I thought this place was brilliant, totally perfect if you want a value holiday. I was on the 4th floor - it was quiet - it was 2 bedrooms and had a sofa bed, plenty for up to 5 people. It was spacious, and while you won't fit 5 on the balcony the sun arrived in the morning until the evening. Clean - yes it was. The cleaner did a good job. But for as long as I remembered I was in self-catered, it's not hard to clean up after you cook.

Perfectly located for the Yumbo centre, a good walk to the beach but in Gran Canaria weather, who should care. The reception staff were also incredibly helpful, even if somewhat surprised and unable to meet my need for 23 stamps! Parking right out the front, for as long as there is Space. And a very friendly lady working at the Pool-side cafe. She got a little excited when four lads rocked up, she ramped up the camp music, poured us some sangria as the rain came down, and thoroughly entertained us.

The price was good and overall there was nothing I could complain about...oh maybe, it was a pity I saw no lizards or cockroaches - now that makes a Canaries holiday!

Room Tip: Try to get in Barbados 1 as it gets the sun in the morning, unless you like the sunset, then go for Barbados 2

Stayed here a few times.. Although not the best of the basic apartments in playa they are all 2 bedroom apartments and is in a good location. On uk booking sites (sorting cheapest first) most apartments listed, such as the Corona Roja and the Guinia (which is basic but good), are on the Casbar side of town. This is great if you have the need for prostitutes and drug dealers on your home but not so good when returning from the Yumbo or prefer not to feel threatened. My advice would be pick your hotel carefully so you can cut around behind the Casbar or choose somewhere near the Barbados.
My mate and I return to the Barbados even though it is a bit of a dump as we have never felt threatened or unsafe on the way home. I guess with your hotel choice you need to consider you may not 'pull' so you maybe walking home and a bit drunk on your own. So if you want a two bedroom apartment and you are going out in the Yumbo why not Barbados. The Igazu opposite is the best as the two bedrooms are the same size but its not listed on any sites!

Room Tip: upper floor

In my last reveiw of Barbados I said I would stay again, and I have. No loud music this time, BUT now there is a Barking Dog running around the place, cocking its leg when it feels like it and this around the Pool Bar, NOT NICE when you are sunbathing to have this animal running free , yapping and sniffing , as dogs do, all around your bags etc, The very nice lady in the Pool Bar looked on totally bemused. i really dont mind dogs, but Not, when I am trying to relax on Holiday, then you can hear it barking inside an apartment, which due to the construction of the building, echos, over and over.I have had aanimals around me on other holidays, whilst sitting at a street Cafe, but never in a Hotel Complex ....This is really a strange place, There are many other places offering much better standards than this , close by and often for a lesser price. I have nothng against Dogs, I have one of my own at home, apparently this dog lives in the Building !!!! Wont be coming back.

Room Tip: Stay away from Block Ii unless you like barking Dogs

Having read some of the feedback I do wonder what people are expecting, that said what I wanted was a clean apartment with comfortable, although basic facilities.

Sadly that was where my expectations were failed, I don't feel the manager spends anytime checking on the standards and housekeeping spend even less. The first room (221) we turned the bathroom light on and it started to pour water out. The second room (407) had a hole in the door next to the lock, needless to say I didn't even bother entering. Back to reception for a third time and was allocated room 411, this was quite tired and showing URGENT need of refurbishment. All the furniture was showing cigarette burns, as were the sheets and the kitchen hob was only a 2 ring facility. The microwave we discovered later in the week was in a bad state of disrepair and so avoided using it.

Housekeeping changed our towels frequently and were very pleasant, I just felt under 7 minutes to clean a 2 bed apartment is insufficient. When you take the quote from Hotel Inspector "it should take 20 minutes per bedroom" that's a bedroom and a bathroom, so how do they think standards can be upheld with 2 extra rooms and 13 minutes less? I'd rather the only did 3 times a week and did a proper job than the absolute minimum the currently do, though obviously I'd far rather they cleaned thoroughly as they should be doing.

As this room faced the street there was inevitable noise, though the crooner in one of the restaurants underneath really should be shot for crimes against music - the likes not even x factor could show!

There are 2 pools, one of them with the cafe bar / music, the other quiet - use of which seemed to vary depending on how people were feeling or how heavy the night out. Yes the water is cool but then when you're hot from the sun the chance to cool off is very welcome.

There are 2 lifts that go to the basement, which is where reception is located and one of which is still being repaired. There are 4 lifts in total, the green lifts by the stairs to the pools are also for public use and so reception can be reached by exiting to the street and walking down the stairs to reception.

Safety deposit boxes are available for 12 euro per week plus a 6 euro deposit. They are sufficiently spacious for 2 laptops, iPad, 2 phones, cameras, travel docs etc. Wifi is available 6 euro per day or 20 euro for a week, be aware you can only use 1 device per wifi code and so this may not be the most economical option depending on your mobile tariff.

For food shopping the smaller Spar / Hiperdino supermarkets are close by and spread around the resort. However a 15 min walk to the Mercardo, Lidl, Euro Spar or large Hiperdino will get you much more choice with fresh food and better prices.

Transfers to / from the airport are approx 35 euro in a taxi or the bus is 3.50 per person (route 66 or 90) and stops within a 2 min walk to the apartments.

Overall it was a good holiday but I think the lack of attention from management and housekeeping have cost this property heavily and I would definitely consider trying other properties in the future as a result.

Room Tip: Avoid 407 and 221 and ask for a room away from the street.
