“Great hotel”
Reviewed May 22, 2012

Just spent a week here, on my own. Fab hotel, polite helpful staff and spotless...they even cleaned the pooll from the inside!! The entertainment around the pool was great fun...as it was meant to be!! Flora and the great guy were so funny and really worked hard to involve everyone in the actibities. Breakfast had everything you could want and more. Only complaint was they would not give free cold water if you were not all inclusive..even from the tap!! Shame as it was soooo hot. Will def go back, thanks evryone.

Room Tip: had 7th floor...fab views across the sea.

We went as party of two and only booked this holiday a month before we were due to go; we had a look at the reviews before hand and for the all inclusive deal we got it was great.

Hotel -

Hotel is not a long drive from the airport just took some time to drop everyone else off as we were the last stop on the bus transfer but this gave us time to look around the resort from the bus.
Hotel is a little dated in the bedrooms and such, lobby is very nice as is the pool area (not that we really used it), restaurant is adequate and plenty of space. The bedroom was a twin room which was good for us as we were two female friends; they were very clean as was the bathroom. Clean towels everyday if you wish and new bedding everyday also. Nice little balcony also with a lovely sea view from the third floor. You can hear people walking past at a night time from both outside and inside the corridors, but this would only affect you if you are a light sleeper.

You will find that the area is mainly Spanish, English and Dutch, but most of the members of staff know the different languages. Staff were always very friendly and always said hola whenever they saw you, the restaurant staff were always busy and kept on their feet and always got a gracias from us.

Food was ok, though I am quite picky so there was a lot I didn’t like but there was plenty of a selection to find something every day to eat. Liked that I could just get up and get my drink whenever I needed and didn’t have to wait. Though as a typical British person I did miss a good cup of tea! (There ones were not very good...)
Don’t even bother with the TV unless you just want to watch world news. They said that there were English, Spanish and Dutch programs on but they were all either Spanish or Dutch.

Location -

Hotel is in a great location once you know where to walk to find everything. Beach is right in front of you and down some steps (well lots of steps actually! The ramp was our best friend!) The Maspalomas beach is quite quiet and small but very nice for a relaxing sunbathe. The livelier beach is about a 20min walk along the front which is also very nice, but we preferred the quite.

Plenty of shops nearby as with restaurants and bars, Cheers was a nice little bar a short walk from the hotel. Go there three times and you’ll get a free ride in a Limo around the Playa area on Wednesday and Fridays, we did it and were the only ones in as the larger groups went earlier! Quite a few Irish bars with nice live music and about a 20min walk to the main centre with the main bar area, we went one time and let’s just say the alcohol flows like water. Just don’t make the same mistake we did and went on the sat night as it was the Spanish night and we stuck out like a sore thumb!

Excursions –

Would recommend a day boat ride out to see the dolphins and the whales! There’s a nice man with a stand just at the top of the steps to the beach with a trip on a catamaran, we paid 60Euros for the both of us. This included the transport to and from the harbour at Puerto Rrico, the boat tirp, all inclusive food and drink and whilst we stopped to dip in the sea a free banana ride for those who wished to have ago. Very nice day out, Great for sunbathing to!!

We also went for a camel ride, cost about 7Euros(One way) in taxi to the area and the only 12Euros for the half an hour trip around the sand dunes! Which I must say is a MUST see! Also it is very hot so be careful, but does also have a lovely beach. (Though watch out for the random men sunbathing nude in the dunes whilst having your camel ride....that’s one sight I did not go to see...)

All in all a nice relaxing holiday for a last min decision and a decent deal. Thanks!

we had a very relaxing holiday would recommend it to anyone, yes we were in what i thought was a German area but we had no problems plenty of sun loungers to go round, it was gay pride but again we had no bother, rooms a bit dated but very clean, food loads of choice and something for everyone no matter what time of the day, the only fly in the ointment was having to get own drinks could have been a barmaid by the end of the week i was pouring lager perfectly, would definitely return.

Room Tip: try not to be above the night door very noisy around 6 am with people coming in from the clubs

After last years disasterous holiday at the Corona Roja we decided on the Continental after visiting friends there last year and couldn't be more impressed. The hotel was spotless, staff friendly, pool area excellent and the food was great. We went all inclusive....a first for me and would definitely recommend it, there was masses of food to choose from and if you are willing to give 'foreign' food a try (German, Spanish etc) then you will love it. All the food was cooked beautifully and the crockery, restaurant & serving areas were spotlessly clean. Although they were doing work in the children's pool area the noise was minimal and didn't spoil our 'sunbathing'.
We stayed on the first floor and the rooms were spacious and again spotlessly clean, the maids did a great job cleaning the rooms everyday. The hotel is improving its facilities floor by floor, from the top and rooms on higher floors have flat screen tvs and hair dryers, but be warned there aren't hair dryers on the floors that are yet to be improved.
All the staff smiled & said 'ola' whenever they saw you.
We had a small leak in our bathroom and reported it to reception, they sent a maintenance man within 5 minutes and rectified the problem.

Just back from a very relaxing 10 night (4-14 May) stay at the IFA Intercontinental.

This property really makes you feel welcome! The cleanliness for a 3 star is exceptional! Rooms are a little dated tho serviced every day and at a time which suits the guest, an added bonus. All staff were attitude free with the majority speaking at least 3 languages.

Having picked the all inclusive option we were not left hungry! lots of choice if a little similar... The free cocktails were a little weak, mind the bar staff were more than happy to supply an extra shot if required. A few patrons were a little miffed at having to pour their own Beer, not an issue for us at all.

The Entertainment programe was pretty top notch! Daytime included Boules,Darts,Tai Chi & Zumba to name a few & the Evenings offered some pretty good live performances! with the odd game of bingo thrown in too! & Not forgetting the staff who went out of their way to make sure you were included!.

It's more suited to younger familys & the mature. Not ideal for the younger groups (18-30 ish) as it's a good 10 min walk to the Kasbah centre & another 10 to the Yumbo. However, Taxi's are no more than 5 euros.

Would i stay here again? Yes!

A highlight of the 'All Inclusive' 11 am buffet is most definately the carrot, cabbage and sweet corn sandwiches (that's it) and don't be late for breakfast or any meal at this hotel, as you will note the main course starts being removed and the coffee machine is turned off 5 minutes before the set meal times have ended! Also watch out if your a late arrival (in the evening) on an 'All Inclusive Deal' as the meal prepared for you is a salad that contains tuna and rice, which is left unrefridgerated for hours at 24 deg C. The poolside 'All Inclusive Bar' has a stated opening time of Noon-6pm but you will find it closed by 5:40pm (so don't expect coffee after this time) in fact don't expect vodka in vodka drinks at the poolside (all inclusive) bar either, during the daytime. The balcony lights are on a timer and it's lights out by 11:15pm. We had ant's all over our room on the third floor the whole holiday. The coffee from the machine in the restaurant tastes somewhat clinical (like mouthwash at the dentist). Your drinks will often be collected from the restaurant table when returning to the buffet for your next course, a waiter even went to collect our plate whilst we were eating one evening. Watch out also for sharp edges on the crockery, there was many chipped cups in the restaurant. Don't expect to do any diving in the pool as all the pool's are just waist deep and watch you don't slip on the smooth tiles around the pool with wet feet. You will feel a little like sardines in a tin on a sun lounger around the pool as they are packed in tight to accomodate the guests. The stainless ashtrays at the poolside bar would be of an interest to a geologist, in a study of ash to rock formation in the bottom of them. You might not want to stay out late on a Saturday evening as the cleaner came in early on Sunday apologised for waking us then proceeded to the bathroom to empty the bin and clean the toilet and bath without asking, which made the apology a bit pointless. The service on the 'All Inclusive' evening bar can at times come across as lack lustre unless your a paying guest (time and money if you get what we mean). The wifi which can be bought for one hour/day/week will only allow one device to 'logon' at a time and will often log you out after a few minutes of your laptop/phone being idle. The TV is a small portable and only has BBC World News (in English). Apart from this everything else is fine.

Room Tip: A high number of each floor eg. 130, 230,330,430 upwards to 152,252,352,452 will put you in a room w...
