“Fine hotel (except one minor thing...)”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 20, 2013

We were there for a week in the end of March. Hotel itself was very good and had lots to offer. Our room was standard, nothing special (a fridge would have been nice though). Lots of entertainment. Food was excellent and lots of varieties.
But then a big but for us: we didn't have all inclusive, only half board. So we had breakfast and dinner. We had a big disagreement with the hotel staff when we had wine and water with our dinner and heard that they are not included in half board and have to pay for them (water also!). The butler came and alleged that it is said in a leaflet we got when we signed in. We disagreed but paid anyhow leaving the money on the table when we left. Wrong done! Should have paid to the cash desk. The butler ran after us shouting that we have to pay!. Imagine that kind of behaviour in front of hundreds of diners for a few euros!
Anyhow we checked what it was said in that brochure we got when we game. There was a headline "All Inclusive Service" and advice for that but nothing for people having half board.
So you can imagine our feelings after that incidence every time we went to eat there. I think we were lurked by the staff!
But anyhow. Besides this incident the hotel is to be recommended.

Went to the Hotel Continental again on the 23/03/13.(same period as Adrian) after going in 2011,dont know what Adrians problem was with the sunbeds we got 6 sunbeds every day for a 2 week stay and did not go to the area until 10.15 hrs every morning,I admit the were all gone by mid day but then people started moving away by 16 00 hrs. leaving some free.Hotel is the best 3 star hotel I have ever stayed in, and the best value for money. The dining room is big and spacious and we never had a problem getting a table for 6 people with fantastic food with an excellent choice.2 years ago after filling in a survey I got a request from the lady manager to interview me so I met her for 10 minutes. After the interview (which was mainly about the artists) she asked me if I had any further comments to make. There were 6 people in our party then two of them ladies who liked a couple of baileys on an evening but you had to pay for these as they were not on the A/I tariff so I asked why they did not reduce the price of drinks not included in the A/I for A/I customers. She took a note of my comments and stated I was not the 1st person to ask this question. This year they have included this suggestion with reduced prices for baileys, martini and many other drinks, but beware written in small print at the bottom of the bar price list it tells you that you have to put money on a card at reception and use this when paying at the bar to get these reductions.Apart from this small Hic:up We had a fantastic holiday with all 3 rooms close together on the 3rd floor. Will defini.tely return again

Room Tip: rooms on south side are quieter

Just back from IFA Continental....had a lovely time. This hotel maybe does need redecorating but that is the only small negative I have to say.. it is very very clean, and maids change towels and clean room every day. Food was 4 star quality and very very nice, always something lovely to eat from breakfast through to dinner... amazing food...would say take a hairdryer.. and a cardigan as was nippy at night, but hey ho was April....this hotel is close to shops, shopping centres and the beach..staff all lovely.. no complaints wotsoever about this hotel.. would go back in a flash as enjoyed a very relaxing week here. Entertainment is the same as all hotel entertainment.. but if you are looking for a bit more lively entertainment a taxi ride about 20 mins take you to all the jazz...OLGA the day time entertainer is fantastic very funny and great to be around for poolside games..I was sad to be going home as really enjoyed this holiday!

This was my second stay at the IFA continental after first visiting in September 2012.
The hotel has since been going over some renovation. (None of this disrupts the holiday)
The rooms are basic but roomy. The Bathrooms are of good quality and clean.
There is carpet throughout and it makes a nice change to floor tiles as in usual holiday rooms. It really feels like home away from home. Rooms are cleaned everyday. Some rooms have a flat screen tv some have an old box tv but each room is gradually being renovated. There is no air conditioning, the best advice I can give you is to hire a fan or try to get a room facing towards the sea for the breeze. 1st floor also gets this breeze.

Pools are cleaned everyday, there is plenty of sunbeds at the poolside.
My only problem with the poolside is the neighbouring hotel Corona Roja which is a horrible eye soar and blocks the sun until 11ish in the morning at the bottom pool.

Sunbed reserving does happen here so if you want a good spot I do recommend getting up for when the pool opens at 8am. Though we never did this pathetic rush for a sunbed we strolled down around 11 and easily got beds.

Food is of good quality and there is plenty of choice for all nationalities and picky eaters. Free ice cream for those on AI is available at lunch time.
The food is the main reason why I returned as I am the pickiest of eaters!
Dinner (evening meal) times men must cover their legs up and not wear vests or go topless.
Though when I went in September as it is hotter the trouser rule is relaxed.

AI starts at 11am and ends at 11pm.
Tropical lager, soft drinks, local wine, and some cocktails are available on AI. Anything else must be purchased at a discount.

Night entertainment is your typical cheesy entertainment. It's the same everywhere you go.
Singers, tributes, parrot shows, acrobatic show, bingo, dancing.
Me and my girlfriend both enjoyed the shows that we went to watch.
The animation team who arrange these acts and also do the daytime entertainment and games work ridiculously hard and seem to work ALL hours to ensure you have a good time though we didn't have much to do with them people seem to enjoy what they provide. Please note that the entertainment doesn't revolve around kids, it is primarily for teens up to pensioners though they may do something for kids if there is enough on site.
The hotel isn't ideal for kids, no kids club no pool toys, lilos of the sort as it has a relaxing atmosphere.

The hotel clientele are mainly Germans, swedes scandinavians etc but don't let it put you off as there is British too.

Checkout is 12pm and both visits I have managed to keep my room longer for a price of €30 but these are of definite limited availability and must be acquired at 8am so get there early.
Both times we have been lucky as the people behind me did not manage to get there room nor did our friends.

The hotel staff from reception to the grounds staff work tirelessly to ensure the hotel is of a great standard.
Overall I rate this hotel an exceptional 3 star. Though this could be a 4 star if it had air conditioning. I would return again if I am to go back to Gran Canaria.

Me and my partent stayed here in September 2012... Ive been on many all inclusive holidays and I have to say this has been the best one! Great value for money. The choice available at meal times was unreal... so much to chose from, I'm quite a fussy eater so it was great to have so much choice! and it all tasted fantastic!

The hotel staff are very friendly and welcoming. The rooms and the general cleanliness of the hotel were spotless. The only downside is that the rooms do not have aircon, but you can hire a fan from reception.

We stayed on the first floor with a roof top terrace which was ideal.

We did stay around th epool a few times and managed to get a sunbed no matter what time it was. No mad rush or arguments to get there first.

The hotel entertainment was a bit of a let down, we only stayed to watch one night as we were always going out to this great friendly bar about 50 meters away fromt he hotel.

We did require a late check out (for 6pm) but were refused due to the hotel being full... there is only one shower room so it took a long time to get ourselves washed and changed to go to the airport.

Overall this is probably the best all inclusive hotel I have stayed in. We both loved it that much that we are going back again at the end of April.

Room Tip: Ask for first floor room with a terrace, theres no noise of traffic from the main road and the only...

October 2011 half term stayed here for 2 and half weeks, really enjoyed the whole experience the gorgeous weather the hotel was close to beach shops pubs just a short walk, the hotel was a big well looked after clean hotel, we were there for all inclusive was spoilt for choice food and drinks really made the holiday. The staff were all extremely helpful and went out there way to help you if you had any problems. Nothing was too much trouble. The only thing I could pick out if I had to would be the evening entertainment wasn't very good only a couple of nights we had some which cause my family to have a few early nights being there with the children would of been nice for them to enjoy but this did not disappoint us we enjoyed our whole stay was very sad to leave by the end highly recommend it all

Room Tip: The sea facing rooms lovely I stayed here October !
