Santa Clara Bungalows
Ranked #43 of 134 Hotels in Playa del Ingles
Reviewed August 26, 2012

Travelled August 2012 for 2 weeks as a single parent with an 8 year old, following some recent reviews I did travel with an open mind and upon arrival I was fairly please with what I saw, check in was swift and easy directions to our room saw us passed both of the pools, I was pleased to notice that there were plenty of available sunbeds in the middle of the day. We arrived at our bungalow and again I was fairly happy, although I had requested a room near the pool when booking I ended up with a roadside one, but the security of the high walls & fences was quite reasuring. Our bungalow was very basic and in desperate need of TLC but it was only ever intended as a place to sleep and shower (I don't do holiday cooking), the beds were comfy, they appeared to have memory foam matresses which only added to the very hot nights though.

It soon bacame apparent that this complex was residential, with only the residents having access to the many gates onto the street, holiday makers had to use the front entrance which was a pain as we were only 50 yeards from the nearest supermarket, but had a 5 min walk due to being restricted to using the front enterance. I even witnessed people 'locals' gaining access through these gates brining towels etc, making it obvious they were not even residents to the complex but having keys to enter it, though when we noticed someone using the gate by our bungalow we did make a dash for it and hold it open and found most of the residents around us were happy to do this although we didnt try to get back in using this method.

The pools were nice, a decent size and depth, we stuck to one left of reception as in the first few days it seemed that the residents seem to go to the other, which was fine for us, until Saturday & Sunday when on mass families from other parts of the Island appeared, I have never known such rude people, my particular favourites were the free porn show as young couples 2 to a sunbed if you get my drift covered themselves with a towel and didn't come up for air, not saying there was sex, but it sure wasn't innocent get a room!!! and the 2 little girls walking a yorkshire terrier to the back of my sunbed and letting it take a crap, really?!? and yes I did move after a few choice words!!! and then the security guard whos vocabulary consisted of no lilos, no balls, no jumping, no diving!!! This is what really got to me as the 'locals' got away with everything, it was a disgrace and very upsetting for my son who just wanted to enjoy his holiday :(

It wasnt until our 2nd week that I atempted to have our room changed, the Rep Jay came to see me one day around the pool and I just happened to mention that I was having trouble sleeping due to noise from the road (it was constant traffic all night), I wasn't looking for a room change, but Jay suggested as it was change over day that if I was prepared to move he could definately get me new room, I wasn't over bothered but just to see if I could get a better room I agreed, he came back within a few minutes with a key and off we went to a bungalow that was completely surrounded by locals, just the noise they were making was too much, let alone the smell of fish being cooked, we both decided this was not a good move, he said there were more rooms and he would get back to me the following day. Unfortunately the following day all the 'empty' rooms had been "overbooked by the Spanish" instead I hired a fan that drowned out the road and cooled us down at the same time :)

The only direct complaint I can make about the Santa Clara is that the cleaning service to the bungalows was rubbish in 2 weeks we had our beds changed once and clean towels maybe 3 times.

I have made a formal complaint to Thomas Cook sugesting they should drop this accommodation or change the way they described it in their brochure as I would never have booked it knowing there was such a high number of residents. I don't normally a complain but feel Thomas Cook have left out some essential information about this complex and missold this holiday :(

Jay the rep was great though very sympathetic and made every attempt to do what ever he could to improve situations :)

Ooops I appear to have gone on a bit, hope it helps tho. Oh also I wouldn't go back to Playa del Ingles either far too big of a resort too spread out, very dated and a bit tacky :(

Room Tip: Book a different complex :(

Just returned from a 7 day holiday with my 16 year old daughter. After reading the reviews before we left I was very concerned as to what was awaiting us. When booking this holiday I booked 3* self catering accommodation. This is by no means 3*. Once we arrived I was shocked to see 1Key symbol above the door, I asked the rep if this was a 3* complex and she replied NO! I tried to stay optimistic so after receiving our keys and a map to where our bungalow was we proceeded to it. There is very little lighting at night and the majority of the bungalows are resident occupied. We saw 6 cats and 4 dogs running round. We eventually found our bungalow and was horrified when we opened the door. I was no bigger than a large bedroom. The bungalow was in disrepair, broken tiles, broken cupboards, no air con, dirty sofa, rusty bath. The back door lead out to a small patch of grass which was just below the main street level and whilst there were metal railings on top of the wall this did not make us feel safe. Added to that was the fact the back door had 1/4"gap right the way the door and you could actually see the light outside. I actually felt frightened for our safety. That night we had to sleep with 2 stools pushed against the back door and the sofa in front of the patio door. I also slept with a knife under my pillow! The following day I saw our rep, explained the situation and told him straight we could not stay there. To my surprise he told me that the complex was only 1* and he had dealt with numerous similar complaints. We had to wait until 4pm that day before we could move and I had to pay an extra 50 euros to 'upgrade'. What annoyed me was the fact if I had booked the apartments with Thomas Cook where we were moved to they would have been £100 cheaper!!!! I am making a complaint to Thomas Cook for mis-selling this holiday.

I will say that the Santa Clara did have two decent sized pools. There is a lovely pool bar there which is reasonably priced for drinks and snacks. If you are booking a cheap 1* holiday then this is ideal if you are not expecting much.

Just returned from a week here at Santa Clara bungalows with wife, daughter and 6mnth old grandaughter - no probs - lovely pools - clean bungalows - maid twice during week - super location just back from the main resort - 10 mins to beach - quiet at night - large S'market 5 mins round corner behind b'lows.
Would recommend Greek Village restaurant just outside the bungalows,Guarapo(round the back near the S'market) and Mamma Mias in the hellish Yumbo centre(excellent proper Italian restaurant!)
Would definitely go again.

Room Tip: All ok as they are all bungalows not apartments - each has a private patio area with direct access f...

5 girls (Aged 22-23) arrived at the bungalows at around 12AM, we was locked out due to the reception being closed and the gates locked! We was sat on the steps to the reception for a good 35 minutes until we saw an english lady who was stopping there to get the Security Guard to let us in! Once checked in the we was shown to out bungalow, 5 of us was stopping in 1 bungalow. When we arrived at the bungalow we was horrified due to a stray cat in the bedroom!! Also the fridge did not work and smelt as though something had died in it. The room was far too small for 5 girls and there was limited seating area. The bed sheets were stained and had cobwebs and spiders in the bedrooms. The room looked as though it hadn't been cleaned for weeks! Due to the time we had no choice but to stay in the bungalow for the night but had contacted Thomas cook to have a rep out to see us the next morning.
The next morning we saw the rep and showed him the disgrace that we was stopping in. He was quite shocked as to where we was stopping and also how much we had paid to stop there. He explained that this was a residential area and was only rated a 1*. We book our holiday through Thomas Cook who miss sold the holiday as a 3* also the photos are nothing like the place that we stopped, looking at the photos the place doesn't look too bad. Luckly we did manage to get moved to a 2* in Purto Rico which was better then the bungalows but was still not what we paid for. Our holiday was spoilt by Thomas Cook and we will be taking it further.

Room Tip: Do not book through Thomas Cook, this is rated a 1* and a total rip off

5 girls (aged 22) staying in one apartment (room 108A), this was a lovely complex which was within excellent walking distance from the Kasbah and the Yumbo center. fair enough there was a few things which cud have been tidied up but the rooms were always well kept, the maid came everyday except one and was ideal. however i think they should invest in air con as that was the only downfall, but there is ceiling fans which are pretty much no use nor ornament.
The greek resteraunt next door is beautiful and well worth a visit and there is a couple of nice english pubs behind the hotel for breakfasts etc....
All in all great holiday except for the air con
