unlocked visit Vodafone and they will offer you a prepay tariff giving you unlimited calls, texts and internet in Spain for 20 euros which is excellent. Room service when they do come do not speak a word of English so its very hard to interact with them, and despite having DO NOT DISTURB signs on the door they just walk in willy nilly which means you need to at least make sure you sleep in something (despite the heat) so they don’t get a fright which is an absolute pain.

The only 2 good things about this place are the pool area and the restaurant.

Pool area is kept very clean and tidy (pool could be doing with being heated) but there are plenty of sunbeds no matter what time you go down, although there is the usual Europeans that go out as soon as the birds start tweeting and put their towel down then you don't see them until midday - What I did with that was I kindly took their towel to reception and then used the bed despite there being a towel on it there is signs everywhere that says you cannot reserve beds so they shouldn't be reserving beds :)

The restaurant attached to the hotel (rimmney) is nice for pizza, pasta etc. and quite well priced (plus you get a discount for stopping at the Corona) but I didn't try anything else and we just took our food away so can't say what it's like for eating inside.

Overall if you want to go somewhere get no sleep, get harassed, and find yourself surrounded by rude staff who are clearly only in it for the money then this is the place for you.

Room Tip: Choose another hotel, None of the rooms are in a quiet area, There is no A/C and most of the hotel c...

Booked this hotel as a late deal due to its price mainly. It is like most self catering accommodation in Spanish resorts, it requires a bit of modernisation. The room was clean enough but a bit tatty with badly coloured decor. The beds where quite old looking with newer mattresses that where a bit firm. The shower over the bath is terrible with no pressure & requires you to fill the bath using shower as no bath taps.. Very Strange.. The cleaners do not seem to understand privacy and constantly just breeze into your apartment even when you have put lock on... The best bit about the hotel is the pool area and the small snack bar staffed by the nicest member of staff. If they just spent some euros on the rooms I'm sure they could charge more for the room.. One point avoid the Kasbah shopping centre, the touts are a menace & late at night the african prostitutes make an appearance so head in the opposite direction to some good shops & bars.

Having had a not nice start to the new year my wife and i booked a week here 22nd April 2013.
Plane was half hour early so room not ready when we arrived. We left our bags and returned some time later after several local ice cold largers :). Room was clean but had to leave door open because of stale smoke. The reception staff were polite, friendly and helpful.
Had 1 cock roach but a couple of squirts of bug killer and there were no more. (room was treated again).
Take ear plugs road noise nearly all night and people leaving clubs. (But not as bad as Altinkam, see review). Cleaner Clara was excellent we had clean towels every other day and apartment cleaned.
Pool area good plenty of sun beds. The location is excellent for the bars 5-10 minutes stroll either way so saving on taxis. Restaurant (las pyramids) across road good.
Would definately go back there, but not in high season there did not seem to be air con in apartment and i think more potential for cock roaches and mossies with having to leave windows/doors open.
